Experimental study on the influence of drill wear in CFRP drilling processes

CO2 laser machining represents a flexible technique for the rapid fabrication of miniaturized polymer structures such as polymethylmethacrilate (PMMA) microfluidic devices. A model to estimate the main dimensions (depth and width) of laser machined channels is presented, depending on process parameters (incident power, scanning speed). Blind cavities, to be used as fluid collectors, are machined layer by layer using multiple overlapping sequences of straight grooves with different scanning directions. The proposed technique shows that the removal depth varies proportionally with the number of layers machined, while surface roughness is influenced by the grooves spacing and the orientation of the scanning direction between successive layers. A method for thermally bonding the PMMA sheets, constituting the 3D structure of the chip, is also presented. The combination of high temperatures and a low bonding pressures makes it possible to generate a bulk junction enabling good performances in terms of sealing characteristic

Biological systems interact with Engineered NanoMaterials (ENMs): Possible environmental risks

    Get PDF
There is a growing and controversial public debate on the potential risk of NanoMaterials (NMs) to living organisms, including humans. In particular, the processes of dispersion and bioaccumulation of Engineered NanoMaterials (ENMs) into the environment are poorly investigated. Biological systems interact with ENMs in a very complex dynamic way whose comprehension is still at its infancy. Thus the evaluation of the environmental impact of ENMs may be useful to minimize or eliminate ENMs toxicity and/or ecotoxicity, and to help authorities to draw directives and regulations for a safe production and use of ENMs. Here we briefly review biotoxicity and environmental risks of ENMs (like carbon- and metalnanoparticles) reporting also our experience in the cytotoxicity of carbon (C) and silver (Ag) NanoParticles (NPs) on HeLa cells and nanoecotoxicity on Paracentrotus lividus

Komposisi Dan Sebaran Patotipe Xanthomonas Oryzae Pv. Oryzae, Penyakit Pada Padi Di Nusa Tenggara Barat

A study was carried out to identify the composition and distribution of Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) pathotypes on rice crop in West Nusa Tenggara, during the 2012 planting season. Three activities were conducted, namely collection of rice leaf samples from the fields, isolation of Xoo from the leaf samples at the laboratory, and testing pathotypes of Xoo at the screen house. Rice leaves showing typical bacterial leaf blight (BLB) symptom were collected from various farmers' fields. The samples were detached and put into paper envelopes, and were taken to the laboratory for isolation of Xoo, at the Laboratory of Pythopathology of Indonesian Center for Rice Research (ICRR), Sukamandi. Pathotype testing was done in the ICRR screen house by inoculating the leaves of five differential rice varieties using inocula of the Xoo isolates. Resistance of the rice differential varieties was determined based on the BLB disease severity. Inoculated plant with disease severity ≤11% was considered resistant (R) and disease severity >11% was susceptible (S). From the 240 samples of rice leaf infected with BLB collected from West Nusa Tenggara, 232 Xoo isolates were obtained. The Xoo pathotype identification showed that pathotype IV was the most dominant in West Nusa Tenggara during the 2012 planting season, numbering 118 isolates or 51.0% out of the total isolates, followed by pathotype VIII (67 isolates or 29.0%), and pathotype III (47 isolates or 20.0%)

Performance evaluation of attribute-based encryption in automotive embedded platform for secure software over-the-air update

This paper aims to show that it is possible to improve security for over the air update functionalities in an automotive scenario through the use of a cryptographic scheme, called “Attribute-Based-Encryption” (ABE), which grants confidentiality to the software/firmware update done Over The Air (OTA). We demonstrate that ABE is seamlessly integrable into the state of the art solutions regarding the OTA update by showing that the overhead of the ABE integration in terms of computation time and its storage is negligible w.r.t. the other overheads that are introduced by the OTA process, also proving that security can be enhanced with a minimum cost. In order to support our claim, we report the experimental results of an implementation of the proposed ABE OTA technique on a Xilinx ZCU102 evaluation board, which is an automotive-oriented HW/SW platform that is equipped with a Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC chip that is representative of the computing capability of real automotive Electronic Control Units (ECUs)

: The purpose of this research is to know the competency students of Biology Education Study Program on excellent and regular classes in conducting Field Experience Program in 2014/2015. There are 46 students conducted Field Experience Program in 23 schools. Eighteen of them are excellent class and the rest twenty eight students are regular class. Data of this research were collected by observation of theacher tutor, where it is using the instrument of Field Experience Program Implementation Unit Faculty of Teacher Training and Education University Mataram. Data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The data of students competency in conducting Field Experience Program were analyzed using ANOVA with software SPSS version 16. The results show that the average score of the Field Experience Program students competency in all aspects of planning 4.19 for excellent class and 4.30 for regular class. the competency of Field Experience Program students in implementation aspect has the average score of 3.77 for excellent class and 4.11 for regular class. Competency of students in the aspect of attitude and personality has average score of 4.38 for excellent class and 4.28 for regular class. these average all aspect have good categories. The result of ANOVA analysis has show there is no different in competency of students of Biology Education Study Program classes between excellent and regular classes in carry out Field Experience Program in school the year of 2014/2015
