The general oblivion of Eugenio Muñoz Díaz -known as Eugenio Noel- is one of the more unfortunate injustices of the Spanish Literature. In spite of his exceptional cultural level and his exquisite use of language (always peppered with an acid and intelligent sense of humor, rich references about the classic tradition and a grace so sharpened that, for many critical, grazes the “esperpento”), he is unjustly remembered just becouse his antibullfighting ideology. Puente de Vallecas invites us to a walk across Madrid –after 98´s war–. Taste, sense of smell and tact acquire a remarkable protagonism in this flavorful tale, full of humanity and loaded of humor, that appears like a kaleidoscope of the spanish capital

Myocardial Function Maturation in Very-Low-Birth-Weight Infants and Development of Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia

Background: Myocardial function in very-low-birth-weight infants (VLBWIs) develops during early postnatal life, but different patterns of temporal evolution that might be related to the development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) are not completely understood. Methods: A prospective cohort study including VLBWIs admitted to our NICU from January 2015 to 2017 was conducted. Plasma N-terminal pro B type natriuretic peptide (NTproBNP) levels were measured, and echocardiograms were performed at 24 and 72 h of life and weekly thereafter until 36 weeks of postmenstrual age (PMA). We measured the tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE) by M-mode; the lateral tricuspid E', A', and S' waves; and the myocardial performance index (MPI) by tissue doppler imaging (TDI). The subjects were divided into non-BPD and BPD groups. Results: We included 101 VLBWIs. The TAPSE and E', A', and S' waves increased while MPI-TDI decreased over time. Birth gestational age (GA) and postnatal PMA impacted these parameters, which evolved differently in those who developed BPD compared to those in the non-BPD group. The NTproBNP levels at 14 days of life and different echocardiographic parameters were associated with the development of BPD in different multivariate models. Conclusion: TAPSE and TDI values depend on GA and PMA and follow a different temporal evolution that is related to the later development of BPD. Combined biochemical and echocardiographic biomarkers can help identify which VLBWIs are at higher risk of developing BDP

Sustainability in the Banking Sector: A Predictive Model for the European Banking Union in the Aftermath of the Financial Crisis

[EN] Given the central role of banks in financial stability and the recent impact of their insufficient capitalization, this article focuses on finding determinants of their solvency through financial variables. The study considers the European Banking Union framework and the results of the latter stress test exercises, using a panel of the 45 banks based in 15 European countries that were stress tested in 2014, 2016 and 2018. This paper models bank soundness proxied by the stressed tier capital 1 ratio by means of financial indicators representing a CAMELS (Capital, Assets quality, Management, Earnings, Liquidity and Sensitivity to market risk) approach as well as global systemically important financial institutions (G-SIFIs) additional requirements. The model also specifies a dummy covariate referred to the disclosure of corporate social responsibility (CSR) reports, adopting a comprehensive sustainability scheme. The research period starts with the European Banking Union and includes the three exercises conducted since then. We find that financial sustainability is positively correlated with higher capitalization, earnings and liquid assets, while poor quality assets (high non-performing loans) and inefficiency impact negatively on bank soundness. Moreover, it considers the year-scenario interaction either as a fixed or a random effect. The results support capital and liquidity regulation and highlight factors that reinforce banking soundness. They also reveal a positive connection between CSR and banking solvency.S

The growing range of products and financial services to which the ecuadorian market is subject as well as the laws or regulations imposed by the government have compelled Financial Institutions to change their Strategic Focus Product, in which the customer is who adapts needs to offer products to a customer´s strategic approach, which products and services are tailors to the needs of customers, where the organization must offer products and services specifically for each customer. The customer centric organizations integrate their strategies and processes to a management model customer relation CRM, this in order to understand what are the expectations and experiences of customer, in order to obtain a base in which can be addressed to the products, services, processes an people, to meet the needs of customers over time.

Psychological elements explaining the consumer's adoption and use of a website recommendation system: A theoretical framework proposal

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to understand, with an emphasis on the psychological perspective of the research problem, the consumer's adoption and use of a certain web site recommendation system as well as the main psychological outcomes involved. The approach takes the form of theoretical modelling. Findings: A conceptual model is proposed and discussed. A total of 20 research propositions are theoretically analyzed and justified. Research limitations/implications: The theoretical discussion developed here is not empirically validated. This represents an opportunity for future research. Practical implications: The ideas extracted from the discussion of the conceptual model should be a help for recommendation systems designers and web site managers, so that they may be more aware, when working with such systems, of the psychological process consumers undergo when interacting with them. In this regard, numerous practical reflections and suggestions are presented

Systematic motions in the Galactic plane found in the Hipparcos Catalogue using Herschel's Method

Two motions in the galactic plane have been detected and characterized, based on the determination of a common systematic component in Hipparcos catalogue proper motions. The procedure is based only on positions, proper motions and parallaxes, plus a special algorithm which is able to reveal systematic trends. Our results come from two stellar samples. Sample 1 has 4566 stars and defines a motion of apex (l,b)=(177.8,3.7)+/-(1.5,1.0) and space velocity V=27+/-1 km/s. Sample 2 has 4083 stars and defines a motion of apex (l,b)=(5.4,-0.6)+/-(1.9,1.1) and space velocity V=32+/-2 km/s. Both groups are distributed all over the sky and cover a large variety of spectral types, which means that they do not belong to a specific stellar population. Herschel's method is used to define the initial samples of stars and later to compute the common space velocity. The intermediate process is based on the use of a special algorithm to determine systematic components in the proper motions. As an important contribution, this paper sets out a new way to study the kinematics of the solar neighborhood, in the search for streams, associations, clusters and any other space motion shared by a large number of stars, without being restricted by the availability of radial velocities.Comment: 12 pages and 12 eps figures. The Ramsey property for Banach spaces, Choquet simplices, and their noncommutative analogs

We show that the Gurarij space G and its noncommutative analog NG both have extremely amenable automorphism group. We also compute the universal minimal flows of the automorphism groups of the Poulsen simplex P and its noncommutative analogue NP. The former is P itself, and the latter is the state space of the operator system associated with NP. This answers a question of Conley and Törnquist. We also show that the pointwise stabilizer of any closed proper face of P is extremely amenable. Similarly, the pointwise stabilizer of any closed proper biface of the unit ball of the dual of the Gurarij space (the Lusky simplex) is extremely amenable. These results are obtained via the Kechris--Pestov--Todorcevic correspondence, by establishing the approximate Ramsey property for several classes of finite-dimensional operator spaces and operator systems (with distinguished linear functionals), including: Banach spaces, exact operator spaces, function systems with a distinguished state, and exact operator systems with a distinguished state. This is the first direct application of the Kechris--Pestov--Todorcevic correspondence in the setting of metric structures. The fundamental combinatorial principle that underpins the proofs is the Dual Ramsey Theorem of Graham and Rothschild. In the second part of the paper, we obtain factorization theorems for colorings of matrices and Grassmannians over R and C, which can be considered as continuous versions of the Dual Ramsey Theorem for Boolean matrices and of the Graham-Leeb-Rothschild Theorem for Grassmannians over a finite field
