Influence of the notch-sharpening technique on styrene-acrylonitrile fracture behavior

The Centre Catala del Plastic and Universidad Rey Juan Carlos laboratories joined forces to investigate the effect of the notch-sharpening technique on the fracture parameters of styrene-acrylonitrile. Contact notch-sharpening techniques, such as razor tapping, razor sliding, and razor broaching, and a noncontact procedure, femtolaser, were analyzed. The fracture values of the samples with notches sharpened via contact techniques were divided into two groups: one with pop-in and the other with no pop-in in the load-displacement records; this resulted in the lowest and highest fracture toughnesses, respectively. The fracture parameters of the specimens with notches sharpened via a femtolaser were between those of the samples with notches sharpened via contact procedures in which pop-in occurred and those in which it did not. To explain these results, the crack front of the nontested specimens after sharpening was investigated in depth, we identified the type of damage and measured its size and the crack tip radii. Diseño del manual de procedimientos técnicos y administrativos del laboratorio de aguas residuales de las Empresas Municipales de Cali E.I.C.E E.S.P con base en la norma "NTC-ISO-IEC 17025:2005"

El trabajo efectuado en el laboratorio de aguas residuales de las Empresas municipales de Cali EMCALI EICE ESP ubicado en la planta de tratamiento de aguas residuales Cañaveralejo PTAR-C, tiene como objetivo efectuar un manual de procedimientos cumpliendo con la NTC ISO/IEC 17025: 2005 “Requisitos generales de competencia de laboratorios de ensayo y calibración”, pretendiendo culminar con la buscada acreditación del laboratorio por parte de una organización facultada. Los procedimientos que se elaboraron para el sistema de gestión de calidad fueron los requeridos por la NTC ISO/IEC 17025: 2005, siguiendo sus diferentes parámetros descritos y los establecidos por Emcali. En el laboratorio existían una serie de procedimientos elaborados y no elaborados, los cuales estuvieron sujetos a revisión y a cambios pertinentes. The impact of sport tourism in the urban development of the main Spanish cities: a review of their sport and tourism policies

The purpose of this research is to detect and analyze how sports tourism and strategic planning related to sport and tourism have contributed to the urban and territorial development of some Spanish cities such as Granada or Valencia, as well as to a well-known mature tourist destination such as Costa del Sol in the South of Spain. Urban and territorial implications caused by these touristic and sport developments are studied:the type of public spaces that promote the sport activities on the urban space, how sport activities influence the local and visitor population, or their impact on local economies. In order to reach this objective, the paper is divided into two sections: City and Sport vs. Tourism and Sport, and it stablishes a relationship between the three concepts: City, Tourism and Sports. In this way, the urban content of the Strategic Plans and Sports Policies in Spain is reviewed, and it focuses on the cases of Granada and Valencia as the result oftheir innovative sport planning policies. At the same time,the research focuses on the tourism policies and their territorial and urban involvement in the mature tourism destination ofCosta del Sol. The conclusions show a classification of urban spaces and natural coastal environments that promote the informal sport activities on the public outdoor space

Modeling the Calorific Value of Biomass from Fruit Trees Using Elemental Analysis Data

Pruning of fruit trees produces a great quantity of biomass each year that can be used for energy production. For this purpose, it is necessary to carry out an energy characterization of these pruned wastes, where the determination of heating value is significant. This value is usually measured by an adiabatic or isoperibolic calorimeter, which causes high economic costs and wastes time. The present study is focused on the development of indirect models for heating value prediction of biomass from orange trees Citrus × sinensis Osbeck, almond trees Prunus dulcis (Mill) D.A. Webb, and olive trees Olea europaea L. from an elemental analysis in order to reduce the time of determination as well as the economic costs. Residual biomass was classified and characterized according to CEN regulations such as received, without drying. Also, moisture content wet basis, bark ratio, density, heating value, and elemental composition (carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and sulfur) were measured. The influence of these variables on the heating value was analyzed. Finally, mathematical models were developed to predict this value for this studied species. These models showed coefficients of determination between 0.83 and 0.97, being suitable for industrial use

Leishmania amastigotes in the central nervous system of a naturally infected dog

A 4-year-old male Labrador Retriever dog was presented with a 10-day history of tetraplegia, depression, and absent postural reflexes. The cerebrospinal fluid was positive for Leishmania spp. DNA. At necropsy, a 2-cm long mass was observed adhered to C7 and C8 left spinal nerves. Microscopically, nerve fiber destruction together with mixed inflammatory infiltration was observed in the spinal nerves. Cervical spinal cord sections showed multifocal, diffuse granulomatous inflammation in the white matter. In the brain, perivascular infiltrates were observed in some areas together with subtle pallor of the parenchyma. Immunohistochemistry for Leishmania infantum confirmed the presence of amastigotes in the spinal nerves, spinal cord, brain parenchyma, and choroid plexuses. The current study describes the presence of Leishmania amastigotes in nervous tissue inciting radiculoneuritis, myelitis, and mild meningoencephalitis, suggesting a likely route by which L. infantum amastigotes reach and affect the central nervous system parenchyma

Plan estratégico empresarial para el caso Uber

Uber es una de las empresas más disruptivas del mundo, su plataforma permite conectar conductores con pasajeros. Su rápido crecimiento en el mercado se debe a su modelo colectivo, innovador y bastante novedoso para mercados recién explorados con modelos de negocios disruptivos. Con la presente investigación los autores buscan dar solución, en parte, a los problemas que enfrenta Uber en Perú, garantizando la sostenibilidad y el crecimiento. En sostenibilidad lo que se busca es mejorar el servicio (calidad, seguridad y beneficios) incrementando un 24% el ingresos promedio del conductor. En crecimiento, se busca generar nuevas formas de conectar pasajeros y conductores para proporcionarle más valor a Uber mediante la propuesta del Uber Free. En resumidas cuentas, lo que propone esta investigación es atender necesidades no satisfechas mediante estrategias de mejoramiento de calidad de servicio, seguridad para pasajeros, beneficios para conductores, y nuevos servicios adaptados al mercado dinámico para garantizar un crecimiento agresivo, lo que se encuentra alineado con lo que propone el director de operaciones, Barney Harford. La estrategia de crecimiento que recomiendan los autores de la presente investigación es aumentar la preferencia de los conductores por Uber, ya que ellos no trabajan con la aplicación en todo momento porque encuentran beneficios adicionales en otras. Es así que se buscará innovar mediante un nuevo servicio adaptado al mercado dinámico de Perú, que es el Uber Free. El impacto de estas estrategias se proyecta en el mediano plazo, y se evidenciará en la generación de mayor valor para Uber

Ideas fundamentales de estocásticos en libros de texto de educación primaria: una alternativa de enseñanza

En el Sistema Educativo Nacional Mexicano, la probabilidad y la estadística son las disciplinas más desatendidas a pesar de ser importantes en la solución de problemas de la vida cotidiana. Impera el culto al número, lo que limita el desarrollo de los pensamientos probabilístico y estadístico. El presente documento tiene como objetivo identificar las ideas fundamentales de estocásticos en las lecciones de los libros de texto del primer ciclo (primer y segundo grados) de la educación primaria en México y evidenciar que estos convocan una red conceptual. Lo anterior permitiría su introducción en el aula por parte de los docentes. Bajo un enfoque epistemológico, se emplearon criterios de análisis para señalar las diez ideas fundamentales de estocásticos y la naturaleza epistemológica de la apropiación del concepto matemático. Los resultados conciernen a señalar una ausencia de los temas de probabilidad y reducción de los temas de estadística al mero cálculo numérico en los libros de texto. Ninguna lección refiere a los estocásticos de manera declarada, pero, a pesar de esto, se pudieron rescatar siete que implican un fenómeno aleatorio y su posible tratamiento en el aula de manera sistemática

Para decirlo con mayor precisión y claridad: familias o individuos que viven en ese tipo de pobreza: ¿pueden alcanzar un mejor nivel de vida? ¿Pueden demostrar en sus trayectorias personales que rompen el círculo y alcanzan la mayoría de las capacidades del modelo que teoriza Martha Naussbaum? El mundo propio de una ciudad como Tijuana, acosada por la incertidumbre en su piel y en sus entrañas, tiene la respuesta. Los que escriben esta obra, "Educación en la frontera vulnerable", hacen suya la pregunta y se lanzan a la búsqueda de la respuesta. Para ello poco importa el sitio, lo que vale es la historia personal, las trayectorias de vida. El triángulo escuela, familia, contexto está presente en toda la narrativa, incluso en ese sitio surrealista que es el Cañón del Sainz, donde la vida parece ser carne de cañón, pero donde incluso ahí, la pregunta se sostiene: ¿es posible romper el círculo de la precariedad? Study of inverted planar CH3NH3PbI3 perovskite solar cells fabricated under environmental conditions

Organic-inorganic inverted perovskite solar cells have been analyzed. This structure uses organic semiconductors as electron and hole selective electrodes and the perovskite as light harvesting layer. The anti-solvent deposition method is a frequently used techniques in the elaboration of conventional perovskite solar cells (FTO/TiO2/ CH3NH3PbI3/Spiro-OMetad/Au). However, the anti-solvent method is seldom used in the inverted structure. In this work, we use the anti-solvent method to fabricate the perovskite film for solar cells in the ITO/PEDOT:PSS/ CH3NH3PbI3/PC61BM/Ag configuration, systematically studying the effect of the anti-solvent dripping time and the relative humidity in cell fabrication and performance. The morphological, optical and photovoltaic analyses indicate that the right combination of these two parameters will result in a preferential crystal growth in the (1 1 0) orientation. This allows the formation of homogeneous pinhole-free films that enhance light harvesting and reduce charge-carrier leakage, hence increasing short circuit current and fill factor to obtain a photo-con- version efficiency of about ∼10%
