Thermal-structural analyses of Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) hot section components
Three dimensional nonlinear finite element heat transfer and structural analyses were performed for the first stage high pressure fuel turbopump (HPFTP) blade of the space shuttle main engine (SSME). Directionally solidified (DS) MAR-M 246 and single crystal (SC) PWA-1480 material properties were used for the analyses. Analytical conditions were based on a typical test stand engine cycle. Blade temperature and stress strain histories were calculated by using the MARC finite element computer code. The structural response of an SSME turbine blade was assessed and a greater understanding of blade damage mechanisms, convective cooling effects, and thermal mechanical effects was gained
General practitioners' and nurses' experiences of using computerised decision support in screening for diabetic foot disease:implementing Scottish Clinical Information - Diabetes Care in routine clinical practice
<strong>Objective</strong> The Scottish Care Information - Diabetes Collaboration (SCI-DC) developed a computer- based information system to create a shared electronic record for use by all involved in the care of patients with diabetes mellitus. The objectives of this study were to understand primary care practitioners' views towards screening for diabetic foot disease and their experience of the SCI-DC system.
<strong>Method</strong> We conducted an exploratory study using qualitativemethods. Semi-structured interviews were audiotape-recorded, transcribed and subjected to thematic analysis. Seven practice nurses and six general practitioners (GPs) with special responsibility for diabetes care inNHS Lothian participated.
<strong>Results</strong> Primary care clinicians reported good systems in place to screen for diabetes-related complications and to refer their patients to specialist care. Foot ulceration was rarely observed; other diabetesrelated conditions were seen as a higher priority. Most had heard of the SCI-DC foot assessment tool, but its failure to integrate with other primary care information technology (IT) systems meant it was not used in these general practices.
<strong>Conclusions</strong> Adoption of the SCI-DC foot assessment tool in primary care is not perceived as clinically necessary. Although information recorded by specialist services on SCI-DC is helpful, important structural barriers to its implementation mean the potential benefits associated with its use are unlikely to be realised; greater engagement with primary care priorities for diabetes management is needed to assist its successful implementation and adoption
Analytical and finite-element study of optimal strain distribution in various beam shapes for energy harvesting applications
Due to the increasing demand for harvesting energy from environmental vibration, for use in self-powered electronic applications, cantilever-based vibration energy harvesting has attracted great interest from various parties and become one of the most common approaches to convert redundant mechanical energy into electrical energy. As the output voltage produces from a piezoelectric material depends greatly on the geometric shape and the size of the beam, there is a need to model and compare the performance of cantilever beams of differing geometries. This paper presents the study of strain distribution in various shapes of cantilever beams, including a convex and concave edge profile elliptical beams that have been overseen in most of the prior literature. Both analytical and finite element models are derived and the resultant strain distributions in the beam are computed based on MATLAB solver and ANSYS finite element analysis tools. An optimum geometry for a vibration-based energy harvester system is verified. Lastly, experimental results comparing the power density for a triangular and rectangular piezoelectric beams are also presented to validate the finding of the study and the claim as suggested in the literature is verified
PRICE BEHAVIOR IN CORN MARKET WITH IDENTITY PRESERVED TYPES
This study examines the price behavior for identity preserved and generic corn under different demand and competition conditions. Structural response of SSME turbine blade airfoils
Reusable space propulsion hot gas-path components are required to operate under severe thermal and mechanical loading conditions. These operating conditions produce elevated temperature and thermal transients which results in significant thermally induced inelastic strains, particularly, in the turbopump turbine blades. An inelastic analysis for this component may therefore be necessary. Anisotropic alloys such as MAR M-247 or PWA-1480 are being considered to meet the safety and durability requirements of this component. An anisotropic inelastic structural analysis for an SSME fuel turbopump turbine blade was performed. The thermal loads used resulted from a transient heat transfer analysis of a turbine blade. A comparison of preliminary results from the elastic and inelastic analyses is presented
Factors affecting students participation in extra-curricular
Extracurricular activity is a complementary of the requirement and interest in the student academic development. Extracurricular learning styles can be implemented in the form of informal where it can provide effective learning experiences to the students. In extracurricular development, every activity has its own goals and interests that can influence the students to participate in the particular activities. Nowadays, students are more likely to engage or spending their time with unbeneficial activities or isolate themselves in the virtual world. Several studies have been conducted and found that there are factors influence or prevent the students from participating in the extracurricular activities they intended to. These factors have been categorical into three main constraints; structural constraints, intrapersonal constraints, and interpersonal constraints. This paper examines the politics of public budgeting relating to the regional head elections were held on 9th December 2015 for the first time. Election will be held for seven times from 2015 to 2027 in order to reduce election costs. However, the budget process is not easy to imagine because the technical rules are unclear. Meanwhile, elites having interests have strong influence to the budget process. The paper attempts to examine how public participation needs to be improved in the budget process, particularly regarding to the implementation of elections that will create budget democracy
Telehealthcare for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease of irreversible airways obstruction in which patients often suffer exacerbations. Sometimes these exacerbations need hospital care: telehealthcare has the potential to reduce admission to hospital when used to administer care to the pateint from within their own home. OBJECTIVES: To review the effectiveness of telehealthcare for COPD compared with usual face‐to‐face care. SEARCH METHODS: We searched the Cochrane Airways Group Specialised Register, which is derived from systematic searches of the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, AMED, and PsycINFO; last searched January 2010. SELECTION CRITERIA: We selected randomised controlled trials which assessed telehealthcare, defined as follows: healthcare at a distance, involving the communication of data from the patient to the health carer, usually a doctor or nurse, who then processes the information and responds with feedback regarding the management of the illness. The primary outcomes considered were: number of exacerbations, quality of life as recorded by the St George's Respiratory Questionnaire, hospitalisations, emergency department visits and deaths. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS: Two authors independently selected trials for inclusion and extracted data. We combined data into forest plots using fixed‐effects modelling as heterogeneity was low (I(2) < 40%). MAIN RESULTS: Ten trials met the inclusion criteria. Telehealthcare was assessed as part of a complex intervention, including nurse case management and other interventions. Telehealthcare was associated with a clinically significant increase in quality of life in two trials with 253 participants (mean difference ‐6.57 (95% confidence interval (CI) ‐13.62 to 0.48); minimum clinically significant difference is a change of ‐4.0), but the confidence interval was wide. Telehealthcare showed a significant reduction in the number of patients with one or more emergency department attendances over 12 months; odds ratio (OR) 0.27 (95% CI 0.11 to 0.66) in three trials with 449 participants, and the OR of having one or more admissions to hospital over 12 months was 0.46 (95% CI 0.33 to 0.65) in six trials with 604 participants. There was no significant difference in the OR for deaths over 12 months for the telehealthcare group as compared to the usual care group in three trials with 503 participants; OR 1.05 (95% CI 0.63 to 1.75). AUTHORS' CONCLUSIONS: Telehealthcare in COPD appears to have a possible impact on the quality of life of patients and the number of times patients attend the emergency department and the hospital. However, further research is needed to clarify precisely its role since the trials included telehealthcare as part of more complex packages
Upaya Perpustakaan Dalam Mengurangi Plagiarisme Pada Karya Ilmiah Mahasiswa (Studi Kasus Di Upt Perpustakaan Unika Soegijapranata)
Penelitian ini berjudul “Upaya Perpustakaan dalam Mengurangi Plagiarisme pada Karya Ilmiah Mahasiswa: Studi Kasus di UPT Perpustakaan Unika Soegijapranata”. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui upaya yang dilakukan UPT Perpustakaan Unika Soegijapranata dalam mengurangi plagiarisme pada karya ilmiah mahasiswa, dan mengetahui peran TI dalam mendukung upaya mengurangi plagiarisme di UPT Perpustakaan Unika Soegijapranata, serta untuk mengetahui kebijakan yang muncul dari UPT Perpustakaan Unika Soegijapranata. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah studi kasus. Informan dalam penelitian ini merupakan pustakawan atau staff perpustakaan Unika Soegijapranata dan dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi. Teknik analisis data menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa upaya yang dilakukan UPT Perpustakaan Unika Soegijapranata dalam mengurangi plagiarisme pada karya ilmiah mahasiswa adalah dengan pendidikan pemakai, pemasangan rambu anti plagiarisme, penggunaan software plagiarisme checker, perpustakaan berkerjasama dengan pengajar dan, memberikan literasi informasi. Selanjutnya, peran Teknologi Informasi yang ada di perpustakaan Unika sangat mendukung dengan adanya pemanfaatan software turnitin di perpustakaan. Kebijakan yang muncul dari perpustakaan adalah adanya pelatihan pengoperasian turnitin kepada pustakawan atau staff perpustakaan serta adanya kerjasama perpustakaan dengan pengajar
