-Gaussian processes: non-commutative and classical aspects
We examine, for , -Gaussian processes, i.e. families of operators
(non-commutative random variables) -- where the fulfill
the -commutation relations a_sa_t^*-qa_t^*a_s=c(s,t)\cdot \id for some
covariance function -- equipped with the vacuum expectation
state. We show that there is a -analogue of the Gaussian functor of second
quantization behind these processes and that this structure can be used to
translate questions on -Gaussian processes into corresponding (and much
simpler) questions in the underlying Hilbert space. In particular, we use this
idea to show that a large class of -Gaussian processes possess a
non-commutative kind of Markov property, which ensures that there exist
classical versions of these non-commutative processes. This answers an old
question of Frisch and Bourret \cite{FB}.Comment: AMS-TeX 2.
A-Train Data Depot (ATDD)
ATDD is a web based tool which provides collocated data and display products for a number of A-train instruments Cloudsat, Calipso, OMI, AIRS, MODIS, MLS, POLDER-3, and ECWMF model data. Products provided include Clouds, Aerosols, Water Vapor, Temperatures and trace gases. All input data is online and in HDF4, HDF5 format. Display products include curtain images, horizontal strips, line plot overlays, and GE kmz files. Sample products are shown for two type of events. Hurricane event, Norbert, Oct 8, 2008 and a dust storm event over the Arabian Sea, Nov 13-14, 2008
A-Train Data Depot - Bringing Atmospheric Measurements Together
This paper describes the satellite data processing and services that constitute current functionalities of the A-Train Data Depot. We first provide a brief introduction to the original geometrical intricacies of the platforms and instruments of the A-Train constellation, and then proceed with description of our ATrain collocation processing algorithm that provides subsets that facilitate synergistic use of the various instruments. Finally, we present some sample image products from our web-based Giovanni tool which allows users to display, compare and download coregistered A-Train related data
A-Train Data Depot: Integrating and Exploring Data Along the A-Train Tracks
The immense potential for new science findings as a result of inter-instrument data analysis has led to the development of a new data portal at GSFC: the A-train Data Depot. The power and utility of this new service to the general public is amplified immensely when the archived data are used in conjunction with online data analysis services like Giovanni. This presentation details some of the challenges of data usage from multiple distinct missions and how the tool sets we have developed can help to overcome these challenges, considerably cut down on analysis overhead and promote science exploration in an otherwise very challenging arena

Trinity’s Lost Treasure: An Unexamined Gradual in Trinity University’s Special Collections
The Trinity University Special Collections contains an anonymous early Renaissance Gradual manuscript, gifted to the university by the estate of a well-traveled major donor. There is no other information regarding the bequest. The manuscript lacks archival tags and bibliographic records, and scholars outside the Trinity community are unaware of the item. As a result, the manuscript sits untouched.
Gradual manuscripts are records of historical liturgical practice, and also serve as reflections of local usage, allowing a glimpse into traditions that have long been lost. This project examines and catalogues the content of this resource and seeks to situate it through analysis of its contents, marginalia, physical condition and treatment, and liturgical associations. Comparison study of notation and script suggest a preliminary compilation date of approximately 1480-1520, in the early Renaissance. Marginalia and certain spellings locate the manuscript for at least a period of its existence in Spain, and the inclusion of certain chants indicates an association with the Dominican Order.
The initial transcription of the chants unique to this collection as well as digitization of its folios should encourage further research. While many details of this manuscript remain unexplored, this thesis enables information on this unattributed treasure to circulate in the academic world, so that the Trinity manuscript can be studied alongside and with reference to contemporary manuscripts worldwide
The impact of modality : how multimedia elements influence audience cognitive and emotional response to news stories
Professional project report submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Masters of Arts in Journalism from the School of Journalism, University of Missouri--Columbia.News organizations are equipped with more possibilities and resources to tell stories than ever before. As more news organizations create content for the digital audiences, reporters are able to add photos and video to enhance their online articles. While newsrooms are presented with numerous opportunities, they also face multiple challenges. Increased competition and diminishing budgets, make it essential for companies to prioritize spending. This online experiment seeks to aid media producers in understanding how different content affects audience response. By understanding which type of multimedia elements benefit the audience the greatest, newsrooms can efficiently allocate their resources. This study explored the effect of three modalities (text, photo and video) on audience’s understanding, emotions, attention, memory and interest in sharing. The experiment was distributed to individuals aged 18 to 30 years old in classes at the University of Missouri and through social media. The results conclude modality does have an effect on audiences’ cognitive and emotional response to content. The research revealed when video is paired with text participants had a higher emotional response and higher audience perception of understanding, but participants were less likely to recall information from stories that included text and video compared with stories just told through text.File types: pdfs, mp
