Irreducible representations of Upq[gl(2/2)]
The two-parametric quantum superalgebra and its
representations are considered. All finite-dimensional irreducible
representations of this quantum superalgebra can be constructed and classified
into typical and nontypical ones according to a proposition proved in the
present paper. This proposition is a nontrivial deformation from the one for
the classical superalgebra gl(2/2), unlike the case of one-parametric
deformations.Comment: Latex, 8 pages. A reference added in v.

Divine intervention? A Cochrane review on intercessory prayer gone beyond science and reason
We discuss in this commentary a recent Cochrane review of 10 randomised trials aimed at testing the religious belief that praying to a god can help those who are prayed for. The review concluded that the available studies merit additional research. However, the review presented a scientifically unsound mixture of theological and scientific arguments, and two of the included trials that had a large impact on the findings had problems that were not described in the review. The review fails to live up to the high standards required for Cochrane reviews

Inverse-designed diamond photonics
Diamond hosts optically active color centers with great promise in quantum computation, networking, and sensing. Realization of such applications is contingent upon the integration of color centers into photonic circuits. However, current diamond quantum optics experiments are restricted to single devices and few quantum emitters because fabrication constraints limit device functionalities, thus precluding color center integrated photonic circuits. In this work, we utilize inverse design methods to overcome constraints of cutting-edge diamond nanofabrication methods and fabricate compact and robust diamond devices with unique specifications. Our design method leverages advanced optimization techniques to search the full parameter space for fabricable device designs. We experimentally demonstrate inverse-designed photonic free-space interfaces as well as their scalable integration with two vastly different devices: classical photonic crystal cavities and inverse-designed waveguide-splitters. The multi-device integration capability and performance of our inverse-designed diamond platform represents a critical advancement toward integrated diamond quantum optical circuits
Expression, crystallization and preliminary crystallographic study of human coronavirus HKU1 nonstructural protein 9
Human coronavirus HKU1 (HCoV-HKU1) belongs to coronavirus group II and encodes 16 nonstructural proteins (nsps) which mediate genome replication and transcription. Among these nsps, nsp9 has been shown to possess single-stranded DNA/RNA-binding properties. The gene that encodes HCoV-HKU1 nsp9 was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli and the protein was subjected to crystallization trials. The crystals diffracted to 2.7 A resolution and belonged to space group P2(1)2(1)2, with unit-cell parameters a = 83.5, b = 88.4, c = 31.2 A, alpha = beta = gamma = 90 degrees and two molecules per asymmetric unit.published_or_final_versio

A dynamic and continuous allowances allocation methodology for the prevention of carbon leakage: Emission control coefficients
© 2018 Elsevier Ltd Carbon leakage has become the core issue of emission trading systems. Using data from Hubei Province, this paper identifies the drawbacks of the prevailing methods for preventing carbon leakage and proposes a new methodology to overcome them, namely, Emission Control Coefficients. In contrast to the common tiered structure method, the Emission Control Coefficients generate a dynamic and continuous emission control coefficient for each industry which will improve the effectiveness and fairness of allowance allocation, set aside sufficient time for the low carbon transformation of industries, and balance the needs to protect competitiveness and decarbonize and are particularly suitable for the emission trading systems of developing counties. This paper makes three main academic contributions: Firstly, it proposes a new indicator, the abatement potential for more effective determining allowance allocation than the prevailing method. Secondly, it better distinguishes industrial differences. Thirdly, it can better respond to the problem of excess allowances that is due to technological advances and trade pattern changes
Your Proof Fails? Testing Helps to Find the Reason
Applying deductive verification to formally prove that a program respects its
formal specification is a very complex and time-consuming task due in
particular to the lack of feedback in case of proof failures. Along with a
non-compliance between the code and its specification (due to an error in at
least one of them), possible reasons of a proof failure include a missing or
too weak specification for a called function or a loop, and lack of time or
simply incapacity of the prover to finish a particular proof. This work
proposes a new methodology where test generation helps to identify the reason
of a proof failure and to exhibit a counter-example clearly illustrating the
issue. We describe how to transform an annotated C program into C code suitable
for testing and illustrate the benefits of the method on comprehensive
examples. The method has been implemented in STADY, a plugin of the software
analysis platform FRAMA-C. Initial experiments show that detecting
non-compliances and contract weaknesses allows to precisely diagnose most proof
failures.Comment: 11 pages, 10 figure
Residual mother-to-child transmission of HIV in Burkina Faso
Background: Burkina Faso is one of the countries in West Africa most affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic, despite the implementation of a mother-to-child HIV transmission prevention program as a strategy to reduce the risk of vertical transmission of the disease. Objective: To assess the current risk of mother-to-child transmission of HIV in Burkina Faso.Materials and methods: A prospective study was conducted between December 2014 and July 2016, in the 13 health regions of Burkina Faso. Women who were screened HIV-positive during a prenatal consultation were followed until delivery. Their babies received dry blood spot (DBS) at birth, at week 6 and at 1year, to screen for HIV.Results: Overall, 186 pregnant women were included in the study, with a mean age of 29.17±6.13 years. Of their children, 430 DBS actually received a PCR test, giving a 91.1% PCR implementation rate. After analyses, 6 (1.3%) babies were identified as carriers of HIV1. The newborn’s serological status was associated with delivery pattern (p=0.000), the administration of antiretroviral drugs to the mother after delivery (p=0.0064), the administration of Nevirapine to the newborn at birth (p=0.022), the use of contraceptive methods after delivery (p=0.028) and the presence of breast affections/infections since delivery (p=0.013).Conclusion: The results of our study are encouraging and demonstrate the effectiveness of interventions in the mother-tochild prevention program (PMTCT) for HIV-positive pregnant women can be improved through early initiation of triple therapy in early pregnancy and improved adherence to antiretroviral (ARV) therapy. Keywords: Burkina Faso, HIV/AIDS, mother-to-child transmission, antiretroviral drugs, pregnant wome
