Fractional integral equations tell us how to impose initial values in fractional differential equations
The goal of this work is to discuss how should we impose initial values in
fractional problems to ensure that they have exactly one smooth unique
solution, where smooth simply means that the solution lies in a certain
suitable space of fractional differentiability. For the sake of simplicity and
to show the fundamental ideas behind our arguments, we will do this only for
the Riemann-Liouville case of linear equations with constant coefficients.
In a few words, we study the natural consequences in fractional differential
equations of the already existing results involving existence and uniqueness
for their integral analogues, in terms of the Riemann-Liouville fractional
integral. Under this scope, we derive naturally several interesting results.
One of the most astonishing ones is that a fractional differential equation of
order with Riemann-Liouville derivatives can demand, in principle,
less initial values than to have a uniquely determined
solution. In fact, if not all the involved derivatives have the same decimal
part, the amount of conditions is given by
where is the highest order in the differential equation such that
is not an integer

New methods for the study and resolution of equations involving fractional operators and their applications
This main topic of research in this dissertation is Mathematical Analysis and, more specifically, Fractional Calculus. We provide new techniques to study, and sometimes solve, fractional integral equations and fractional differential equations.
The first two chapters of this thesis provide the introductory notions to be used in the rest of the research.
In the third chapter, we provide an original algorithm to find the unique solution of a linear fractional integral equation of constant coefficients.
In the fourth chapter, we apply the previously obtained results to fractional differential equations. In particular, we see their implications in the problem of imposing natural initial conditions in such a way that the existence and uniqueness of solution is guaranteed.
In the fifth chapter, we develop some applications based on the aforementioned ideas.
In the sixth chapter, we discuss conclusions and possible lines of future work
An extension of the Cartwright-McMullen theorem in fractional calculus for the smooth Stieltjes case
In 1976, Donald Cartwright and John McMullen characterized axiomatically the
Riemann-Liouvile fractional integral in a paper that was published in 1978. The
motivation for their work was to answer affirmatively to a conjecture stated by
J. S. Lew a few years before, in 1972. Essentially, their ``Cartwright-McMullen
theorem in fractional calculus'' proved that the Riemann-Liouville fractional
integral is the only continuous extension of the usual integral operator to
positive real orders, in such a way that the Index Law holds. In this paper, we
propose an analogous result for the uniqueness of the extension of the
Stieltjes integral operator, in the case of a smooth integrator.Comment: 7 page
A Postcolonial Study of Aboriginal Identity in Tara June Winch’s The Yield
[Abstract] This study aspires to explore the issue of Aboriginal identity in Tara June Winch’s novel The Yield (2019) from a postcolonial point of view. In order to fulfill this main goal, I will focus on four major aspects connected to Aboriginality that are particularly relevant in the novel: language and culture, history and traditions, the importance of returning home in Aboriginal literature and, last but not least, Indigenous peoples and their relationship with the land. The methodologies used to carry out this paper were a previous close reading analysis of The Yield, researching about Aboriginal culture, language and struggles, and studying the history of Australian Aboriginal communities in relation to their identities. After years of being subjected to a colonial empire, the Aboriginal peoples of Australia are still suffering the consequences of a system fueled by white supremacy and imperialism. Stories like The Yield, contribute to Australia’s First Nations being validated and accepted.Traballo fin de grao (UDC.FIL). Inglés: estudios lingüÃsticos y literarios. Curso 2020/202
NF-κB/IKK Activation by Small Extracellular Vesicles Within the SASP
[Abstract] Cellular senescence plays an important role in different biological and pathological conditions. Senescent cells communicate with their microenvironment through a plethora of soluble factors, metalloproteases and extracellular vesicles (EV). Although much is known about the role that soluble factors play in senescence, the downstream signalling pathways activated by EV in senescence is unknown. To address this, we performed a small molecule inhibitor screen and have identified the IκB kinases IKKε, IKKα and IKKβ as essential for senescence mediated by EV (evSASP). By using pharmacological inhibitors of IKKε, IKKα and IKKβ, in addition to CRISPR/Cas9 targeting their respective genes, we find these pathways are important in mediating senescence. In addition, we find that senescence activation is dependent on canonical NF-κB transcription factors where siRNA targeting p65 prevent senescence. Importantly, these IKK pathways are also relevant to ageing as knockout of IKKA, IKKB and IKKE avoid the activation of senescence. Altogether, these findings open a new potential line of investigation in the field of senescence by targeting the negative effects of the evSASP independent of particular EV contents.AO’s lab is supported by BBSRC (BB/P000223/1) and Bart’s Charity Grant (MGU0497). Constant Sign Solutions to Linear Fractional Integral Problems and Their Applications to the Monotone Method
This manuscript provides some results concerning the sign of solutions for linear fractional
integral equations with constant coefficients. This information is later used to prove the existence of
solutions to some nonlinear problems, together with underestimates and overestimates. These results
are obtained after applying suitable modifications in the classical process of monotone iterative
techniques. Finally, we provide an example where we prove the existence of solutions, and we
compute some estimates. This research was partially supported by grant numbers MTM2016-75140-P (AEI/FEDER, UE) and
