Determinants of adoption level of risk management strategies by fish farmers in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria
The study examined the socio-economic determinants of level of adoption of risk management strategies by fish farmers in Degema Local Government Area of Rivers State. The study specifically described the socioeconomic characteristics of fish farmers, identified the various sources of risk and determined the socioeconomic factors that influence the level of adoption of risk management strategies. A two-stage sampling technique was used to select sixty-seven (67) fish farmers. Structured questionnaire and interview schedule were used for data collection. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics and multiple regression. The result showed that majority were young male with an average age of 40 years. The most common sources of risk were the fluctuation in prices of fish feed and fish. The age of farmers, household size, and farming experience were some of the factors that influenced the adoption to risk management strategies. However due to the inadequate extension service activities, farmers were not able to fully utilize the different and essential risk management strategies. Hence, the study recommends that young women should be encouraged to invest in fish farming business. Also, extension agents should be encouraged to disseminate useful information to farmers on essential risk management strategies. Keywords: Risk, Risk Management Strategies, Fish farming, Adoptio
Association between Fruit and Vegetable Intakes and Mental Health in the Australian Diabetes Obesity and Lifestyle Cohort
Increasing prevalence of mental health disorders within the Australian population is a serious public health issue. Adequate intake of fruits and vegetables (FV), dietary fibre (DF) and resistant starch (RS) is associated with better mental and physical health. Few longitudinal studies exist exploring the temporal relationship. Using a validated food frequency questionnaire, we examined baseline FV intakes of 5845 Australian adults from the AusDiab study and estimated food group-derived DF and RS using data from the literature. Perceived mental health was assessed at baseline and 5 year follow up using SF-36 mental component summary scores (MCS). We conducted baseline cross-sectional analysis and prospective analysis of baseline dietary intake with perceived mental health at 5 years. Higher baseline FV and FV-derived DF and RS intakes were associated with better 5 year MCS (p < 0.001). A higher FV intake (754 g/d vs. 251 g/d, Q4 vs. Q1) at baseline had 41% lower odds (OR = 0.59: 95% CI 0.46â0.75) of MCS below population average (<47) at 5 year follow up. Findings were similar for FV-derived DF and RS. An inverse association was observed with discretionary food-derived DF and RS. This demonstrates the association between higher intakes of FV and FV-derived DF and RS with better 5 year mental health outcomes. Further RCTs are necessary to understand mechanisms that underlie this association including elucidation of causal effects
A Bayesian analysis of pentaquark signals from CLAS data
We examine the results of two measurements by the CLAS collaboration, one of
which claimed evidence for a pentaquark, whilst the other found no
such evidence. The unique feature of these two experiments was that they were
performed with the same experimental setup. Using a Bayesian analysis we find
that the results of the two experiments are in fact compatible with each other,
but that the first measurement did not contain sufficient information to
determine unambiguously the existence of a . Further, we suggest a
means by which the existence of a new candidate particle can be tested in a
rigorous manner.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
First measurement of direct photoproduction on the proton
We report on the results of the first measurement of exclusive
meson photoproduction on protons for GeV and GeV. Data were collected with the CLAS detector at the Thomas
Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The resonance was detected via its
decay in the channel by performing a partial wave analysis of the
reaction . Clear evidence of the meson
was found in the interference between and waves at GeV. The -wave differential cross section integrated in the mass range of
the was found to be a factor of 50 smaller than the cross section
for the meson. This is the first time the meson has been
measured in a photoproduction experiment

Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering Beam-Spin Asymmetries
The beam spin asymmetries in the hard exclusive electroproduction of photons
on the proton (ep -> epg) were measured over a wide kinematic range and with
high statistical accuracy. These asymmetries result from the interference of
the Bethe-Heitler process and of deeply virtual Compton scattering. Over the
whole kinematic range (x_B from 0.11 to 0.58, Q^2 from 1 to 4.8 GeV^2, -t from
0.09 to 1.8 GeV^2), the azimuthal dependence of the asymmetries is compatible
with expectations from leading-twist dominance, A = a*sin(phi)/[1+c*cos(phi)].
This extensive set of data can thus be used to constrain significantly the
generalized parton distributions of the nucleon in the valence quark sector.Comment: 1 tex file (6 pages), 4 (eps) figure
Beam Spin Asymmetries in DVCS with CLAS at 4 .8 GeV
We report measurements of the beam spin asymmetry in Deeply Virtual Compton
Scattering (DVCS) at an electron beam energy of 4.8 GeV using the CLAS detector
at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The DVCS beam spin
asymmetry has been measured in a wide range of kinematics, 1(GeV/c)
(GeV/c), , and 0.1 (GeV/c)
(GeV/c), using the reaction \pEpX. The number of
H and H events are separated in
each bin by a fit to the line shape of the H
distribution. The validity of the method was studied in detail using
experimental and simulated data. It was shown, that with the achieved missing
mass squared resolution and the available statistics, the separation of DVCS-BH
and events can reliably be done with less than 5% uncertainty. The
- and -dependences of the moments of the asymmetry are
extracted and compared with theoretical calculations
Evidence for a backward peak in the gamma+d->pi^0+d cross section near the eta threshold
High-quality cross sections for the reaction gamma+d->pi^0+d have been
measured using the CLAS at Jefferson Lab over a wide energy range near and
above the eta-meson photoproduction threshold. At backward c.m. angles for the
outgoing pions, we observe a resonance-like structure near E_gamma=700 MeV. Our
model analysis shows that it can be explained by eta excitation in the
intermediate state. The effect is the result of the contribution of the
N(1535)S_11 resonance to the amplitudes of the subprocesses occurring between
the two nucleons and of a two-step process in which the excitation of an
intermediate eta meson dominates.Comment: slightly modified title, additional paragraph and a table (Table 2)
