    Vitamin D Status: UV-exposure, Obesity and Cancer

    Sun is the main vitamin D source for humans. Sun exposure during the summer may provide large amounts of vitamin D3, which is stored in the fat tissue and released during the winter. Serum 25(OH)D levels > 80 nmol/L at the end of the summer are considered necessary in order to avoid vitamin D deficiency during the winter. However, it is not clear how much sun exposure is needed to achieve this concentration. In this study we simulated a Norwegian summer by using commercially available tanning equipment. We found that moderate exposures given during 5-7 weeks may raise serum 25(OH)D concentrations from typical winter values to typical summer values. A UV dose equal to a whole body sun exposure of 5 - 10 MED at sunny summer midday increased serum 25(OH)D by 15-23 nmol/L. The increase was dependent on the initial vitamin D status: persons with the lowest baseline 25(OH)D concentrations got the largest increase. However, for persons with vitamin D deficiency (25(OH)D Body composition and BMI are important predictors of vitamin D status. Our earlier investigations suggested that serum 25(OH)D levels decrease proportionally with increasing BMI. The key mechanism behind is possibly increased sequestration of fat-soluble vitamin D in a large volume of fat tissue. However, other factors, such as low sun exposure and inadequate vitamin D intake, may also contribute to the low vitamin D status in overweight and obese persons. In this study we have investigated the impact of excess body weight on serum 1,25(OH)2D concentrations. According to our results high BMI and adiposity in adults were associated with decreased serum 1,25(OH)2D. Serum 25(OH)D was the strongest predictor of 1,25(OH)2D values. A decrease in 25(OH)D by 1 nmol/L was associated with a decrease in 1,25(OH)2D concentrations by 0.4 pmol/L (P Low vitamin D status as a consequence of low sun exposure and/or high BMI may play a role in cancer development and prognosis. Our calculations suggest that a low vitamin D status may explain at least 20% of the cancer risk attributable to high BMI. It also seems that the contribution of low 25(OH)D to the increased cancer risk with increasing BMI may be different for different cancer types being highest for colorectal and breast cancers. A panel of 25 world leaders in vitamin D research recommended that the serum 25(OH)D concentrations should be at least 75 nmol/L (30 ng/ml) in order to provide optimal health outcomes. These values may be achieved by moderate UV exposure or by high vitamin D intake. The dose of vitamin D supplementation and UV exposure should be adjusted according to BMI

    "We do right, we don't do nice" : pragmatizing markers in rhetoric of political leaders in Russia and Germany - a critical comparative analysis, 2005-2015

    The phenomenon of pragmatic decisions is widely used by current political leaders to prove their foreign policy actions as the right ones, as illustrated by the discourses of German and Russian officials. But still the ‘pragmatic’ explanation does not result in the same decisions in these two states. This contradiction suggests that pragmatism is nothing but a rhetorical tool, which might be used differently. This thesis focuses on the rhetorical tools by means of which leaders of Russia and Germany pragmatize their foreign policy choices. Also the thesis is aimed to figure out the differences in the ways of pragmatization applied by Russian and German actors. The Aristotelian doctrine of practical syllogism, which is considered here as mechanism of pragmatization, discloses these rhetoric tools that are called ‘pragmatizing markers’. The rhetorical analysis revealed five groups of these markers: profit, right and thought, institutionalism, humanism, and ideal speech situation (ISS). Moreover, it showed that the conditions under which the decision is made (cooperation; different point of view; conflict) may affect the choice of pragmatizing markers. Comparative analysis showed that Russian and German actors have some common spaces as well as difference in applying the pragmatizing markers. Both use all five groups of the markers to some stance. The cases of conflict and different points of view urge the actors to resort to the model of ISS, while the case of cooperation is the most favorable for the marker of profit. In the conditions of conflict, the use of pragmatizing marker of right and thought significantly increases in both countries. As for the differences, Russian political leaders make their rhetoric more variable in cases of cooperation and different point of views and German ones does it in case of conflict. In addition, Russian actors tend to pragmatize with the help of institutional value, while German representatives prefer the value of humanism, which can be traced through the cases of conflict and differing points of view

    Efficiency of using dump trucks BELAZ-75180

    A comparative analysis of operational characteristics when using a different type of chassis of BELAZ-75180 mining dump trucks was performed. It is shown that the choice of the type and means of mining transport is determined by several factors, and, first of all, the characteristics of the cargo being transported, the distance of transportation, speed of flights, and the leverage for the given period. The power of vehicles and the performance of a mining dump truck depend on the scale of work (cargo turnover). The dependence of energy consumption during transport work on a quarry on the average size of pieces of rock is disclosed. The analysis of the dependence of the number of backup dump trucks on their number operating in a specific period is given. As a result of the analysis of operational characteristics, it was found that the chassis type of the BELAZ-75180 mining dump truck significantly affects its performance. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd

    Analysis of the operational characteristics of the main units of BelAZ vehicles in a coal mine

    A comparative analysis of the operational characteristics of the main components of BELAZ mining vehicles has been carried out. It is shown that the choice of type and means of career transport is determined by a number of factors and, first of all, by the characteristics of the transported cargo, the distance of transportation, the scale of work and the pace of their development. The power of vehicles depends on the scale of work (freight turnover), and the pace of mining operations determines the requirements for the operational reliability of career vehicles. The dependence of the dump truck failure parameter on the service life is disclosed. The analysis of the state of metal structures of structural elements of the dump truck BELAZ-7530 based on the method of non-destructive testing is given. As a result of the analysis of thermal imaging and measurements of the thickness of the walls of the motor housing, it was established that the amount of wear depends on the heating temperature of the metal structures. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd

    AbstractIt is shown that with the increase in capacity and weight of excavators their specific indices of functioning remain practically at the same level corresponding to the energy consumption value (available power) for excavators of each type (electromechanical or hydraulic). That value depends on the type of operational equipment, the ratio between linear and weight parameters and other factors. New layout of the operational equipment is suggested, featuring an internal closure of workloads within its operating element.     The article presents a description of the case of a rare abnormality of the thyroid gland in 5 year old girl with a volume lesion of the neck. Ultrasound examination of the patient from surgical unit with referral diagnosis 'a cyst of the neck' identified an accessory lobe of thyroid gland, atypically localized, of the size compared with one of normal thyroid gland. The size of the thyroid gland in typical localization was decreased, levels of thyroid hormones were normal. For the purpose of verification of malformation Doppler effect and color mapping were applied. Diagnose was confirmed by biopsy results

    Durability increase of mining dump trucks through the use of protective coatings of the body

    The share of trucking in the total cost of open-cast mining is 50% or more. Therefore, reducing transportation costs is one of the tasks of increasing the technical and economic indicators of an open development method, which is an urgent task. Performance dump truck is estimated either by the volume of transported rock mass (in cubic meter or tons), or the value of cargo turnover (ton-kilometers). However, these indicators do not take into account the percentage of adhering rock that is transported uselessly and reduces productivity. The paper proposes methods for protecting the body of a mining dump truck from clay rocks adhering. Detail the method of protection with the help of vibration using metal structure is considered. A mathematical model of the stress-strain state of a two-layer beam is proposed. The dependence of the stress in the body on the stiffness of the elastic supports and impact energy when using a rubber lining is shown. © 2020 IOP Publishing Ltd. All rights reserved
