Evaluation of Hydrology of Hunnicutt Creek Wetland
The storage capacity of the wetlands is comprised of groundwater flux measurements of both in and out of the wetland estimated by computer system Groundwater modeling Software. The inflow average for February was using the float method was 7.08*10-3 m3/s. The surface water levels have fluctuated over time of months. The average outflows were 0.026 m3/s in November, 0.039 m3/s in January, and in February 0.034m3/s. Reference evapotranspiration (ETo) was calculated using the Penman-Monteith equation. These values were correlated to surface water fluctuation. In the fall ETo values were approximately 1.4 mm/day and in the winter they were 1.1 mm/day. The actual surface water fluctuation was 4.5 mm/day in the fall and 1 mm/day in the winter
Psychological Consequences of Adopting a Therapeutic Lawyering Approach: Pitfalls and Protective Strategies
The integration of preventive law and therapeutic jurisprudence holds promise for enriching the careers of many practicing lawyers. However, the process of becoming more therapeutic in orientation also involves risk. This Article discusses four potential pitfalls: (1) the process of becoming psychologically-minded and its inherent hazards, including overidentification; (2) the difficulty of balancing neutrality and involvement; (3) the need to identify and manage transference and countertransference; and (4) the risk of secondary trauma. Protective strategies, drawn from the psychotherapeutic and burnout literature, are outlined. This Article stresses the need for lawyers to recognize potential hazards and draw on the experience of other therapeutic professionals as they adopt a more explicitly therapeutic framework, thereby avoiding the pitfalls in favor of the benefits
Question design in nurse-led and GP-led telephone triage for same-day appointment requests: a comparative investigation
Objective: To compare doctorsâ and nursesâ communication with patients in primary care telephone triage consultations. Design: Qualitative comparative study of content and form of questions in 51 telephone triage encounters between practitioners (general practitioners (GPs)=29; nurses=22) and patients requesting a same-day appointment in primary care. Audio-recordings of nurse-led calls were synchronised with video recordings of nurse's use of computer decision support software (CDSS) during triage. Setting: 2 GP practices in Devon and Warwickshire, UK. Participants: 4 GPs and 29 patients; and 4 nurses and 22 patients requesting a same-day face-to-face appointment with a GP. Main outcome measure: Form and content of practitioner-initiated questions and patient responses during clinical assessment. s)), GPs and nurses differed in the average number (GP=5.51, (SD=4.66); N=14.72, (SD=6.42)), content and form of questions asked. A higher frequency of questioning in nurse-led triage was found to be due to nursesâ use of CDSS to guide telephone triage. 89% of nurse questions were oriented to asking patients about their reported symptoms or to wider-information gathering, compared to 54% of GP questions. 43% of GP questions involved eliciting patient concerns or expectations, and obtaining details of medical history, compared to 11% of nurse questions. Nurses using CDSS frequently delivered questions designed as declarative statements requesting confirmation and which typically preferred a âno problemâ response. In contrast, GPs asked a higher proportion of interrogative questions designed to request information. Conclusions: Nurses and GPs emphasise different aspects of the clinical assessment process during telephone triage. These different styles of triage have implications for the type of information available following nurse-led or doctor-led triage, and for how patients experience triage
Feedback mapping - The curricular cornerstone of an "educational alliance".
PURPOSE: The "educational alliance" concept articulates a collaborative framework to facilitate effective feedback through transparency of opportunities aligned with learner stage and intended educational outcomes. Using this framework, we evaluated feedback across a 5 year undergraduate medical program to support embedding a successful learner - teacher "educational alliance". METHOD: A comprehensive mapping exercise used an iterative action research process of source documentary analysis, consultations with key curriculum stakeholders and qualitative analysis. The "educational alliance" model provided a critical lens through which to ensure feedback opportunities aligned with intended learning outcomes and developmental progression. RESULTS: Key information about the type, frequency and timing of feedback opportunities was identified within 188 curricular components. The purpose and intended learning outcomes were mapped, aligning with the stage of learning and with an expectation of supporting learners' capacity for self-regulation. This focus providing clear articulation of feedback opportunities supported the longitudinal developmental curricular review, and facilitated enhanced awareness of dialogic feedback within the "educational alliance". CONCLUSIONS: Explicit alignment of learning intentions between learner and educator is key to forming a successful "educational alliance". The feedback map provides clarity ensuring mutual understanding of intended learning outcomes. Incorporating Data Link Messaging into a Multi-function Display for General Aviation Aircraft
One objective of the Small Aircraft Transportation System (SATS) Project is to increase the capacity and utilization of small non-towered, non-radar equipped airports by transferring traffic management activities to an automated system and separation responsibilities to general aviation (GA) pilots. This paper describes the development of a research multi-function display (MFD) to support the interaction between pilots and an automated Airport Management Module (AMM). Preliminary results of simulation and flight tests indicate that adding the responsibility of monitoring other traffic for self-separation does not increase pilots subjective workload levels. Pilots preferred using the enhanced MFD to execute flight procedures, reporting improved situation awareness over conventional instrument flight rules (IFR) procedures
Photon pair generation using four-wave mixing in a microstructured fibre: theory versus experiment
We develop a theoretical analysis of four-wave mixing used to generate photon
pairs useful for quantum information processing. The analysis applies to a
single mode microstructured fibre pumped by an ultra-short coherent pulse in
the normal dispersion region. Given the values of the optical propagation
constant inside the fibre, we can estimate the created number of photon pairs
per pulse, their central wavelength and their respective bandwidth. We use the
experimental results from a picosecond source of correlated photon pairs using
a micro-structured fibre to validate the model. The fibre is pumped in the
normal dispersion regime at 708nm and phase matching is satisfied for widely
spaced parametric wavelengths of 586nm and 894nm. We measure the number of
photons per pulse using a loss-independent coincidence scheme and compare the
results with the theoretical expectation. We show a good agreement between the
theoretical expectations and the experimental results for various fibre lengths

Medical Student Perceptions of Feedback and Feedback Behaviors Within the Context of the âEducational Allianceâ
Purpose: Using the "educational alliance" as a conceptual framework, the authors explored medical students' beliefs about feedback and how their feedback behaviors reflect their perceptions.
Method: Five focus groups (four to six medical students each) at one UK medical school in 2015 were used to capture and elucidate learners' feedback perceptions and behaviors within the context of the learner-educator relationship. A map of key feedback opportunities across the program was used as a tool for exploring student engagement with the feedback process. Qualitative data were analyzed using an approach based on grounded theory principles.
Results: Three learner feedback behaviors emerged: recognizing, using, and seeking feedback. Five core themes influencing these behaviors were generated: learner beliefs, attitudes, and perceptions; relationships; teacher attributes; mode of feedback; and learning culture. Conceptual models illustrating the relationships between the themes and each behavior were developed. Learning culture influenced all three behaviors with a wide context of influences.
Conclusions: Ensuring that feedback leads to improved performance requires more than training educators in best practices. The conceptual models support the educational alliance framework and illustrate the context and complexity of learning culture surrounding the educational relationship, learner, and feedback exchange. The educational alliance approach is underpinned by a mutual understanding of purpose and responsibility. Enhancing learners' feedback literacy skills seems to be the key aspect of the educational alliance in need of attention. Empowering learners to recognize, seek, and use feedback received within diverse learning cultures is essential
