A Dicationic Calix 4 Pyrrole Derivative and Its Use for the Selective Recognition and Displacement-Based Sensing of Pyrophosphate

    Get PDF
A new bis-pyridinium calix[4] pyrrole derivative is reported. This system forms a non-fluorescent complex upon exposure to the chromenolate anion. The resulting supramolecular ensemble binds the pyrophosphate anion with high affinity (K-a (2.55 +/- 0.12) x 10(7) M-1) in acetonitrile. It exhibits sensitive "turn-on" fluorescence when exposed to tetrabutylammonium pyrophosphate, and does so in preference to other anions, including the fluoride and phosphate anions.NRF 2009-0087013BK21 programNational Science Foundation NSF CHE-1057904Chemistr

FOOT ARCH STRAIN OF EXCESSIVE PRONATORS DURING TWO-LEGS AND ONELEG STANDING AND WALKING

    Get PDF
INTRODUCTION: The movement of plantar fascia under the foot has been characterized by foot arch strain in vitro (Kogler, Solomonidis, & Paul, 1995). The characteristics of the foot arch strain under the static and dynamic conditions in excessive pronators are not well known. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the foot arch strain during two legs, one-leg standing and walking in excessive pronation

Time reduction effect of the enhanced TACT method for high-rise residential buildings

The finish work on high-rise residential buildings is performed simultaneously with mechanical and electrical construction work, which results in frequent work interference and delay. This significantly hinders efficient schedule management. Critical Path Method (CPM) is inefficient when applied to high-rise residential building projects in which work is repeatedly carried out for each floor. Line-of-Balance (LOB) is widely used for its effectiveness in managing repetitive work. LOB was developed into TACT and eTACT (enhanced-TACT) to combine heterogeneous works continuously. In particular, the eTACT schedule management method has an advantage in that it is capable of systematically connecting detailed construction, mechanical and electrical construction projects using a work planning template. This study evaluates the time reduction effect of the eTACT method for a high-rise residential building. A comparative analysis of data on 102 cases of non-applied projects and 44 cases of projects using the eTACT method over a period of 10 years is presented to verify its effectiveness. The result shows that finish work time was reduced by 25% or about 53 days on average. First published online: 18 Dec 201

Picture Quality and Sound Quality of OLED TVs

Unlike the past when cathode-ray tube (CRT) dominated display industry, many different types of flat panel displays (FPDs) are now leading the industry. Of these, organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display has recently become a next-generation display since this display is recognised as having advantages over other competing technologies in picture quality and form factor. With major attributes of picture quality considered, a series of evaluations based on objective measures was performed with an OLED TV compared to an LCD TV. OLED TV outperformed LCD TV 100 times in black, 20 times in colour contrast, 30% in dynamic range coverage, 50 times in local contrast and 20 times in viewing angle. In addition, sound quality of the OLED TV was assessed using both objective and subjective evaluation methods compared to conventional TV speakers since OLED panel speaker technology was recently commercialised. The OLED panel speaker showed better performance both in objective and subjective methods

Lymphocyte-monocyte ratio at day 14 of first cisplatin-doxorubicin chemotherapy is associated with treatment outcome of pediatric patients with localized osteosarcoma

Purpose We aimed to determine the prognostic significance of lymphocyte counts and the lymphocytemonocyte ratio (LMR) in pediatric patients with osteosarcoma. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 27 pediatric patients with localized extremity osteosarcoma, treated at the Korea Cancer Center Hospital between May 2002 and March 2016. Leukocyte counts and LMR before treatment and on day 14 (LMR14) of the first cisplatin-doxorubicin chemotherapy round were evaluated. Patients were dichotomized according to the median value of these parameters, and survival rates were compared. Results The median age of the 27 patients was 9.9 years (range, 3.2–14.1 years) and tumor sites were: distal femur (n=14), proximal humerus (n=7), proximal tibia (n=2), proximal fibula (n=2), and elsewhere (n=2). Patients were followed up on for a median of 76.4 months (range, 4.5–174.7 months), and 5-year overall (OS) and event-free survival (EFS) rates were 66.0%±9.8% and 60.9%±9.7%, respectively. Patients with a higher pretreatment lymphocyte count (≥2,320/μL) had better OS (90.9% vs. 46.2%, P=0.04) and EFS (83.9% vs. 38.5%, P=0.02). However, the day 14 lymphocyte count was not associated with survival. While no survival difference was observed between patients grouped according to pretreatment LMR (median value, 6.3), patients with a higher LMR14 (≥5) fared better than those with lower LMR14 (5-year OS: 83.3% vs. 46.3%, P=0.04). Conclusion Pretreatment lymphocyte count and LMR during chemotherapy had prognostic significance in pediatric osteosarcoma patients. Further studies involving larger cohorts are necessary to validate our findings

Improvement of Lifetime Using Transition Metal-Incorporated SAPO-34 Catalysts in Conversion of Dimethyl Ether to Light Olefins

Transition metal (Mn, Fe, or Ni) incorporated SAPO-34 (MeAPSO-34) nanocatalysts were synthesized using a hydrothermal method to improve the catalytic lifetime in the conversion of dimethyl ether to light olefins (DTO). The structures of the synthesized catalysts were characterized using several methods including XRD, SEM, BET, 29Si-MAS NMR, and NH3-TPD techniques. Although the structure of the MeAPSO-34 catalysts was similar to that of the SAPO-34 catalyst, the amount of weak acid sites in all MeAPSO-34 catalysts was markedly increased and accompanied by differences in crystallinity and structural arrangement. The amount of weak acid sites decreased in the following order: NiAPSO-34 > FeAPSO-34 > MnAPSO-34 > SAPO-34 catalyst. The MeAPSO-34 catalysts, when used in the DTO reaction, maintained DME conversion above 90% for a longer time than the SAPO-34 catalyst, while also maintaining the total selectivity above 95% for light olefins. In addition, the NiAPSO-34 catalyst showed the longest catalytic lifetime; the lifetime was extended approximately 2-fold relative to the SAPO-34 catalyst. Therefore, the increase in the catalytic lifetime is related to the amount of weak acidic sites, and these sites are increased in number by incorporating transition metals into the SAPO-34 catalyst
