Dilepton asymmetries at factories in search of transitions
In order to detect the possible presence of
amplitudes in neutral meson decays, we consider the measurement of decay
time asymmetries involving like-sign dilepton events at the factories.Comment: 5 pages, latex, no fig
Two-Particle Correlations and Mixing
We study the EPR correlation implied by the entangled wavefunction of the
pair created by the (4S) resonance. The analysis uses
the basis provided by the mass eigenstates rather than the flavour
states . Data on the inclusive dilepton charge ratio are close
to the expectation of quantum mechanics, but nearly 8 standard deviations away
from that of complete decoherence.Comment: 10 pages, Latex, no figure
CP-Violating Correlations between Lepton-Charge and Jet-Charge in Z -> b\bar b events
Correlations that signal direct CP violation in the bottom sector are
suggested. They need data on events which consist of a bottom
hadron decay into an exclusive semileptonic channel (where is
a hadron), and the other bottom hadron decay into a multi-body final state that
manifests as a jet in the opposite hemisphere.Comment: 10 pages, Latex, no figures, expanded versio
Asset-Liability Management of Maybank During 1991-1997
This study sought to analyze the assets and liabilities management in banking with a focus on the experience of Maybank which is one of the leading banks in Malaysia. The liabilities and asset structure of this as reflected in its balance sheets for the period of 1991-1997 have been examined as a case study.
The study is data based. It is primarily based on balance sheet statements of Maybank which is incorporated in its annual reports. With a scrutiny of these annual reports we used a quantitative approach in analysing the significance of major variables such as deposits, credits, investment, loan and among others to see how asset and liability of the bank is managed. Specifically some ratios and
percentages have been computed to see how the bank managed its business to achieve its diverse goals of profitability and liquidity in order to win the confidence and trust of its customers and public at large in the country.
The findings on this study shows that Maybank’s asset and liability are well managed and it is economically performing well in banking business. Despite the present dismal economic situation in the country, the bank has managed to make some profit around RM0.50 million in
1997-1998(June End). In the next millennium the bank need to prepare for still better strategies to meet the new
challenges
Attention to retention: Implications of institutional practices of four-year colleges and universities on graduation rates of students with ADHD
Advances in medication and support services in high schools have influenced the growing number of students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) enrolling in colleges and universities. Unfortunately, their lower graduation rates and extended time to graduation creates multiple challenges to themselves, their institution’s, and their communities. Limited information is available regarding how disability services impact graduation rates for students with ADHD in higher education. More information is needed about how the practices instituted by disability support center leaders in post-secondary institution’s impact the graduation rates of students with ADHD. Retention, a financial and ethical concern for universities, is pushed to the forefront by lawmakers who demand an increased return on their state’s educational investment. Disability resource directors, school registrar officials, and disability resource center websites were data sources. Information was gathered about the number of students with ADHD that have graduated from each institution over the past three years. A non-experimental quantitative design (correlation) was used that provided a process for gathering information about use of disability services, which was then correlated and compared to the overall graduation rate of college students with ADHD over a three-year period. Qualitative information regarding types of services highlighted commonly used services and responses from directors were discussed regarding collaborative partnerships and training for faculty and staff. A positive correlation between use of services and graduation rate was found from examining one school that submitted complete data. Overall, the response rate was low, particularly for the colleges, which impacted the ability to respond to some of the research questions. Some directors noted a preference for the social theory of retention in support of why they don’t collect data on specific groups of students with disabilities, while others chose to not participate at all due to a lack of data tracking. Because funding for programming and targeted services depend on knowledge gained from data tracking, these findings may have implications for policy and practice. Educational leaders may be able to utilize the results of this study to shape future institutional policies and practices that impact the success of their students

Prevalence of HIV Infection among Trauma Patients Admitted to\ud Bugando Medical Centre, Mwanza, Tanzania and its\ud Influence on Outcome
HIV infection, a major health problem worldwide, has been reported to be prevalent in trauma patients, thus presents an occupational hazard to health care workers who care for these patients. The purpose of this study was to establish the prevalence of HIV among trauma patients in our setting and to compare the outcome of these patients who are HIV positive with those who are HIV negative. This was a descriptive cross sectional study involving trauma patients aged 11 years and above, admitted to the surgical wards of Bugando Medical Centre in Mwanza, Tanzania over a six-month period from October 2008 to March 2009. All eligible patients were consecutively enrolled in the study. Data were collected using a pre-tested, coded questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS computer software. A total of 250 trauma patients were recruited and studied. The mean age of the study population was 36.37±15.35. Males accounted for the majority (N=202; 80.8%) of the study population. The prevalence of HIV among trauma patients was 11.6%. Among the HIV positive patients, 26 (89.7%) were males and majority aged 31-40 years. Seventy two percent of HIV positive patients had CD4+ count of ≥ 200 cells/μl. Overall length of hospital stays (LOS) ranged from 1 - 90 days with mean of 19.11 ± 15.84 days. Using multivariate logistic regression, injury severity score (ISS) (P=0.0026), revised trauma scores (RTS) (P= 0.002,), HIV seropositivity (P= 0.0012) and CD4+ count (P= 0.001) were significantly found to be associated with increased LOS. Mortality rate was 10.8% and was significantly associated with; the body region injured (P < 0.05), ISS (P = 0.026), RTS (P = 0.001), PTS (P= 0.01), HIV positivity (P= 0.0001) and CD4+ count (P= 0.035). HIV is prevalent among trauma patients in our setting. A substantial risk of exposure to HIV exists in health workers who care for these patients. Thus, all trauma health care workers in this region need to practice universal barrier precautions in order to reduce the risk of exposure to HIV infection. HIV positive patients with CD4+ count ≥200cells/μl have similar prognosis as HIV negative patients and therefore should be treated the same way
Squeezing in Multivariate Spin Systems
In contrast to the canonically conjugate variates , representing the
position and momentum of a particle in the phase space distributions, the three
Cartesian components, ,, of a spin- system constitute
the mutually non-commuting variates in the quasi-probabilistic spin
distributions. It can be shown that a univariate spin distribution is never
squeezed and one needs to look into either bivariate or trivariate
distributions for signatures of squeezing. Several such distributions result if
one considers different characteristic functions or moments based on various
correspondence rules. As an example, discrete probability distribution for an
arbitrary spin-1 assembly is constructed using Wigner-Weyl and Margenau-Hill
correspondence rules. It is also shown that a trivariate spin-1 assembly
resulting from the exposure of nucleus with non-zero quadrupole moment to
combined electric quadrupole field and dipole magnetic field exhibits squeezing
in cerain cases.Comment: 13 pages, 1 Table, Presented at ICSSUR-05, Franc
