PT symmetry breaking and explicit expressions for the pseudo-norm in the Scarf II potential

Closed expressions are derived for the pseudo-norm, norm and orthogonality relations for arbitrary bound states of the PT symmetric and the Hermitian Scarf II potential for the first time. The pseudo-norm is found to have indefinite sign in general. Some aspects of the spontaneous breakdown of PT symmetry are analysed.Comment: 16 pages; to appear in Phys. lett.

Reflectionless PT-symmetric potentials in the one-dimensional Dirac equation

We study the one-dimensional Dirac equation with local PT-symmetric potentials whose discrete eigenfunctions and continuum asymptotic eigenfunctions are eigenfunctions of the PT operator, too: on these conditions the bound-state spectra are real and the potentials are reflectionless and conserve unitarity in the scattering process. Absence of reflection makes it meaningful to consider also PT-symmetric potentials that do not vanish asymptotically.Comment: 24 pages, to appear in J. Phys. A : Math. Complexified PSUSY and SSUSY interpretations of some PT-symmetric Hamiltonians possessing two series of real energy eigenvalues

We analyze a set of three PT-symmetric complex potentials, namely harmonic oscillator, generalized Poschl-Teller and Scarf II, all of which reveal a double series of energy levels along with the corresponding superpotential. Inspired by the fact that two superpotentials reside naturally in order-two parasupersymmetry (PSUSY) and second-derivative supersymmetry (SSUSY) schemes, we complexify their frameworks to successfully account for the three potentials.Comment: LaTeX2e, 28 pages, no figure

Quasi-Hermitian supersymmetric extensions of a non-Hermitian oscillator Hamiltonian and of its generalizations

A harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian augmented by a non-Hermitian \pt-symmetric part and its su(1,1) generalizations, for which a family of positive-definite metric operators was recently constructed, are re-examined in a supersymmetric context. Quasi-Hermitian supersymmetric extensions of such Hamiltonians are proposed by enlarging su(1,1) to a su(1,1/1)osp(2/2,R){\rm su}(1,1/1) \sim {\rm osp}(2/2, \R) superalgebra. This allows the construction of new non-Hermitian Hamiltonians related by similarity to Hermitian ones. Some examples of them are reviewed.Comment: 15 pages, no figure; published versio

Open Charm Enhancement in Pb+Pb Collisions at SPS

    Get PDF
The statistical coalescence model for the production of open and hidden charm is considered within the canonical ensemble formulation. The data for the J/\psi multiplicity in Pb+Pb collisions at 158 A GeV are used for the model prediction of the open charm yield. We find a strong enhancement of the open charm production, by a factor of about 2--4, over the standard hard-collision model extrapolation from nucleon-nucleon to nucleus-nucleus collisions. A possible mechanism of the open charm enhancement in A+A collisions at the SPS energies is proposed.Comment: 4 pages, Late

Jets and produced particles in pp collisions from SPS to RHIC energies for nuclear applications

    Get PDF
Higher-order pQCD corrections play an important role in the reproduction of data at high transverse momenta in the energy range 20 GeV s200 \leq \sqrt{s} \leq 200 GeV. Recent calculations of photon and pion production in pppp collisions yield detailed information on the next-to-leading order contributions. However, the application of these results in proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions is not straightforward. The study of nuclear effects requires a simplified understanding of the output of these computations. Here we summarize our analysis of recent calculations, aimed at handling the NLO results by introducing process and energy-dependent KK factors.Comment: 4 pages with 5 eps figures include

The Pressure in 2, 2+1 and 3 Flavour QCD

    Get PDF
We calculate the pressure in QCD with two and three light quarks on a lattice of size 16^3x4 using tree level improved gauge and fermion actions. We argue that for temperatures T > 2T_c systematic effects due to the finite lattice cut-off and non-vanishing quark masses are below 15% in this calculation and give an estimate for the continuum extrapolated pressure in QCD with massless quarks. We find that the flavour dependence of the pressure is dominated by that of the Stefan-Boltzmann constant. Furthermore we perform a calculation of the pressure using 2 light (m_u,d/T=0.4) and one heavier quark (m_s/T = 1). In this case the pressure is reduced relative to that of three flavour QCD. This effect is stronger than expected from the mass dependence of an ideal Fermi gas.Comment: 13 pages, LaTeX2

Matching method and exact solvability of discrete PT-symmetric square wells

    Get PDF
Discrete PT-symmetric square wells are studied. Their wave functions are found proportional to classical Tshebyshev polynomials of complex argument. The compact secular equations for energies are derived giving the real spectra in certain intervals of non-Hermiticity strengths Z. It is amusing to notice that although the known square well re-emerges in the usual continuum limit, a twice as rich, upside-down symmetric spectrum is exhibited by all its present discretized predecessors.Comment: 25 pp, 3 figure
