    ERROR LOGS FOR BETTER ENGLISH

    Get PDF
The objective of this study is to investigate the common errors of L2 learners in a Turkish university setting where they have to learn L2 and pass a B1 level exam in order to be faculty students. The study aims at identifying what types of errors the learners do, what the possible determining factors at the background are and how they can overcome these. The problem areas are analysed within 17 English paragraphs of 17 Turkish students. As Corder suggested (1974) sample collection, error identification, error description, error explanation, and error evaluation are the steps followed in this study. So, first, the errors were identified; then, the errors were explained and analysed. The analysis of the writings showed that errors commonly occurred in areas of lexis, grammar, syntax and were the results of the differences between L1 and L2. As a solution, error logs were used in order to have the learners be aware of the origins of the problem areas and after the error correction, drafting was done to reflect the improvements in their writings by trying to overcome the problem of L1 interference. Keywords: error, error correction, feedback, error log, L1 interferenc

A simple method to determine ductile fracture strain in a tensile test of plane specimen’s

    Get PDF
The ultimate ductile fracture strain determination method for the specimen of circular cross-section has been presented by FEM method. The state of stress in individual locations of tensile tested specimen in successive process phases has been determined unequivocally with the stress triaxiality k. It has been demonstrated that the plane specimen’s fracture strain value in the fracture location varies and depends on the state of stress, which is present in the final specimen’s tension phase. The ductile fracture strain values in various fracture locations for steel, copper and aluminum specimen have been experimentally determined and compared. The simple and practical method to determine this strain has been proposed

Cluster analysis for physical oceanographic data and oceanographic surveys in Turkish seas

    Get PDF
Cluster analysis is a useful data mining method to obtain detailed information on the physical state of the ocean. The primary objective of this study is the development of a new spatio-temporal density-based algorithm for clustering physical oceanographic data. This study extends the regular spatial cluster analysis to deal with spatial data at different epochs. It also presents the sensitivity of the new algorithm to different parameter settings. The purpose of the sensitivity analysis presented in this paper is to identify the response of the algorithm to variations in input parameter values and boundary conditions. In order to demonstrate the usage of the new algorithm, this paper presents two oceanographic applications that cluster the sea-surface temperature (SST) and the sea-surface height residual (SSH) data which records the satellite observations of the Turkish Seas. It also evaluates and justifies the clustering results by using a cluster validation technique

COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACT OF DIE DESIGN ON ITS LOAD AND DISTRIBUTION OF STRESS DURING EXTRUSION

    Get PDF
In the paper a numerical comparative analysis of stresses in a steel die compressed by a ring during the extrusion process was presented. In the research, three design solutions of the die were used. The solutions vary depending on the quotient of the wall thickness of the die insert and the wall thickness of the compression ring while maintaining a constant tool diameter. The stresses occurring in the areas of the ring and the die were calculated depending on the design version of the tool and the pressure value. The analysis was carried out for the quotients of the die wall thickness to the ring wall thickness of 0.57, 1 and 1.75 and three press-in values of 0.004, 0.008 and 0.016 mm. The conducted research allowed determining the impact of the die design and assembly interference on the load bearing capacity. It was discovered that the use of a die insert with a smaller thickness compared to the thickness of the compression ring was the most advantageous from the point of view of the circumferential stresses

The Investigation of the Effects of Plasma Treatment on the Dyeing Properties of Polyester/Viscose Nonwoven Fabrics

    Get PDF
AbstractIn this study, Polyester/Viscose (PET/CV) nonwoven fabrics were treated with oxygen plasma application. The plasma application was carried out for 1and 10minutes at low frequency. After then, the samples were dyed with disperse dyes. Where same samples were dyed with carriers, the others were dyed without carriers. Finally, the effects of plasma treatment on dyeing properties of PET/CV nonwoven fabrics were investigated at 3% darkness. The aim of this study is that the effect of hydrophility caused by the plasma application on dyeability properties of samples was investigated

Expansion And International Expansion Of Small-To Medium Sized Firms: The Role Of Finance

    Get PDF
Small- to medium-sized firms are expected to show international growth at an early stage.  Several factors may affect the outcome of initial efforts to expand and internationalize.  Our research examines how equity based venture funding affects SME expansion and internationalization.  We divide venture capital financing into two categories: incremental financing where firms receive their venture capital funding in portions and lump-sum venture funding where firms receive their funding in one lump-sum.    The results show that type of equity based venture capital financing affect expansion and internationalization.  Incremental funding appears more appropriate for firms with high growth rates whereas lump-sum financing appears more appropriate for firms that are internationalizing their operations.
