A multi-scenario analysis to improve layout efficiency

Logistics costs represent a large portion of overall costs. Companies in peripheral countries need to be additionally careful in streamlining them if they want to maintain their competitivity. This research is focussed on a plant belonging to an aerospace component supplier, and its purpose is to reduce the layout costs in one of its warehouses. Data was collected using documentation, archival records, informal interviews, and direct and participant observation. From 66 initial scenarios based on layout decisions, storage assignment policies and alternative picking routes, 44 were compared as these are the ones that fit the company reality. Findings showed that travelling distance could be reduced when the allocation of items in shelves follow their picking frequency and when Class-based storage with return routing policies is used. A castanha-do-brasil é uma espécie nativa da Amazônia, com ampla distribuição, sendo uma das mais nobres e valiosas da floresta, devido ao seu aproveitamento tanto em termos madereiros como também de seus frutos. Participando na dieta alimentar em várias regiões do Amazonas. Avaliação das características químicas do vinho de açaí comercializado em Macapá e Santana (AP).

A bebida proveniente do fruto do açaizeiro, conhecido como vinho, representa item básico na alimentação da população amapaense, estimando-se um consumo médio diário de 27 mil a 34 mil L/dia somente na capital Macapá. Este trabalho teve por objetivo analisar alguns componentes químicos do vinho de açaí, comercializado em quatro pontos distintos dos principais municípios consumidores, de Macapá e Santana (AP), e originados de diferentes locais de coleta dos frutos, com intervalos de tempo entre coleta e processamento distintos. As amostras foram transportadas ao Laboratório de Alimentos da Embrapa Amapá, em recipientes estéreis, onde realizaram-se as avaliações do teor de umidade, sendo a matéria seca determinada por diferença; pH, extrato etéreo (Iipídeos) e da proteína bruta. As amostras de vinho de açaí adquiridas enquadraram-se nos padrões físico-químicos disponíveis na literatura, apresentando-se como alimento altamente calórico com média de 7,1% de lipídeos, mas não podendo ser considerada uma fonte proteica única, pois apresentou teor de 2,1% de proteína bruta, devendo ser ingerida com alimentação complementar

On the impact of covariance functions in multi-objective Bayesian optimization for engineering design

However, the impact of covariance function, which is an important part of multi-objective BO, is rarely studied in the context of engineering optimization. We aim to shed light on this issue by performing numerical experiments on engineering design optimization problems, primarily low-fidelity problems so that we are able to statistically evaluate the performance of BO methods with various covariance functions. In this paper, we performed the study using a set of subsonic airfoil optimization cases as benchmark problems. Expected hypervolume improvement was used as the acquisition function to enrich the experimental design. Results show that the choice of the covariance function give a notable impact on the performance of multi-objective BO. In this regard, Kriging models with Matern-3/2 is the most robust method in terms of the diversity and convergence to the Pareto front that can handle problems with various complexities.Natural Environment Research Council (NERC

Stellar equilibrium configurations of white dwarfs in the f(R,T)f(R,T) gravity

In this work we investigate the equilibrium configurations of white dwarfs in a modified gravity theory, na\-mely, $f(R,T)$ gravity, for which $R$ and $T$ stand for the Ricci scalar and trace of the energy-momentum tensor, respectively. Considering the functional form $f(R,T)=R+2\lambda T$, with $\lambda$ being a constant, we obtain the hydrostatic equilibrium equation for the theory. Some physical properties of white dwarfs, such as: mass, radius, pressure and energy density, as well as their dependence on the parameter $\lambda$ are derived. More massive and larger white dwarfs are found for negative values of $\lambda$ when it decreases. The equilibrium configurations predict a maximum mass limit for white dwarfs slightly above the Chandrasekhar limit, with larger radii and lower central densities when compared to standard gravity outcomes. The most important effect of $f(R,T)$ theory for massive white dwarfs is the increase of the radius in comparison with GR and also $f(R)$ results. By comparing our results with some observational data of massive white dwarfs we also find a lower limit for $\lambda$, namely, $\lambda >- 3\times 10^{-4}$.Comment: To be published in EPJ

Nefrite tubulointersticial associada à mesalazina

Inflammatory bowel disease and its various treatments may affect the kidney in several ways tubulointersticial nephritis is a rare but serious complication of longer-term mesalazine use. There are few cases reported in the literature. We report the first two cases of mesalazine-induced tubulointersticial nephritis, recently diagnosed in our department. The first one refers to a patient with ulcerous colitis and the second one to a patient with Crohn’s disease. Then the authors present a review of literature about the renal involvement in the inflammatory bowel disease. New cases of mesalazine nephrotoxicity should be reported to allow more accurate incidence estimation of this serious adverse effect. Routine monitoring of renal function is simple, inexpensive and allows an early diagnosis of this complicationA doença inflamatória intestinal e as terapêuticas que lhe estão associadas podem afetar o rim de várias formas. A nefrite tubulointersticial é uma complicação rara, mas potencialmente grave inerente à terapêutica com mesalazina. Há alguns casos descritos na literatura. Os autores descrevem os dois primeiros casos de nefrite tubulointersticial associados ao uso de mesalazina, recentemente diagnosticados no nosso Serviço; um deles num doente com colite ulcerosa, outro num doente com doença de Crohn. Apresentam uma revisão da literatura sobre o atingimento renal na doença inflamatória intestinal. Os casos de nefrotoxicidade associada à mesalazina devem continuar a ser descritos para permitir estabelecer uma incidência mais precisa desde efeito adverso. A monitorização da função renal durante o tratamento é simples, barata e pode ajudar a diagnosticar precocemente esta complicaçã
