    A NEW METHOD OF ROBUST LINEAR REGRESSION ANALYSIS: SOME MONTE CARLO EXPERIMENTS

    This paper has elaborated upon the deleterious effects of outliers and corruption of dataset on estimation of linear regression coefficients by the Ordinary Least Squares method. Motivated to ameliorate the estimation procedure, it introduces the robust regression estimators based on Campbell's robust covariance estimation method. It investigates into two possibilities: first, when the weights are obtained strictly as suggested by Campbell and secondly, when weights are assigned in view of the Hampel's median absolute deviation measure of dispersion. Both types of weights are obtained iteratively and using those weights, two different types of weighted least squares procedures have been proposed. These procedures are applied to detect outliers in and estimate regression coefficients from some widely used datasets such as stackloss, water salinity, Hawkins- Bradu-Kass, Hertzsprung-Russell Star and pilot-point datasets. It has been observed that Campbell-II in particular detects the outlier data points quite well. Subsequently, some Monte Carlo experiments have been carried out to assess the properties of these estimators whose findings indicate that for larger number and size of outliers, the Campbell-II procedure outperforms the Campbell-I procedure.     ROBUST TWO�STAGE LEAST SQUARES: SOME MONTE CARLO EXPERIMENTS

    The Two�Stage Least Squares (2�SLS) is a well known econometric technique used to estimate the parameters of a multi�equation econometric model when errors across the equations are not correlated and the equation(s) concerned is (are) over�identified or exactly identified. However, in presence of outliers in the data matrix, the classical 2�SLS has a very poor performance. In this study a method has been proposed to generalize the 2�SLS to the Weighted Two�Stage Least Squares (W2�SLS), which is robust to the effects of outliers and perturbations. Monte Carlo experiments have been conducted to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method. It has been found that robustness of the proposed method is not much destabilized by the magnitude of outliers.     Water is the most precious commodity that human being wanted, nowadays water is depleting due to several human interventions. In Kerala state, even though high rainfall is received, still water scarcity is faced during summer and soil erosion is higher. This watershed area is prone to water scarcity during the summer season and stream network become dry during that period. This clearly indicates that human interventions and unscientific agricultural activities may be the result. In this, study GIS and RS technologies are used to find and map the Soil and water conservation priority zones, also several action Plans where proposed. SOI Topo sheet were used to digitize the contours and DEM was created using that with ArcGIS 10.2.2 software. LULC maps were digitized from satellite image and using other parameters and suitable weight values, the weighted overlay was done to find out the Priority Zones. Cadastral Plot boundaries were overlaid for plot-wise priority zones and several conservation methods like gully plugin, check dams, vegetation bund etc. were proposed

    Ayurvedic management of acute viral hepatitis: A case report

    Acute viral hepatitis (AVH) has resemblance with Kamala mentioned in Ayurveda. Kamala is a disease of the Raktavaha srotas(a system which includes liver, spleen, blood vessels, and reticuloendothelial tissue) and dominant of pitta dosha. Nitya virechana(regular use of mild laxative) and Pitta samana is the principles to treat the condition in Ayurveda. Here, we report the caseof a 20-year-old male diagnosed with AVH treated in accordance to the Ayurvedic principles reported, that is, Mridu virechana(regular use of mild laxatives), and Pitta samana. The total duration of the treatment including follow-up was 60 days. A completeremission of symptoms with a substantial reduction in bilirubin and hepatic enzymes observed following Ayurvedic treatment.Hence, presenting this case is an evidence to demonstrate the effectiveness of Ayurvedic treatment in AVH

    CoUIM: crossover user interface model for inclusive computing

    Persons with disabilities can face considerable challenges accessing many computing systems, such as cloud computing. We created six low-cost user interfaces using: keyboard-based, touchable, speech-based, touch-less gesture, tactile, and then combined them all in one user interface termed Crossover User Interface Model (CoUIM). We measured inclusiveness, error occurrence, user performance, and user satisfaction though an IRB approved study of twenty-nine participants. We chose Xen cloud platform to evaluate our research. We focused on three groups of users: persons with no disability, persons with blind and visually impairment (B/VI), and persons with motor-impairment. When we combined several interactions in one user interface, results improved for persons with disability. Using CoUIM improved inclusiveness, error rate, user performance and even user satisfaction. Persons with motor disability needed a little more time to complete the same tasks in our study. In particular, we show that persons with blind and visually impairment (B/VI) can compete on equal footing with their sighted peers based on error rate and time to complete the tasks using CoUIM

    In this paper, a three phase grid connected universal bridge inverter using a boost converter is suggested for photovoltaic (PV) systems and grid connected systems to improve performance of three phase inverter connected to the grid. The PV grid system has a disadvantage that the output voltage of PV array is low and we need to boost then in order to efficiently convert them into alternating voltage. The boost inductor boosts the output of the PV array to a suitable level so that inverter could convert it into alternating form. The DC/AC inverter is most important part of the PV system

Renal endothelial cells contribute to vascular tone, regulation of blood flow to local tissue beds, modulation of coagulation and inflammation, and vascular permeability.     Testing a theoretical prediction for bar formation in galaxies with bulges

    Earlier studies have shown that massive bulges impede bar formation in disk galaxies. Recent N-body simulations have derived a bar formation criterion that depends on the radial bulge force in a galaxy disk. We use those simulations to show that bars can form only when the force constant FB < 0.13, where FB depends on the ratio of the bulge force to the total force of the galaxy at twice the disk scale length 2R d . In this article, we test this theoretical prediction using observational data obtained from the literature. Our sample consists of 63 barred galaxies with a wide range of Hubble classes from the S 4 G catalogue for which bulge, disk and bar decomposition has been done. We find that 92 % of our sample galaxies satisfy the condition FB < 0.13 for bar formation in galaxies and hence agree with the bar formation criterion given by the simulations.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in A&

    Understanding Psycholinguistic Behavior of predominant drunk texters in Social Media

    In the last decade, social media has evolved as one of the leading platform to create, share, or exchange information; it is commonly used as a way for individuals to maintain social connections. In this online digital world, people use to post texts or pictures to express their views socially and create user-user engagement through discussions and conversations. Thus, social media has established itself to bear signals relating to human behavior. One can easily design user characteristic network by scraping through someone's social media profiles. In this paper, we investigate the potential of social media in characterizing and understanding predominant drunk texters from the perspective of their social, psychological and linguistic behavior as evident from the content generated by them. Our research aims to analyze the behavior of drunk texters on social media and to contrast this with non-drunk texters. We use Twitter social media to obtain the set of drunk texters and non-drunk texters and show that we can classify users into these two respective sets using various psycholinguistic features with an overall average accuracy of 96.78% with very high precision and recall. Note that such an automatic classification can have far-reaching impact - (i) on health research related to addiction prevention and control, and (ii) in eliminating abusive and vulgar contents from Twitter, borne by the tweets of drunk texters.Comment: 6 pages, 8 Figures, ISCC 2018 Workshops - ICTS4eHealth 201
