Monitoring of an emergency intervention team

The goal of this study was to identify threats to the physical and psychological balance of professional staff members and its causes. Based on the observation that the team members are working under stressful conditions, the need was felt to be proactive in the prevention of staff members' physical, cognitive and psychological exhaustion ("burn-out"). The documentation of team members' assessment of their working environment was felt to be an essential part of the strategy to be able to address adequately the concerns occasionally expressed verbally. Some of these techniques, and particularly thermal ablation (endovenous laser, radiofrequency) are now recommended as first-line therapy in the latest international guidelines. This is because of less post-operative pain, a shorter leave from employment and similar or lower recurrence rate. Endovenous techniques allow safer and more efficient treatment of certain particular conditions : small saphenous vein, ulcers, and recurrent varicose veins. In addition to clinical history and examination, a duplex sonography of deep and superficial veins, performed by an angiologist, is the most important exam in order to determine proper indication and best treatment strategy for each patient

Microbial community metabolic concurrence involved in toluene degradation: effect of oxygen availability on catabolic gene expression of aerobic and anaerobic toluene degrading bacteria

Bakterien sind in ihrer natürlichen Umgebung permanent mit variierenden Sauerstoffgradienten, wie sie z.B. in Grundwasserleitern, mikrobiellen Matten und im Wurzelraum von Pflanzen, der Rhizosphäre, existieren, konfrontiert. Schadstoffabbauende Mikroorganismen haben zudem die Fähigkeiten entwickelt, sich mit Hilfe adaptiver Mechanismen und der Regulation ihrer katabolen Gene an die sich permanent ändernden Umweltbedingungen kontaminierter Standorte anzupassen. In dieser Arbeit wurde die relative Expression kataboler Gene unter oszillierenden Sauerstoffkonzentrationen von zwei Schadstoff-abbauenden Bakterien, dem aeroben Toluol-Abbauer, Pseudomonas putida mt-2 (der das TOL Plasmid pWW0 enthält), und dem anaeroben Toluol-Abbauer, Thauera aromatica K172 untersucht. Die katabolen Gene waren dabei xylM und xylE für P. putida, sowie bssA und bcrA für T. aromatica

Les valeurs de l'école et du scoutisme

Ce travail traite de deux éléments qui me sont chers : le scoutisme et l’école. Il évoque dans un premier temps l’historique et le cadre dans lequel s’inscrit le scoutisme de même que l’actualité et la structure de l’école. Il est ensuite question des valeurs qui sont véhiculées par le mouvement scout ainsi que des valeurs de l’école et de la manière dont elles sont exploitées avec et pour les enfants. Des valeurs communes ont ensuite été dégagées dans le but de voir si l’une des deux entités précitées permet aux enfants du cycle 2 de mieux vivre et intégrer ces valeurs. La méthodologie a été menée sous forme de questionnaires et les données ont été récoltées auprès des enfants, premiers concernés par la question de cette recherche. Les résultats ont ensuite été analysés afin de dégager des tendances et d’évoquer diverses pistes de réponses et d’activités pouvant être mises en place et permettant d’améliorer le rapport aux valeurs des enfants du cycle 2. Pour conclure, ce travail a été fait sur la base d’un intérêt personnel très présent et dans le but de pouvoir utiliser certains éléments dans ma future pratique du métier d’enseignante

Schutz gegen industrielle Schadstoffe durch den ABC-Schutzfilter 74

This paper reports protection performance data of the NBC-canister (NBC-SF 74) against some important industrial agents under various experimental conditions (humidity, challenge concentration). The principles of construction and function of the NBC-SF 74 are explained, and a description of the measuring apparatus is given. The protection capabilities against different compounds are discussed, and for 25 substances the evaluated data listed. For challenge concentrations below 0.5 vol.-% and agents with b.p. > 65°, sufficient protection levels are observed. The protection levels against industrial agents with low b.p. are lower and must be carefully evaluated as a function of the prevailing environment conditions
