TYPOLOGY OF THE TRANSFORMATIONS OCCURRED IN THE PERI-URBAN SPACE OF HUERTA DE VALENCIA. EVIDENCE FROM NORTH ARCH OF VALENCIA (SPAIN)
[EN] This paper present the outputs obtained from the measurement and classification of the different types
of changes happened in the last 70 years on the Northern area of expansion of the city of Valencia. The
city has progressively been covering, with different rhythms and intensities, the space of La Huerta.
We can identify between 1944 and 2014 a group of transformations that occur repetitively, building a
change pattern identified as common on the city s expansion evolution. The methodology is based on
the analysis and measurement of changes occurred on land structure, land use, buildings occupation
and on the traditional structure of non-urban roads. The key sources to measure such changes have been
the use of the Cadastre of 1929 1944; 1972; and 1989; the orthophoto collections from the Valencian
Regional Library and the evolution of SIOSE mapping. The most outstanding results refer to the surprising
resilience of some elements from the structure of La Huerta de Valencia and the discovery and
identification of the main transformations patterns that could be generalized to the rest of La Huerta

Circularly polarized laser emission induced in isotropic and achiral dye systems
The production of efficient, tunable, and switchable circularly polarized laser emission would have far reaching implications in optical communications or biophotonics. In this work, it is demonstrated the direct generation of circularly polarized (CP) laser emission in achiral and isotropic dye laser systems without the use of extracavity polarizing elements, and without resorting to chiral dyes, chiral liquid crystal matrices, or interferometric methods. The origin of this ellipticity arises from the dynamic birefringence induced by the strong and polarized laser pumping and the subsequent orientation anisotropy of the excited molecular dipoles. A complete polarimetric characterization of the polarization state of conventional dye laser oscillators as a function of different experimental parameters is performed and it is shown that the generated light always possesses a certain level of circularity that changes in a distinctive way with pump energy and polarization. These results demonstrate that it is possible to generate and modulate CP laser light from efficient and photostable conventional laser dyes.Peer Reviewe
Detecting individual gravity modes in the Sun: Chimera or reality?
Over the past 15 years, our knowledge of the interior of the Sun has
tremendously progressed by the use of helioseismic measurements. However, to go
further in our understanding of the solar core, we need to measure gravity (g)
modes. Thanks to the high quality of the Doppler-velocity signal measured by
GOLF/SoHO, it has been possible to unveil the signature of the asymptotic
properties of the solar g modes, thus obtaining a hint of the rotation rate in
the core. However, the quest for the detection of individual g modes is not yet
over. In this work, we apply the latest theoretical developments to guide our
research using GOLF velocity time series. In contrary to what was thought till

Diagnosis, management, and outcomes of patients with syncope and bundle branch block
Although patients with syncope and bundle branch block (BBB) are at high risk of developing atrio-ventricular block, syncope may be due to other aetiologies. We performed a prospective, observational study of the clinical outcomes of patients with syncope and BBB following a systematic diagnostic approach. Patients with ≥1 syncope in the last 6 months, with QRS duration ≥120 ms, were prospectively studied following a three-phase diagnostic strategy: Phase I, initial evaluation; Phase II, electrophysiological study (EPS); and Phase III, insertion of an implantable loop recorder (ILR). Overall, 323 patients (left ventricular ejection fraction 56 ± 12%) were studied. The aetiological diagnosis was established in 267 (82.7%) patients (102 at initial evaluation, 113 upon EPS, and 52 upon ILR) with the following aetiologies: bradyarrhythmia (202), carotid sinus syndrome (20), ventricular tachycardia (18), neurally mediated (9), orthostatic hypotension (4), drug-induced (3), secondary to cardiopulmonary disease (2), supraventricular tachycardia (1), bradycardia-tachycardia (1), and non-arrhythmic (7). A pacemaker was implanted in 220 (68.1%), an implantable cardioverter defibrillator in 19 (5.8%), and radiofrequency catheter ablation was performed in 3 patients. Twenty patients (6%) had died at an average follow-up of 19.2 ± 8.2 months. In patients with syncope, BBB, and mean left ventricular ejection fraction of 56 ± 12%, a systematic diagnostic approach achieves a high rate of aetiological diagnosis and allows to select specific treatment
SentiCircles for contextual and conceptual semantic sentiment analysis of Twitter
Lexicon-based approaches to Twitter sentiment analysis are gaining much popularity due to their simplicity, domain independence, and relatively good performance. These approaches rely on sentiment lexicons, where a collection of words are marked with fixed sentiment polarities. However, words’ sentiment orientation (positive, neural, negative) and/or sentiment strengths could change depending on context and targeted entities. In this paper we present SentiCircle; a novel lexicon-based approach that takes into account the contextual and conceptual semantics of words when calculating their sentiment orientation and strength in Twitter. We evaluate our approach on three Twitter datasets using three different sentiment lexicons. Results show that our approach significantly outperforms two lexicon baselines. Results are competitive but inconclusive when comparing to state-of-art SentiStrength, and vary from one dataset to another. SentiCircle outperforms SentiStrength in accuracy on average, but falls marginally behind in F-measure
Cultural Beliefs and Understandings of Cervical Cancer among Mexican Immigrant Women in Southeast Georgia
Rural Mexican immigrant women in the U.S. are infrequently screened and experience health disparities from cervical cancer. We explored cancer-related cultural beliefs in this population. We administered a cross-sectional survey to 39 Mexican immigrant women due for screening. We conducted univariate and bivariate analyses of participants’ characteristics, Pap test history, cancer-related knowledge and beliefs, and cultural consensus analysis about causes of cervical cancer and barriers to screening. For all the cultural consensus tasks, there was consensus (Eigenratios \u3e3:1) among survey participants. Comparing the rankings of risk factor clusters, clusters related to sexual behaviors were ranked more severely than clusters related to genetic or other behavioral factors. There was agreement on ideas of cervical cancer causation and barriers to screening among these women. Hence, improved methods of disseminating important health information and greater access to care are needed, particularly in relationship to stigma about sex and birth control practice
An asymmetric BODIPY triad with panchromatic absorption for high-performance red-edge laser emission

A ferroelectric memristor
Memristors are continuously tunable resistors that emulate synapses.
Conceptualized in the 1970s, they traditionally operate by voltage-induced
displacements of matter, but the mechanism remains controversial. Purely
electronic memristors have recently emerged based on well-established physical
phenomena with albeit modest resistance changes. Here we demonstrate that
voltage-controlled domain configurations in ferroelectric tunnel barriers yield
memristive behaviour with resistance variations exceeding two orders of
magnitude and a 10 ns operation speed. Using models of ferroelectric-domain
nucleation and growth we explain the quasi-continuous resistance variations and
derive a simple analytical expression for the memristive effect. Our results
suggest new opportunities for ferroelectrics as the hardware basis of future
neuromorphic computational architectures
