Practical thermodynamics of Yukawa systems at strong coupling
Simple practical approach to estimate thermodynamic properties of strongly
coupled Yukawa systems, in both fluid and solid phases, is presented. The
accuracy of the approach is tested by extensive comparison with direct computer
simulation results (for fluids and solids) and the recently proposed
shortest-graph method (for solids). Possible applications to other systems of
softly repulsive particles are briefly discussed.Comment: Published in J. Chem. Phy
Power supply of autonomous systems using solar modules
The article shows the methods of constructing autonomous decentralized energy systems from solar modules. It shows the operation of up DC inverter. It demonstrates the effectiveness of DC inverters with varying structure. The system has high efficiency and low level of conductive impulse noise and at the same time the system is practically feasible. Electrical processes have been analyzed to determine the characteristics of operating modes of the main circuit elements. Recommendations on using the converters have been given
Effect of multiaxial forging on microstructure and mechanical properties of Mg-0.8Ca alloy
It was shown that multiaxial forging with continuous decrease of temperature from 450°C to 250°C turns coarse structure of the Mg-0.8Ca alloy in homogenized state with grain size of several hundreeds μm into fine structure with average grain size of about 2.1 μm. Refinement of structure is accompanied by drastic increase of mechanical properties: tensile yield strength increases from 50 MPa to 193 MPa, ultimate tensile strength increases from 78 to 308 MPa and elongation to fracture increases from 3.0% to 7.2%. The microstructural evolution during multiaxial forging is studied using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and EBSD analysis. The mechanisms responsible for refinement of microstructure are discusse
Roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) are a novel potential reservoir for human visceral leishmaniasis in the Emilia-Romagna region of northeastern Italy
Leishmaniasis is a complex human disease caused by intracellular parasites of the genus Leishmania, predominantly transmitted by the bite of sand flies. In Italy, leishmaniasis is caused exclusively by Leishmania infantum, responsible for the human and canine visceral leishmaniases (HVL and CVL, respectively). Within the Emilia-Romagna region, two different foci are active in the municipalities of Pianoro and Valsamoggia (both in the province of Bologna). Recent molecular studies indicated that L. infantum strains circulating in dogs and humans are different, suggesting that there is an animal reservoir other than dogs for human visceral leishmaniasis in the Emilia-Romagna region. In this work, we analyzed specimens from wild animals collected during hunts or surveillance of regional parks near active foci of human visceral leishmaniasis for L. infantum infection in the province of Bologna. Out of 70 individuals analyzed, 17 (24%) were positive for L. infantum. The infection prevalence in hedgehogs (Erinaceus europaeus), roe deer (Capreolus capreolus), badgers (Meles meles), and bank voles (Myodes glareolus) was 80, 33, 25, and 11%, respectively. To distinguish the two strains of L. infantum we have developed a nested PCR protocol optimized for animal tissues. Our results demonstrated that most (over 90%) of L. infantum infections in roe deer were due to the strain circulating in humans in the Emilia-Romagna region

Bionic models for identification of biological systems
This article proposes a clinical decision support system that processes biomedical data. For this purpose a bionic model has been designed based on neural networks, genetic algorithms and immune systems. The developed system has been tested on data from pregnant women. The paper focuses on the approach to enable selection of control actions that can minimize the risk of adverse outcome. The control actions (hyperparameters of a new type) are further used as an additional input signal. Its values are defined by a hyperparameter optimization method. A software developed with Python is briefly described
The strain-induced transitions of the piezoelectric, pyroelectric and electrocaloric properties of the CuInPS films
The low-dimensional ferroelectrics, ferrielectrics and antiferroelectrics are
of urgent scientific interest due to their unusual polar, piezoelectric,
electrocaloric and pyroelectric properties. The strain engineering and strain
control of the ferroelectric properties of layered 2D Van der Waals materials,
such as CuInP(S,Se) monolayers, thin films and nanoflakes, are of
fundamental interest and especially promising for their advanced applications
in nanoscale nonvolatile memories, energy conversion and storage, nano-coolers
and sensors. Here, we study the polar, piezoelectric, electrocaloric and
pyroelectric properties of thin strained films of a ferrielectric
CuInPS covered by semiconducting electrodes and reveal an unusually
strong effect of a mismatch strain on these properties. In particular, the sign
of the mismatch strain and its magnitude determine the complicated behavior of
piezoelectric, electrocaloric and pyroelectric responses. The strain effect on
these properties is opposite, i.e., "anomalous", in comparison with many other
ferroelectric films, for which the out-of-plane remanent polarization,
piezoelectric, electrocaloric and pyroelectric responses increase strongly for
tensile strains and decrease or vanish for compressive strains.Comment: 16 pages, 5 figures, to be presented at the VI Lithuanian-Polish

The High Frequency Instrument of Planck: Requirements and Design
The Planck satellite is a project of the European Space Agency based on a wide international collaboration, including United States and Canadian laboratories. It is dedicated to the measurement of the anisotropy of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) with unprecedented sensitivity and angular resolution. The detectors of its High frequency Instrument (HFI) are bolometers cooled down to 100 mK. Their sensitivity will be limited by the photon noise of the CMB itself at low frequencies, and of the instrument background at high frequencies. The requirements on the measurement chain are directly related to the strategy of observation used for the satellite. Due to the scanning on the sky, time features of the measurement chain are directly transformed into angular features in the sky maps. This impacts the bolometer design as well as other elements: For example, the cooling system must present outstanding temperature stability, and the amplification chain must show, down to very low frequencies, a flat noise spectrum
Planck pre-launch status: HFI beam expectations from the optical optimisation of the focal plane
Planck is a European Space Agency (ESA) satellite, launched in May 2009, which will map the cosmic microwave background anisotropies in intensity and polarisation with unprecedented detail and sensitivity. It will also provide full-sky maps of astrophysical foregrounds. An accurate knowledge of the telescope beam patterns is an essential element for a correct analysis of the acquired astrophysical data. We present a detailed description of the optical design of the High Frequency Instrument (HFI) together with some of the optical performances measured during the calibration campaigns. We report on the evolution of the knowledge of the pre-launch HFI beam patterns when coupled to ideal telescope elements, and on their significance for the HFI data analysis procedure
