L'évolution du constructivisme turingien : de la logique du mental à la morphogenèse de l'idée

National audienceThe two main aspects involved in the notion of construction, i.e. the structural and the genetic, are scrutinized through Turing's intellectual evolution. These two aspects are defined by Turing thanks to two notions which co-evolve: that of form on the one hand and that of mental act on the other. During the first structural – logico-combinatorial in nature – period of his career, the notion of form is interpreted by Turing in a formal sense and the notion of mental act is defined as a finitist behaviour that can be modelled by rules of re-writing. In a second stage, linked to the discovery of organization in complex living phenomena, the notion of form is interpreted as a stabilisation phase in emerging processes and the notion of mental act as the production of forms. In describing the conditions by which forms can stabilize, Turing was trying to describe at the same time the conditions by which a mental act can be produced: from this point of view, conceptual and personal aspects intermingled.On décrit, à partir de l'évolution intellectuelle de Turing, les deux grandes tendances caractéristiques de la notion de construction, structurale et génétique. Ces deux tendances ont été précisées et définies par Turing à l'aide de deux notions évoluant ensemble : la notion de forme d'une part et la notion d'acte mental de l'autre. Durant la première étape structurale – de nature logico-combinatoire – Turing a interprété la notion de forme au sens de formel et la notion d'acte mental au sens de comportement finitiste modélisable sous la forme de règles de réécriture. Dans une seconde étape, liée à la découverte du problème de l'organisation des phénomènes complexes dans le vivant, Turing a interprété la notion de forme au sens de stabilisation d'un processus d'émergence et la notion d'acte mental au sens de production des formes. Artificial intelligence, defined either as the “science of the general and effective conditions of intelligence” or as “the science of interactive artefacts”, inherit this history but goes a step further thanks to computing modelisation : from this point of view, a new relation between objectivity and empiricity is made possible. In reinterpreting the notion of experience, AI gives a new meaning to the idea of thought experiment. This idea is made possible thanks to two notions : that of writing procedure and that of procedural unconscious.La notion d'expérience est riche d'une longue histoire. L'intelligence artificielle, dont on a défini au préalable les deux grandes tendances (“science des conditions générales et effectives de l'intelligence” et “science des artefacts interactifs”), hérite de ce contexte mais en innovant du point de vue de la modélisation informatique : celle-ci instaure un nouveau rapport entre l'objectivité et l'empiricité. Économie symbolique et phylogenèse du langage

RésuméOn propose un scénario théorique de l’émergence et de l’évolution du langage bien différent des scénarios néodarwiniens aujourd’hui répandus. Le principe adopté est celui d’une synergie nécessaire entre plusieurs formes et activités symboliques. En s’inspirant notamment de l’analogie de la monnaie et du langage, vus comme des « équivalents généraux », on introduit le modèle simplifié d’une économie symbolique, qui vise à figurer le dégagement progressif de formes sémiotiques jouant un rôle pivot dans la différenciation de valeurs, de rôles, de groupes sociaux. On cherche ainsi à rendre compte de l’origine et de l’intrication des dimensions pratiques et fictives propres à toute interaction sociale, la ritualisation des conduites allant de pair avec la formation de genres ou de jeux sémiotiques (notamment narratifs).Symbolic Economies and Phylogenesis of LanguageWe suggest a prospective scenario of emergence and evolution of language which radically differs from the dominant neo-darwinian stance. The guiding principle is that of a synergy between various symbolic forms and activities. Starting with the analogy between money and language, viewed as « general equivalents », we define a model of Symbolic Economies which features the gradual unfolding of semiotic forms mediating the differentiation of social groups, roles and values. The aim is to account for the shared origin of practical and fictional dimensions of social life, where the ritualisation of behaviour goes hand in hand with the development of semiotic games and genres (especially of narrative kind)

Large-Scale Oxidation of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes in Fluidized Bed from Ozone-Containing Gas Mixtures

100 g of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) tangled in balls of 388 microns in Sauter diameter were treated per run in a pre-industrial scale fluidized bed reactor, using ozone-based gaseous mixtures at ambient temperature. The influence of ozone concentration and of the addition of water vapour was studied, for treatment durations between 1 h and 20 h. The process behavior was analyzed in terms of fluidized bed pressure drop and temperature profile. The nature and amount of the grafted oxygen based functions were analyzed, as the structural modifications created. An oxidation mechanism in two steps was evidenced, showing the grafting of hydroxyl, phenol and ether functions in a first step and then of lactone, quinone, carbonyl and carboxylic groups. A moderate etching of the MWCNT outer walls was observed. The amount of grafted functions and of structural defects increased with treatment duration and was highly exalted by the presence of water vapour. All the results obtained showed that the oxidation was uniform on the whole powder of the bed and from the outer part to the center of the balls, probably thanks to the high fluidization quality maintained all along the ozone treatment

Traditionnellement depuis Aristote (même si l’expression est de Marx), c’est la monnaie qui joue ce rôle : l’équivalent général permet à des entités hétérogènes d’avoir une commune mesure dans l’échange. En devenant marchandises, des entités hétérogènes deviennent ainsi monétairement comparable..
