The Theory Behind TheoryMine
Abstract. We describe the technology behind the TheoryMine novelty gift company, which sells the rights to name novel mathematical theorems. A tower of four computer systems is used to generate recursive theories, then to speculate conjectures in those theories and then to prove these conjectures. All stages of the process are entirely automatic. The process guarantees large numbers of sound, novel theorems of some intrinsic merit.
Fireballs Loading and the Blast Wave Model of Gamma Ray Bursts
A simple function for the spectral power
is proposed to model, with 9 parameters, the spectral and temporal evolution of
the observed nonthermal synchrotron power flux from GRBs in the blast wave

self-consistency are spelled out. The spectra are found to be most sensitive to
the baryon loading, expressed in terms of the initial bulk Lorentz factor

User-centred design to promote the effective use of rear-mountefoldable roll-over protective structures (Fropss): Prototype evaluation among novice and expert farmers.
Aim of study: We tested the perceived quality in use of a prototype of a handling supporting device, developed through a user-centred design process intended for rear-mounted foldable rollover protective-structures (FROPSs).Area of study: The study was performed in the Province of Cuneo, which has the largest number of farms and the highest share of utilized agricultural area (UAA) in Piedmont Region, NW Italy.Material and methods: Three groups of users, novice-novice (NN), novice-expert (NE) and expert-expert (EE) were asked to raise two rear-mounted FROPSs: a traditional one and a second one equipped with a supporting device which consisted of a gas spring and a rod. A questionnaire has been used to record the perceived quality in use of both FROPSs (effort, physical discomfort, temporal demand and ease of use) and perceived usefulness and attitudes toward the adoption of the supporting device.Main results: All groups reported less physical effort, more stable postures, higher ease of use in handling the FROPS equipped with the supporting device; NN users, in particular, declared to be willing to adopt the supporting device in the future on their tractors when commercially available.Research highlights: Previous studies reported discomfort in operating the FROPS as the main cause of its improper use. A solution to improve FROPS reachability was developed and tested with users. Benefits were perceived by both novice users and expert users
Single chain structure in thin polymer films: Corrections to Flory's and Silberberg's hypotheses
Conformational properties of polymer melts confined between two hard
structureless walls are investigated by Monte Carlo simulation of the
bond-fluctuation model. Parallel and perpendicular components of chain
extension, bond-bond correlation function and structure factor are computed and
compared with recent theoretical approaches attempting to go beyond Flory's and
Silberberg's hypotheses. We demonstrate that for ultrathin films where the
thickness, , is smaller than the excluded volume screening length (blob
size), , the chain size parallel to the walls diverges logarithmically,
with . The corresponding bond-bond
correlation function decreases like a power law, with
being the curvilinear distance between bonds and . % Upon increasing
the film thickness, , we find -- in contrast to Flory's hypothesis -- the
bulk exponent and, more importantly, an {\em decreasing}
that gives direct evidence for an {\em enhanced} self-interaction of chain
segments reflected at the walls. Systematic deviations from the Kratky plateau
as a function of are found for the single chain form factor parallel to the
walls in agreement with the {\em non-monotonous} behaviour predicted by theory.
This structure in the Kratky plateau might give rise to an erroneous estimation
of the chain extension from scattering experiments. For large the
deviations are linear with the wave vector, , but are very weak. In
contrast, for ultrathin films, , very strong corrections are found
(albeit logarithmic in ) suggesting a possible experimental verification of

Multiple Instance Learning for Emotion Recognition using Physiological Signals
The problem of continuous emotion recognition has been the subject of several studies. The proposed affective computing approaches employ sequential machine learning algorithms for improving the classification stage, accounting for the time ambiguity of emotional responses. Modeling and predicting the affective state over time is not a trivial problem because continuous data labeling is costly and not always feasible. This is a crucial issue in real-life applications, where data labeling is sparse and possibly captures only the most important events rather than the typical continuous subtle affective changes that occur. In this work, we introduce a framework from the machine learning literature called Multiple Instance Learning, which is able to model time intervals by capturing the presence or absence of relevant states, without the need to label the affective responses continuously (as required by standard sequential learning approaches). This choice offers a viable and natural solution for learning in a weakly supervised setting, taking into account the ambiguity of affective responses. We demonstrate the reliability of the proposed approach in a gold-standard scenario and towards real-world usage by employing an existing dataset (DEAP) and a purposely built one (Consumer). We also outline the advantages of this method with respect to standard supervised machine learning algorithms
Intention and motor representation in purposive action
Are there distinct roles for intention and motor representation in explaining the purposiveness of action? Standard accounts of action assign a role to intention but are silent on motor representation. The temptation is to suppose that nothing need be said here because motor representation is either only an enabling condition for purposive action or else merely a variety of intention. This paper provides reasons for resisting that temptation. Some motor representations, like intentions, coordinate actions in virtue of representing outcomes; but, unlike intentions, motor representations cannot feature as premises or conclusions in practical reasoning. This implies that motor representation has a distinctive role in explaining the purposiveness of action. It also gives rise to a problem: were the roles of intention and motor representation entirely independent, this would impair effective action. It is therefore necessary to explain how intentions interlock with motor representations. The solution, we argue, is to recognise that the contents of intentions can be partially determined by the contents of motor representations. Understanding this content-determining relation enables better understanding how intentions relate to actions

Design of Cloud Robotic Services for Senior Citizens to Improve Independent Living and Personal Health Management
A cloud robotics solution was designed and initially tested with a mobile robotic platform and a smart environment, in order to provide health-care management services to senior citizens and improve their independent living. The solution was evaluated in terms of Quality of Service (QoS) and tested in the realistic scenario of the DomoCasa Living Lab, Peccioli, Italy. In particular, a medication reminding service, a remote home monitoring and a user indoor localization algorithm were outsourced in the cloud and provided to the robots, users and carers. The system acquired data from a smart environment and addressed the robot to the user for service delivery. Experiments showed a service's Reliability of Response at least of the 0.04 % and a Time of Response of the same order of magnitude of the processing time required by the user localization algorithm
EMDR and CBT for Cancer Patients: Comparative Study of Effects on PTSD, Anxiety, and Depression
This pilot study examined the efficacy of eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) treatment compared with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) in treating posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in oncology patients in the follow-up phase of the disease. The secondary aim of this study was to assess whether EMDR treatment has a different impact on PTSD in the active treatment or during the followup stages of disease. Twenty-one patients in follow-up care were randomly assigned to EMDR or CBT groups, and 10 patients in the active treatment phase were assigned to EMDR group. The Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R) and Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale (CAPS) were used to assess PTSD at pretreatment and 1 month posttreatment. Anxiety, depression, and psychophysiological symptoms were also evaluated. For cancer patients in the follow-up stage, the absence of PTSD after the treatment was associated with a significantly higher likelihood of receiving EMDR rather than CBT. EMDR was significantly more effective than CBT in reducing scores on the IES-R and the CAPS intrusive symptom subscale, whereas anxiety and depression improved equally in both treatment groups. Furthermore, EMDR showed the same efficacy both in the active cancer treatment and during the follow-up of the disease
