    Suicide inhibition of alpha-oxamine synthases:structures of the covalent adducts of 8-amino-7-oxononanoate synthase with trifluoroalanine

    The suicide inhibition of the α-oxamine synthases by the substrate analog, L-trifluoroalanine was investigated. The inhibition resulted in the formation of a complex with loss of all three fluorine atoms. Decarboxylation and loss of fluoride occurred immediately after aldimine formation. The inherent flexibility could allow the difluorinated intermediate complex to adopt a suitable conformation. Decarboxylation in the normal mechanism occurs after formation of the ketoacid intermediate.link_to_subscribed_fulltex

    Resonantly excited exciton dynamics in two-dimensional MoSe2 monolayers

    We report on the exciton and trion density dynamics in a single layer of MoSe2, resonantly excited and probed using three-pulse four-wave mixing (FWM), at temperatures from 300 K to 77 K. A multiexponential third-order response function for amplitude and phase of the heterodyne-detected FWM signal including four decay processes is used to model the data. We provide a consistent interpretation within the intrinsic band structure, not requiring the inclusion of extrinsic effects. We find an exciton radiative lifetime in the subpicosecond range consistent to what has been recently reported by Jakubczyk et al. [Nano Lett. 16, 5333 (2016)]. After the dominating radiative decay, the remaining exciton density, which has been scattered from the initially excited direct spin-allowed radiative state into dark states of different nature by exciton-phonon scattering or disorder scattering, shows a slower dynamics, covering 10-ps to 10-ns time scales. This includes direct spin-allowed transitions with larger in-plane momentum, as well as indirect and spin-forbidden exciton states. We find that exciton-exciton annihilation is not relevant in the observed dynamics, in variance from previous finding under nonresonant excitation. The trion density at 77 K reveals a decay of the order of 1 ps, similar to what is observed for the exciton. After few tens of picoseconds, the trion dynamics resembles the one of the exciton, indicating that trion ionization occurs on this time scale

    The data from the DISTO Collaboration on the exclusive pp -> p K+ Lambda production acquired at T_p = 2.85 GeV have been re-analysed in order to search for a deeply bound K- pp (= X) state, to be formed in the binary process pp -> K+ X. The preliminary spectra of the DeltaM_{K+} missing-mass and of the M_{p Lambda} invariant-mass show, for large transverse-momenta of protons and kaons, a distinct broad peak with a mass M_X = 2265 +- 2 MeV/c^2 and a width Gamma_X = 118 +- 8 MeV/c^2.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures.     We have analyzed data of the DISTO experiment on the exclusive pp -> p Lambda K+ reaction at 2.85 GeV to search for a strongly bound compact K-pp (= X) state to be formed in the pp -> K+ + X reaction. The observed spectra of the K+ missing-mass and the p Lambda invariant-mass with high transverse momenta of p and K+ revealed a broad distinct peak with a mass M_X = 2265 +- 2 (stat) +- 5 (syst) MeV/c2 and a width Gamma_X = 118 +- 8 (stat) +- 10 (syst) MeV.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

    A Rotating Collapsar and Possible Interpretation of the LSD Neutrino Signal from SN 1987A

    We consider an improved rotational mechanism of the explosion of a collapsing supernova. We show that this mechanism leads to two-stage collapse with a phase difference of \sim 5 h. Based on this model, we attempt a new interpretation of the events in underground neutrino detectors on February 23, 1987, related to the supernova SN 1987A.Comment: 18 pages, 3 figures, 9 table

    New limits on dark--matter WIMPs from the Heidelberg--Moscow experiment

    New results after 0.69 kg yr of measurement with an enriched 76Ge detector of the Heidelberg--Moscow experiment with an active mass of 2.758 kg are presented. An energy threshold of 9 keV and a background level of 0.042 counts/(kg d keV) in the energy region between 15 keV and 40 keV was reached.The derived limits on the WIMP--nucleon cross section are the most stringent limits on spin--independent interactions obtained to date by using essentially raw data without background subtraction.Comment: 8 pages (latex) including 5 postscript figures and 2 tables.     GPR surveys and RPA aerial photography using in conducting geocryological studies on the Oka plateau in the Eastern Sayan ridge

    The results of ground-penetrating radar (GPR) studies of permafrost and aerial photography, carried out at key sites in the Sentsa River valley (Oka Plateau, Eastern Sayan Ridge), are presented.For geophysical studies, an OKO-2 GPR completed with an AB-90 shielded antenna unit was used with a maximum sounding depth of up to 20 m and a resolution of 0.5 m. To account for the landscape elevation, the Trimble TS635 tacheometer and the Leiсa DISTO D 510 rangefinder performed hypsometric measurements with a step of 1.0 m. Aerial photography was carried out by a remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) DJI Inspire 1 Pro, equipped with a Zenmuse 3X camera (a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels) with a spatial resolution of 5.7–7.8 cm/pixel (in different years).In the structure of frozen lacustrine-alluvial sediments, three GPR complexes are distinguished, corresponding to the active layer and frozen rocks with different amounts of schlieren, lenses and layers of texture-forming ice. The orthophoto map and tacheometric survey analysis showed that the destruction of frost mounds occurs from the second half of April to the first half of October. The most significant relief change is due to the thawing of icy pulverescent clayey silts. It leads to subsidence blocks in the ledge of the Sentsa River terrace. Lateral river thermoerosion also contributes to the frost mounds destruction
