Morera Theorems for Complex Manifolds
AbstractWe prove Morera theorems for the Radon transform integrating on geodesic spheres on complex analytic manifolds of arbitrary dimension. To avoid pathologies, we assume that the radius of each sphere of integration is less than the injectivity radius at its center. The proofs of the main results are local, and they involve the microlocal properties of associated Radon transforms and a theorem of Hörmander, Kawai, and Kashiwara on microlocal singularities. We consider Morera theorems for spheres of fixed radius and spheres of arbitrary radius
The Langley 14- by 22-Foot Subsonic Tunnel: Description, Flow Characteristics, and Guide for Users
The Langley 14- by 22-foot Subsonic Tunnel is a closed circuit, single-return atmospheric wind tunnel with a test section that can be operated in a variety of configurations (closed, slotted, partially open, and open). The closed test section configuration is 14.5 ft high by 21.75 ft wide and 50 ft long with a maximum speed of about 338 ft/sec. The open test section configuration has a maximum speed of about 270 ft/sec, and is formed by raising the ceiling and walls, to form a floor-only configuration. The tunnel may be configured with a moving-belt ground plane and a floor boundary-layer removal system at the entrance to the test section for ground effect testing. In addition, the tunnel had a two-component laser velocimeter, a frequency modulated (FM) tape system for dynamic data acquisition, flow visualization equipment, and acoustic testing capabilities. Users of the 14- by 22-foot Subsonic Tunnel are provided with information required for planning of experimental investigations including test hardware and model support systems
Isotopic difference in the heteronuclear loss rate in a two-species surface trap
We have realized a two-species mirror-magneto-optical trap containing a
mixture of Rb (Rb) and Cs atoms. Using this trap, we have
measured the heteronuclear collisional loss rate due to
intra-species cold collisions. We find a distinct difference in the magnitude
and intensity dependence of for the two isotopes Rb and
Rb which we attribute to the different ground-state hyperfine splitting
energies of the two isotopes.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
A disposable amperometric biosensor for rapid screening of anticholinesterase activity in soil extracts
A disposable amperometric biosensor for the determination
of anticholinesterase activity in soil extracts is described.
The sensitive membrane was obtained by co-crosslinking
acetylcholinesterase and choline oxidase with bovine serum
albumin using glutaraldehyde. The anticholinesterase activity
of the soil extract was measured using chronoamperometry
at 650 mV vs. Ag/AgCl to monitor the biocatalytically
produced H2O2 before and after the inhibition step. An
inhibition percentage of 38 ± 4% was recorded for soil
extracts spiked with 10 ppb of ethyl parathion. The device
has the potential to be used as a gross sensor for the
assessment of anticholinesterase activity in soil extracts
Low-speed aerodynamic characteristics of a twin-engine general aviation configuration with aft-fuselage-mounted pusher propellers
An investigation was conducted to determine the aerodynamic characteristics of an advanced turboprop aircraft model with aft-pylon-mounted pusher propellers. Tests were conducted through an angle-of-attack range of -8 to 28 degrees, and an angle-of-sideslip range of -20 to 20 degrees at free-stream conditions corresponding to Reynolds numbers of 0.55 to 2.14 x 10 to the 6th power based on mean aerodynamic chord. Test results show that for the unpowered configurations the maximum lift coefficients for the cruise, takeoff, and landing configurations are 1.45, 1.90, and 2.10, respectively. Nacelle installation results in a drag coefficient increase of 0.01. Increasing propeller thrust results in a significant increase in lift for angles of attack above stall and improves the longitudinal stability. The cruise configuration remains longitudinally stable to an angle of attack 5 degrees beyond the stall angle, the takeoff configuration is stable 4 degrees beyond stall angle, and the landing configuration is stable 3 degrees beyond stall angle. The predominant effect of symmetric thrust on the lateral-directional aerodynamic characteristics is in the post-stall region, where additional rudder control is available with power on
Single-bubble and multi-bubble cavitation in water triggered by laser-driven focusing shock waves
In this study a single laser pulse spatially shaped into a ring is focused
into a thin water layer, creating an annular cavitation bubble and cylindrical
shock waves: an outer shock that diverges away from the excitation laser ring
and an inner shock that focuses towards the center. A few nanoseconds after the
converging shock reaches the focus and diverges away from the center, a single
bubble nucleates at the center. The inner diverging shock then reaches the
surface of the annular laser-induced bubble and reflects at the boundary,
initiating nucleation of a tertiary bubble cloud. In the present experiments,
we have performed time-resolved imaging of shock propagation and bubble wall
motion. Our experimental observations of single-bubble cavitation and collapse
and appearance of ring-shaped bubble clouds are consistent with our numerical
simulations that solve a one dimensional Euler equation in cylindrical
coordinates. The numerical results agree qualitatively with the experimental
observations of the appearance and growth of bubble clouds at the smallest
laser excitation rings. Our technique of shock-driven bubble cavitation opens
novel perspectives for the investigation of shock-induced single-bubble or
multi-bubble cavitation phenomena in thin liquids
Assessment of the radiological impact of a decommissioning nuclear power plant in Italy
The assessment of the radiological impact of a decommissioning Nuclear Power
Plant is presented here through the results of an environmental monitoring
survey carried out in the area surrounding the Garigliano Power Plant. The
levels of radioactivity in soil, water, air and other environmental matrices
are shown, in which {\alpha}, {\beta} and {\gamma} activity and {\gamma}
equivalent dose rate are measured. Radioactivity levels of the samples from the
Garigliano area are analyzed and then compared to those from a control zone
situated more than 100 km away. Moreover, a comparison is made with a previous
survey held in 2001. The analyses and comparisons show no significant
alteration in the radiological characteristics of the area surroundings the
plant, with an overall radioactivity depending mainly from the global fallout
