    Software Design Guidelines for Usability

    Get PDF
For years, the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) community has crafted usability guidelines that clearly define what
characteristics a software system should have in order to be easy to use. However, in the Software Engineering (SE)
community keep falling short of successfully incorporating these recommendations into software projects. From a SE
perspective, the process of incorporating usability features into software is not always straightforward, as a large number
of these features have heavy implications in the underlying software architecture. For example, successfully including an
“undo” feature in an application requires the design and implementation of many complex interrelated data structures and
functionalities. Our work is focused upon providing developers with a set of software design patterns to assist them in the
process of designing more usable software. This would contribute to the proper inclusion of specific usability features
with high impact on the software design. Preliminary validation data show that usage of the guidelines also has positive
effects on development time and overall software design quality

This reality no longer an iceberg still many cases are unknown. Old age is accompanied by chronic diseases (in most cases, incapacitating), and because of that the elders must go assiduously to nursing consultation in Primary Health Care. For this reason, it is necessary that nurses, who have the opportunity to assess the situation of the elderly personally count with the tools, skills and abilities necessary to detect such situations. The aim of this study is to determine the existing methods by which primary care nurses in Madrid detect elder abuse not institutionalize

Measurement of the B+ meson lifetime

Treballs Finals de Grau de Física, Facultat de Física, Universitat de Barcelona, Curs: 2017, Tutors: Lluís Garrido Beltrán, Carla Marín BenitoThis research aims to measure the mean lifetime for the B+ meson, a composition of a [up quark] and a [bottom antiquark] quark, by using experimental data obtained from LHCb. Making use of Monte Carlo (MC) generated data and simulated data, which includes the effects of a detector, we can study the effects over the data in order to obtain the physical parameters underlying the process. In order to find the mean lifetime [tau] of the B+ meson we will proceed by two different ways, and we will make use of the simulated Monte Carlo data to prove the validity of both methodologies

Jarraian, metodologia horren eraginkortasuna neurtzen da, autoebaluazio galdetegi bat, ikaslearen gaitasun sozialak analizatzen dituen beste galdetegi bat nahiz ebaluazio errubrika bat erabiliz. Lortutako emaitzek ikasleak gaitasun sozialen garapenean eta talde klasean adierazten duen inklusio mailan hobetzen duela baieztatzen dute, baita erabilitako metodologia egokia dela haren behar zehatzei erantzuteko ere.[EN] The following senior research aims to analyze the effectiveness and success achieved by the Cooperative Learning methodology in order to provide a response to those students dealing with the Asperger Syndrome. Along this research, the effectiveness of the methodology is measures by an auto evaluative questionnaire, a survey regarding the social abilities of the student, and an assesment rubric. The results show how the students´social abilities are developed by the methodology mentioned before, as well as its capacity to adapt to the classroom. All of these results prove that the methodology is able to provide the needed response for these students

The joint influence of competition and mutualism on the biodiversity of mutualistic ecosystems

    Get PDF
Relations among species in ecosystems can be represented by complex networks where both negative (competition) and positive (mutualism) interactions are concurrently present. Recently, it has been shown that many ecosystems can be cast into mutualistic networks, and that nestedness reduces effective inter-species competition, thus facilitating mutually beneficial interactions and increasing the number of coexisting species or the biodiversity. However, current approaches neglect the structure of inter-species competition by adopting a mean-field perspective that does not deal with competitive interactions properly. Here, we introduce a framework based on the concept of multilayer networks, which naturally accounts for both mutualism and competition. Hence, we abandon the mean field hypothesis and show, through a dynamical population model and numerical simulations, that there is an intricate relation between competition and mutualism. Specifically, we show that when all interactions are taken into account, mutualism does not have the same consequences on the evolution of specialist and generalist species. This leads to a non-trivial profile of biodiversity in the parameter space of competition and mutualism. Our findings emphasize how the simultaneous consideration of positive and negative interactions can contribute to our understanding of the delicate trade-offs between topology and biodiversity in ecosystems and call for a reconsideration of previous findings in theoretical ecology, as they may affect the structural and dynamical stability of mutualistic systems.Comment: 11 pages.
