Spreading of a density front in the K\"untz-Lavall\'ee model of porous media

We analyze spreading of a density front in the K\"untz-Lavall\'ee model of porous media. In contrast to previous studies, where unusual properties of the front were attributed to anomalous diffusion, we find that the front evolution is controlled by normal diffusion and hydrodynamic flow, the latter being responsible for apparent enhancement of the front propagation speed. Our finding suggests that results of several recent experiments on porous media, where anomalous diffusion was reported based on the density front propagation analysis, should be reconsidered to verify the role of a fluid flow

We study and transcribe the post-mortem inventory of Jacint Garí, born in Vic, who was the pastor of Maçanet de Cabrenys between 1723 and 1738. A very interesting document from a cultural perspective, because of the notable library of theology and preaching books the pastor owned, mostly by authors studied at Jesuit seminaries

Study of Inelastic Behavior of Reticular Structures of Steel Bars - Phenomena of Plastification

Technological advancement has increasingly helped solve engineering problems, but the designer who does not seek knowledge of the physical behavior of materials and mathematical techniques to solve them runs the risk of not being able to interpret the results provided by structural software. Computational techniques do not provide the exact solution of engineering problems, they provide approximations to the intervals where the solution of the differential equations governing the mechanics of the continuum are inserted. The engineer who does not know how to idealize the engineering problem in his mind will not be able to model the problem in the computer. One of the most intriguing and peculiar engineering problems is the plastification phenomenon of metallic objects

Regulation (EC) No 1371/2007 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 23 October 2007, on Rail Passengers' Rights and Obligations, contains the basic EU rules regarding the protection of passengers in rail transport, both on a domestic and an international leve/. Similarly to what happens in carriage by air (Regulation No 2027/1997, as amended by Regulation No 889/2002) and sea (Regulation No 392/2009), the Raíl Passenger Regulation refers -in its Articles 4, 11 and 15- to an international Convention, the Uniform Rules concerning the Contract of International Carriage of Passengers by Rail (Appendíx A to the 1999 COTIF Convention). However, it introduces sorne additional rights that do not a/ways fit easily into the framework designed by the Rules, especially as regards the liability of the carrier in case of de/ay, missed connections and cancellation. The only judgment of the European Court off ustice on this issue (Case C-509/11, ÓBB-Personenverkehr) addresses only part of the problem, in particular, the compensation of the ticket price in case of delay. Furthermore, Regulation (EC) No 1371/2007 does not prohibí! the existence of national measures that improve the passengers' protection, so domestic law has to be taken into account, too. Tn Spain, the relevant legislation was adopted in 2004 and has not been amended after the Regulation carne into force, so sorne of its provisions are clearly inconsistent with the acquis communautaire. The present article seeks to describe the exact content of the passengers' rights under Regulation (EC) No 1371/2007 and to identify those domestic rules that cannot be applied any more since they are contrary to European Union law and should therefore be repealed or amended.

    Get PDF
This proposal stems from the results and conclusions of two researches carried out in the academic year 2010/2011. Conclusions point out the need to create new materials that use music in the English classroom from an interdisciplinary perspective. After reaching the conclusion on the need to create new materials that use music as a fundamental pillar in the English classroom of Kindergarten and Primary school, setting clear learning objectives, we present a series of musical activities based on English folk songs and rhymes to develop English learning in Kindergarten and Primary education

Regulation (EC) No 1371/2007 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of 23 October 2007, on Rail Passengers’ Rights and Obligations, contains the basic EU rules regarding the protection of passengers in rail transport, both on a domestic and an international level. Simi-larly to what happens in carriage by air (Regulation No 2027/1997, as amended by Regulation No 889/2002) and sea (Regulation No 392/2009), the Rail Passenger Regulation refers —in its Articles 4, 11 and 15— to an international Convention, the Uniform Rules concerning the Con-tract of International Carriage of Passengers by Rail (Appendix A to the 1999 COTIF Conven-tion). The paper seeks to describe the exact content of the passengers’ rights under Regulation No 1371/2007 and to identify those domestic rules that cannot be applied any more since they are contrary to Euro-pean Union law and should therefore be repealed.

A qualitative analysis about the use of music in the English textbooks of Primary Education

    Get PDF
Music has a great potential as a facilitator vehicle to accelerate the process of learning English as a foreign language. This article is a brief overview of the history of linguistics from the traditional Grammar-Translation method to the present methods like CLIL and Student Centered Learning. We investigated different methods of recognized educators and researchers who established parallels between music and language, and we concrete in which aspects music can help to facilitate accelerated learning of English by providing a holistic education. Finally we elaborated a qualitative analysis of textbooks of English 3rd grade of Primary Education of three different publishers, using a template for recording data in which we observe how music is used as a resource and it is not given all the importance it may have to establish a meaningful and lasting learning.peerReviewe

Social competence in higher education questionnaire (CCSES): Revision and psychometric analysis

    Get PDF
Over the past decades several researches have addressed the social competence from the university setting by its importance for education and society (Hidalgo and Abarca, 1990; Johnson et al., 1991; Oberst et al., 2009). Social factors play an outstanding role in the learning process of higher education students as they are being professionally prepared to actively participate and contribute in a changing society (Del Prette et al., 1999; Marín and León, 2001). According to Schoon (2009), an increasing globalization and use of technologies have led to a series of socio-historical changes were social competence have been affected by the emergence of new values and lifestyles. Therefore, the development of social competence has become one of the main objectives of contemporary education systems and institutions (Gedviliene, 2012). Universities are providing indicators for generic competences to evidence their effectiveness in terms of students’ learning outcomes (Xie et al., 2014). In fact, the European Commission (2005) considers social competence an essential and one of the most important precursors of prosperity and social well-being in its Member States
