What Determines NFL Ticket Prices?
This paper studies the demand-side factors that determine NFL teamsā ticket prices from 2009 to 2012 using a panel model. Our model specifies NFL teamsā average ticket prices as a function of GDP per capita, number of competing professional sports teams, stadium renovation within the last two years, the average winning percentage from the previous three seasons, and Pro Bowl players each team had from the previous year. We find that a teamās winning percentage and having a stadium renovation has the largest impact on average ticket prices. We also find that the number of Pro Bowl players is an insignificant determinant of NFL teamsā ticket prices

The effects of particle loading on turbulence structure and modelling
The objective of the present research was to extend the Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) approach to particle-laden turbulent flows using a simple model of particle/flow interaction. The program addressed the simplest type of flow, homogeneous, isotropic turbulence, and examined interactions between the particles and gas phase turbulence. The specific range of problems examined include those in which the particle is much smaller than the smallest length scales of the turbulence yet heavy enough to slip relative to the flow. The particle mass loading is large enough to have a significant impact on the turbulence, while the volume loading was small enough such that particle-particle interactions could be neglected. Therefore, these simulations are relevant to practical problems involving small, dense particles conveyed by turbulent gas flows at moderate loadings. A sample of the results illustrating modifications of the particle concentration field caused by the turbulence structure is presented and attenuation of turbulence by the particle cloud is also illustrated

Sparse Approximation Via Iterative Thresholding
The well-known shrinkage technique is still relevant for contemporary signal processing problems over redundant dictionaries. We present theoretical and empirical analyses for two iterative algorithms for sparse approximation that use shrinkage. The GENERAL IT algorithm amounts to a Landweber iteration with nonlinear shrinkage at each iteration step. The BLOCK IT algorithm arises in morphological components analysis. A sufficient condition for which General IT exactly recovers a sparse signal is presented, in which the cumulative coherence function naturally arises. This analysis extends previous results concerning the Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) and Basis Pursuit (BP) algorithms to IT algorithms
