Diversity and Copepods’composition off Moroccan Atlantic Coast (Northwest Africa): A Review
This overview sums up the results of main investigations and knowledge about zooplankton off Moroccan Atlantic coast. Copepods diversity, spatial distribution, seasonal variability and hydrology off Moroccan Atlantic coast are given. A compilation of taxonomic list of copepods’ species found therein was established from published studies, they accounted for 210. Diversity and richness varied strongly between seasons, an onshore offshore gradient was observed as well. Species composition differed from northern to southern Moroccan Atlantic coast although most dominant species off Morocco’s coasts were Calanus helgolandicus, Paracalanus parvus, Acartia clausi and Corycaeus typicus. In addition, the largest number of species was found in upwelling regions. A synthesis study was established in order to spatial distribution of copepods along Moroccan Atlantic coast. The Factorial Correspondence Analysis of copepod species characterizing the most important sectors has shown different patterns of copepods distribution across Moroccan Atlantic coast; three main areas were clearly segregated according to their taxonomic composition (Northern, Central and Southern Atlantic)
Serratia Fonticola microbe presented as a community-acquired urinary tract infection (UTI): a case report
Background: The case we are presenting is about one of the rare pathogens, Serratia Fonticola (SF) that may cause urinary tract infection.
Case Presentation: A 58 years-old female presented with dysuria, suprapubic pain, frequency of micturition, and change in urine color. The patient was afebrile on physical examination; however, the urine culture was positive to SF as the sole isolate. The patient received levofloxacin tables (750 mg) once a day for 5 days along with supportive instructions to improve hygiene. On follow-up, she was free of symptoms and the repeated urine culture was negative.
Conclusion: This case can be considered globally the third that diagnosed in the urine culture of the asymptomatic patient.

Application Géomatique Pour La Cartographie De La Vulnérabilité Environnementale Engendrée Par Les Déchets Miniers De La Mine Ferrifere De Nador (Nord-est du Maroc)
The field work has been done to study the impact of acid mine drainage on the environment. Space pollution measurement was carried out on the basis of interesting physicochemical and geomatic analyses of water and solid region outcrops. The study showed that the phenomenon under study represents an alarming problem that is attributed to the presence of huge stocks of mining waste sulphur, directly exposed to a Mediterranean climate and thus remains capable of accelerating the oxidation process. The classification of zones according to the levels of fragility is entailed by the necessity to opt for a model that is compatible with different intrinsic and extrinsic parameters. The study was concluded by the superposition of six thematic layers charting the environmental vulnerability map by the GIS. The findings demonstrated that most vulnerable zones near the points of exploitation are very oxidized in bottomlands or in places well apart from carbonate facies (pH <3
Propolis restored adiponectin level in type 2 diabetes through PPARγ activation
AbstractAdipose tissue regulates insulin sensitivity via the circulating adipocytokines, leptin, resistin and adiponectin. Hypoadiponectinemia contributes to the development of obesity and related disorders such as diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we investigated the effects of Brazilian propolis on adiponectin levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), the mechanism of signaling pathway was explored as well. T2DM was induced in male Wistar rats using high fat diet and low dose of streptozotocin (STZ, 35 mg/kg, i.p.). Propolis was administered by oral tubes. Peroxisome proliferator activated receptor gamma (PPARγ) levels in sub abdominal adipose tissue, serum levels of adiponectin, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and insulin were detected by Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). Malondialdehyde (MDA) and reduced glutathione (GSH) in sub abdominal adipose tissue, fasting plasma glucose, plasma triglycerides and total cholesterol levels were measured by colorimetric method. Results showed that Brazilian propolis ameliorated hypoadiponectinemia in T2DM rats and relieved high glucose-induced adiponectin decrease. The signaling pathway analysis indicated that PPARγ regulation was involved. In conclusion, Brazilian propolis could have beneficial effect in T2DM by increasing tissue PPARγ levels, restoring serum adiponectin levels, enhancing insulin sensitivity and subsequently, attenuating elevated glucose level
Semi-Parametric Method to Estimate the Time-to-Failure Distribution and its Percentiles for Simple Linear Degradation Model
Most reliability studies obtained reliability information by using degradation measurements over time, which contains useful data about the product reliability. Parametric methods like the maximum likelihood (ML) estimator and the ordinary least square (OLS) estimator are used widely to estimate the time-to-failure distribution and its percentiles. In this article, we estimate the time-to-failure distribution and its percentiles by using a semi-parametric estimator that assumes the parametric function to have a half- normal distribution or an exponential distribution. The performance of the semi-parametric estimator is compared via simulation study with the ML and OLS estimators by using the mean square error and length of the 95% bootstrap confidence interval as the basis criteria of the comparison. An application to real data is given. In general, if there are assumptions on the random effect parameter, the ML estimator is the best; otherwise the kernel semi- parametric estimator with half-normal distribution is the best
Učinak higijenskih praksi klanja na kontaminaciju trupova brojlera bakterijom roda Salmonella u Biskri, Alžir
Poultry meat is the primary meat consumed in Algeria, surpassing sheep and beef in the 1980s. However, this product is often at risk of being contaminated by Salmonella. Salmonellosis is a foodborne
disease with tens of millions of human cases estimated to occur worldwide, and resulting in more than a hundred thousand deaths per year. According to the World Health Organization, salmonellosis in humans is generally contracted through the consumption of contaminated food of animal origin, including poultry. The main objective of this study was to investigate the risk factors associated with Salmonella contamination of broiler carcasses at the slaughterhouse. Sixty fresh chicken carcasses from six slaughterhouses were subjected to bacteriological analysis in accordance with AFNOR (French Standardization Association) standards. Statistical analyses showed an impact of the hygienic quality of the slaughter process on the likelihood of Salmonella
contamination of poultry meat. A correlation (r=0.84) was found between hygienic slaughter practices and Salmonella contamination of chicken carcasses. The average level of TAMB (total aerobic mesophilic bacteria) was high in carcasses positive for Salmonella (t-test = 0.019). Not washing live bird transport crates was associated with an increasing risk of Salmonella contamination carcasses (odds ratio/OR = 28). The mean level of TAMB was higher in the presence of the following risk factors: old and small slaughterhouse, not washing live bird transport crates, manual bleeding, scalding type (soaking), non-renewal of scalding water, no disinfectant in water, no ventilation drying, no sanitary facilities. The identification of risk factors responsible for bacterial contamination of broiler meat is essential to determine the most effective methods of prevention.
Chapter Phytoplankton assemblage Characterization along the Mediterranean coast of Morocco during autumn
The present study aimed to assess the composition, abundance and diversity of phytoplankton assemblage along the Moroccan Mediterranean Coast. Phytoplankton samples were collected in October 2018 at 48 stations from M’diq bay in the West to Saïdia in the East. 92 taxa have been inventoried, belonging to five groups. Diatoms dominate qualitatively and quantitatively (85.5%), followed by dinoflagellates (12%). Phytoplanktonic diversity and abundance was pronounced in the western part of Moroccan Mediterranean Sea, especially (from Jebha to M’diq) because of the influence of the Atlantic flow

PANCREATIC METASTASIS OF RENAL ADENOCARCINOMA.
Pancreatic metastasis of kidney cancer is very rare, accounting for less than 0.25 to 3% of cases. The detection of metastasis is often fortuitous in surveillance after renal cancer resection. We report a case of pancreatic metastases of renal adenocarcinoma. This observation emphasizes the advantage of the radiological assessment for early diagnosis, which allows to discuss a curative surgical act which seems to be the only treatment able to prolong the survival of the patient
Abundance and structure of copepod communities along the Atlantic coast of southern Morocco
Zooplankton composition and the spatial and temporal abundance distribution of copepods were examined on the southern Atlantic coast of Morocco. In 1998, 31 stations during March and 30 stations during July were sampled on the continent shelf between Cape Blanc (21° O’N) and Cape Boujdor (26°30’N). Holoplankton dominated the zooplankton assemblages. Copepods represented 86% of the zooplankton in March and 73% in July. Herbivorous species were the main components of the 78 identified copepod species (60 species in March and 49 in July). Four species were recorded for the first time in this area: Calanus hyperboreus, Scaphocalanus brevicornis, S. medius, and Heterocope saliens. Both zooplankton abundance and diversity were related to changes in ecological parameters resulting from upwelling currents. The uplift of cold water enriched superficial water layers with nutrients and induced strong primary production upon which zooplankton depend. This study discusses the environmental features that influence plankton resources and the relationship of plankton production to the pelagic fisheries off northwest Africa
