This document is the Accepted Manuscript Version of the following article: Guillem Anglada-Escude and Mikko Tuomi, 'Comment on "Stellar activity masquerading as planets in the habitable zone of the M dwarf Gliese 581"', Science, Vol 347 (6226), 2015, the final, published version is available online at doi: 10.1126/science.1260796. © 2015 The American Association for the Advancement of Science. All rights reserved.Robertson et al. (Reports, 25 July 2014, p. 440) claimed that activity-induced variability is responsible for the Doppler signal of the proposed planet candidate GJ 581d. We point out that their analysis using periodograms of residual data is inappropriate and promotes inadequate tools. Because the claim challenges the viability of the method to detect exo-Earths, we encourage reanalysis and a deliberation on what the field-standard methods should be.Peer reviewedFinal Accepted Versio

    La profesión de dietista

    Get PDF

Characterization and Anti-inflammatory Effects of Iodinated Acetylenic Acids Isolated from the Marine Sponges Suberites mammilaris and Suberites japonicus

The previously unknown compounds 1–4, acetylenic acids with one or two iodine atom(s), were isolated from the marine sponges Suberites mammilaris and Suberites japonicus. Their complete structures were determined using NMR and mass spectrometry. The methylated compounds 1a and 2a exhibited a strong NO inhibitory effect on RAW264.7 cells, while methylated 3a and 4a were inactive in RAW264.7 cells, but highly active in BV2 microglia cells

Integrating History of Sociology into History of Science: Language Analysis as a Tool for History of Sociology

    No full text
This thesis focuses on methodological possibilities of language as a basis for history of sociology. Current professional history of sociology takes predominantly the form of institutional studies characterized by an attention to social context of knowledge production. Language orientation provides an unutilized opportunity for intellectual history - a supposedly stale alternative of institutional tradition. Development of language-based history creates a methodological position close to approaches common in history of natural sciences. Critical analysis of metaphor studies in sociology serves as an example of risks and challenges of language focus which assists us with articulation of our own methodological position. Following studies of Ladislav Kvasz, historian of natural sciences, the thesis offers methodological apparatus adapted to sociology. Key feature of the presented tool is a capability to distinguish between three levels of language of sociological theory: data, models and theory. These levels differ in functions which they ascribe to corresponding language elements and rising language powers (to constitute new objects and to integrate the ones positioned below). Application of our method is illustrated by two examples. Cursory excursion into history of mathematics in sociology..

LPS exposure increases IL6 expression and STAT3 activation in ATG7KO RTEC cells.

qPCR analysis demonstrated increased LPS-induced IL-6 expression in cortex of ATG7KO kidneys compared to LPS injected controls (A) which was accompanied by (B) decreased LC3-II and increased STAT3 phosphorylation. (C) Densitometric analysis of the expression of phospho-STAT3 relative to total STAT3. (D)Western blot of FKT- and FKT+ cells indicated that the ablation of Atg7 impaired accumulation of the LC3-II isoform in response to LPS (D). At the same time, qPCR analyses showed that the LPS induction of IL-6 was enhanced in the ATG7 deficient FKT- cell line (E) and in RTEC isolated from wild type mice co-incubated in the absence or presence of 5mM 3MA (F).</p
