An Emergent-Based Approach for Deriving Business/IT Alignment Models and Measures through IS Enactment

    Get PDF
Business/IT Alignment is an information systems research field with a long existence and a high number of researchers and represents a central thinking direction over the entanglement between business and information systems. It aims to achieve a paradigm, on which there is a high degree of visibility and availability of information about the information systems sociomateriality. Complex-networks constitute an approach to the study of the emergent properties of complex-systems that strongly focuses and relies on models and measures, through which the system interdependence is built. Several characteristics of complex-networks are: structural or functional topology; domain independent; quantification of elements’ relationships; visibility and capture of emergent properties. We introduce a set of models and measures through the dimensions of a profiling framework illustrated with an exploratory case

This study was carried out to evaluate the knowledge of Ribeirão Preto manicurists concerning the general features of AIDS and the changes occurred in their professional procted in consequence to this syndrome. A total of 40 manicurists form. Ribeirão Preto-SP were selected, through the telephone number guide and by considering the manicurists indications . The data were collected through individual interview, based on a structured form. The results showed that some professionals have incorrect knowledge about basic notions related to HIV/ AIDS (transmission/prevention). We emphasize that sterilizaton methods used by all of them are not efficient to inativate HIV

Association Of Bartonella Species With Wild And Synanthropic Rodents In Different Brazilian Biomes

Bartonella spp. comprise an ecologically successful group of microorganisms that infect erythrocytes and have adapted to different hosts, which include a wide range of mammals, besides humans. Rodents are reservoirs of about two-thirds of Bartonella spp. described to date; and some of them have been implicated as causative agents of human diseases. In our study, we performed molecular and phylogenetic analyses of Bartonella spp. infecting wild rodents from five different Brazilian biomes. In order to characterize the genetic diversity of Bartonella spp., we performed a robust analysis based on three target genes, followed by sequencing, Bayesian inference, and maximum likelihood analysis. Bartonella spp. were detected in 25.6% (117/457) of rodent spleen samples analyzed, and this occurrence varied among different biomes. The diversity analysis of gltA sequences showed the presence of 15 different haplotypes. Analysis of the phylogenetic relationship of gltA sequences performed by Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood showed that the Bartonella species detected in rodents from Brazil was closely related to the phylogenetic group A detected in other cricetid rodents from North America, probably constituting only one species. Last, the Bartonella species genogroup identified in the present study formed a monophyletic group that included Bartonella samples from seven different rodent species distributed in three distinct biomes. In conclusion, our study showed that the occurrence of Bartonella bacteria in rodents is much more frequent and widespread than previously recognized. © 2016, American Society for Microbiology. This research deals with the effects of exogenous growth regulators on leaf osmotic potential of tomato cultivar "Angela". To study the influence of growth substances on osmotic potentia, (2-chloroethyl) trimethylammonium chloride (CCC) at concentration of 2,000 ppm, succinic acid-2,2-dirnethylhydrazide (Alar) (3,000 ppm), and potassium gibberellate (Gibrel) (100 ppm) were applied. The leaf osmotic potential established everyday during six days showed that plants treated with Gibrel presented lower (negative) osmotic potential. CCC promoted better equilibrium in the osmotic potential of tomato plants. Leaves of tomato cultivar "Angela" presented higher osmotic potential in the morning in relation to leaves collected in the afternoon. O CCC causou maior equilíbrio no potencial osmótico foliar do tomateiro. Observou-se que as folhas da cultivar "Angela'' mostraram potencial osmótico mais alto pela manhã com relação ao período da tarde

Innovative moments and poor outcome in narrative therapy

To analyse a poor outcome case of narrative therapy with a woman victim of intimate violence. Method: The Innovative Moments Coding System: version 1 was applied to all sessions to track the innovative moments (i-moments) in the therapeutic process. I moments are the narrative details that occur in psychotherapeutic conversations that are outside the influence of the problematic narrative. This research aims to describe the processes involved in the stability of meanings in psychotherapy through a dialogical approach to meaning making. Findings: Contrarily to what usually occurs in good outcome cases, re-conceptualization i-moments are absent. Moreover, two specific types of i-moments emerged with higher duration: reflection and protest. Qualitative analysis showed that the potential meanings of these i-moments were surpassed by a return to the problematic narrative. Conclusion: The therapeutic stability seems to be maintained by a systematic return to the problematic narrative after the emergence of novelties. This process was referred from a dialogical perspective as a mutual in-feeding of voices, one that emerges in the i-moment and another one that supports the problematic narrative, which is maintained by an oscillation between these two types of voices during therapy. This article was supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), by the Grant PTDC/PSI/72846/2006 (Narrative Processes in Psychotherapy, 2007-2010) and by the PhD Grant SFRH/BD/16995/2004

A systematic approach to the interrogation and sharing of standardised biofilm signatures

Publicado em "6th International Conference on Practical Applications of Computational Biology & Bioinformatics", ISBN 978-3-642-28838-8The study of microorganism consortia, also known as biofilms, is associated to a number of applications in biotechnology, ecotechnology and clinical domains. A public repository on existing biofilm studies would aid in the design of new studies as well as promote collaborative and incremental work. However, bioinformatics approaches are hampered by the limited access to existing data. Scientific publications summarise the studies whilst results are kept in researchers’ private ad hoc files. Since the collection and ability to compare existing data is imperative to move forward in biofilm analysis, the present work has addressed the development of a systematic computer-amenable approach to biofilm data organisation and standardisation. A set of in-house studies involving pathogens and employing different state-of-the-art devices and methods of analysis was used to validate the approach. The approach is now supporting the activities of BiofOmics, a public repository on biofilm signatures (http://biofomics.org).The authors thank, among others, Rosario Oliveira, Maria Joao Vieira, Idalina Machado, Nuno Cerca, Mariana Henriques, Pilar Teixeira, Douglas Monteiro, Melissa Negri, Susana Lopes, Carina Almeida and Helder Lopes, for submitting their data.
