    Playing to be influencers: A comparative study on Spanish and Colombian young people on Instagram

    This paper explores and describes how Colombian and Spanish young people present themselves on Instagram according to the social game and the symbolic capital that they infer as normative from influencers. The methodology used combines the focus group technique (seven groups) with a content analysis of the profiles of the informants (N = 651). In total, 53 first-year creative industries university students participated. The results show that the work developed by the influencers has given rise to an aspirational narrative genre that young people tend to emulate according to the Instagram habitus in order to be recognised as leading players. Their self-presentation has three main features: a) a preference for showing ‘in-classifying’ practices such as leisure and tastes for freedom; b) the predominance of a specific type of profile and gestures that avoids self-production markers and aspires towards a global audience; and c) the normalisation of self-promotional discourse. Most informants experience Instagram as a game in which they compete to accumulate visibility conceived as relational validation, although in the case of Colombian informants there is a more professional outlook towards the platform. Finally, for all of them, Instagram constitutes a serious game, and many of them admit to feeling too exposed. As a result, they have implemented self-surveillance practices, such as consulting with peers before posting photographs, using secondary accounts and deleting posts.El trabajo explora y describe cómo presentan su identidad en Instagram jóvenes colombianos y españoles de acuerdo con el juego social y los capitales simbólicos que infieren como normativos a partir de la figura del influencer. La metodología combina la técnica del grupo focal (7 grupos) con el análisis de contenido de los perfiles de los informantes (N= 651). En total, participaron 53 universitarios de primer curso del ámbito de las industrias creativas. Los resultados muestran que el trabajo desarrollado por los influencers ha cristalizado en un género narrativo aspiracional que estos jóvenes tienden a emular para mostrarse conforme al habitus de Instagram y ser reconocidos como agentes legítimos. Así, su autopresentación presenta tres rasgos: 1) preferencia por mostrar prácticas que expresan estatus como el ocio y los gustos de libertad, 2) predominio de un tipo de retrato y gestualidad que evita las marcas de autoproducción y aspira a una audiencia global, y 3) la normalización del discurso autopromocional. La mayoría de estos estudiantes utiliza Instagram como un juego donde compiten por la acumulación de visibilidad concebida como validación relacional, aunque entre la muestra colombiana aparece una visión más profesional de la plataforma. Finalmente, Instagram constituye para todos un juego serio donde reconocen sentirse demasiado expuestos, lo que les lleva a desarrollar prácticas de autovigilancia como la consulta a los pares, el uso de cuentas secundarias y el borrado de publicaciones

    Prompt photon yield and v2v_2 coefficient from gluon fusion induced by magnetic field in heavy-ion collision

    We compute the production of prompt photons and the v2v_2 harmonic coefficient in relativistic heavy-ion collisions induced by gluon fusion in the presence of an intense magnetic field, during the early stages of the reaction. The calculations take into account several parameters which are relevant to the description of the experimental transverse momentum distribution, and elliptic flow for RHIC and LHC energies. The main imput is the strength of the magnetic field which varies in magnitude from 1 to 3 times the pion mass squared, and allows the gluon fusion that otherwise is forbidden in the absence of the field. The high gluon occupation number and the value of the saturation scale also play an important role in our calculation, as well as a flow velocity and geometrical factors. Our results support the idea that the origin of at least some of the photon excess observed in heavy-ion experiments may arise from magnetic field induced processes, and gives a good description of the experimental data.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, conference paper from ISMD 201

    La química cumple un papel importante en la vida del hombre a nivel personal e industrial por sus múltiples campos de acción tales como la orgánica , inorgánica, fisicoquímica, bioquímica y química analítica, el presente estudio se centrará en la química inorgánica la cual es la encargada de estudiar todos los elementos que se conocen excepto el carbono y sus derivados. Esta área es muy importante para tecnólogos químicos y químicos industriales pero su práctica genera residuos que dañan el ambiente, el mayor propósito es minimizar el impacto en la realización de las prácticas, proponiendo tratamientos a los residuos generados o la reutilización de estos en posteriores practicas. Cabe resaltar que en la escuela de química no existe un manual como tal, lo que justifica la elaboración de esta tesis [2]. Las guías de laboratorio permiten afianzar los conocimientos teóricos desarrollados en la asignatura de química inorgánica, su experimentación sirve para desarrollar destrezas en las técnicas de laboratorio, desarrollar métodos de síntesis y conocimiento de la química descriptiva. El manual de laboratorio será la herramienta que complementa los conocimientos teóricos tales como, La Estructura Electrónica del Átomo, Perspectiva General de la Tabla Periódica; El Enlace Químico; Termodinámica Inorgánica; Ácidos y Bases; Oxidación y Reducción; Introducción a Los Complejos de los Metales de Transición. El manual consta de trece prácticas de las cuales diez estaban definidas y las tres restantes se definieron en el desarrollo de la tesis, previo concepto emitido por los docentes que orientan la asignatura

    The Influence of Oral Contraceptive Knowledge on Oral Contraceptive Continuation Among Young Women

    Background: Using a multidimensional approach, we assessed young women's knowledge of oral contraceptives (OC) and its influence on OC continuation rates. Methods: We used data from 659 women aged 13?25 years participating in a randomized controlled trial of an educational text message OC continuation intervention. Women received 6 months of daily text messages or routine care. At baseline and 6 months, we administered a comprehensive 41-item questionnaire measuring knowledge of OC's mechanism, effectiveness, use, side effects, risks, and benefits. We ascertained OC continuation status and reasons for discontinuation at 6 months. We analyzed relationships between OC knowledge and continuation with multivariable logistic regression. Results: Young women scored, on average, 22.8 out of 41 points on the OC knowledge assessment at baseline and 24.7 points at 6 months. The 6-month OC continuation rate was 59%. OC continuers had >2-points-higher OC knowledge scores at 6 months than discontinuers (p2 points lower than women who discontinued for other reasons (p-values<0.001). In multivariable regression models, each correct response on the baseline and 6-month knowledge assessments was associated with a 4% and 6% increased odds of OC continuation, respectively. Six-month OC knowledge scores were negatively associated with OC discontinuation due to side effects (odds ratio [OR] 0.94) and forgetfulness (OR 0.88). Conclusions: OC knowledge, which was low among young women in our study, was associated with OC continuation and common reasons for discontinuation. Continued efforts to characterize relationships between OC knowledge and behavior and to test the effectiveness of different components of interventions aimed at increasing knowledge, addressing side effects, and improving use of OCs are warranted.Peer Reviewedhttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/140126/1/jwh.2013.4574.pd
