J1145-0033 - the most distant giant radio source?

We present J1145-0033, a candidate for the most distant (z=2.055) lobe-dominated giant radio quasar, with a projected linear size of 1.34 Mpc. This quasar has both FR II -- type radio morphology and broad absorption lines in its optical spectrum. Some physical characteristics (e.g. black hole mass, accretion rate, equipartition magnetic field, energy density and particle density of ambient medium) based on the optical and radio data are provided. We have also found that the quasar has a relatively large central black hole mass and a very small accretion rate in comparison with similar objects.Comment: 12 pages, 4 Postscript figure

Studying the highly bent spectra of FR II-type radio galaxies with the KDA EXT model

The KDA (Kaiser, Dennett-Thorpe & Alexander, 1997) EXT model, that is, the extension of the KDA model of FR (Faranoff & Riley) II-type source evolution, is applied and confronted with the observational data for selected FR II-type radio sources with significantly aged radio spectra. A sample of FR II-type radio galaxies with radio spectra strongly bent at their highest frequencies is used for testing the usefulness of the KDA EXT model. The dynamical evolution of FR II-type sources predicted with the KDA EXT model is briefly presented and discussed. The results are then compared to the ones obtained with the classical KDA approach, assuming the source's continuous injection and self-similarity. The results and corresponding diagrams obtained for the eight sample sources indicate that the KDA EXT model predicts the observed radio spectra significantly better than the best spectral fit provided by the original KDA model.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figure

You can get help in immediate vicinity from the emergency services during a fire, flood or other emergency assistance. Lifeguards can be divided into those who perform their duties professionally and those who are volunteers. Keep in mind that emergency services, such as nurses, fire brigade or mountain rescuers put their lives and health for the salvage of one’s wealth or life. Both residents and the authorities should be depend that in their area will be volunteer fire brigade, because they are often the first help. Quick response to the threat may lessen the damage. The aim of the article is to check whether municipalities in Poland provide adequate protection for firefighters, in particular by insurance. The question of whether local authorities provide sufficient protection for volunteer firefighters. As a consequence, it examines the legal basis to impose compulsory insurance firefighters. In the article analyzed the risks faced by different types of firefighter. It turns out that only a part of taking an active in rescue operations. The information collected compared with the insurance contracts concluded by the municipality. The study served insurance documents municipalities in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie districts aleksandrowski, inowrocławski and radziejowski

Laboratory diagnostics and pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis — the past and the present

    Get PDF
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is one of the most common systemic connective tissue diseases of autoimmune origin and is characterised by chronic inflammation of joints. The aetiology of this disease has not been fully understood yet. A crucial role in the development of RA is played by multiple genetic (shared epi-tope, HLA-DR genes, family predisposition) and environmental factors (smoking, female-specific factors, bacteria, viruses and mucosal inflammation, periodontal and lung diseases). The purpose of this article is to review the latest data on the pathogenesis of this disease and biomarkers used in the diagnostics of RA. RA is associated with the production of autoantibodies, among which rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-citrullinated protein (anti-CCP) antibodies are included in the new classification criteria of RA. So far, anti-CCP is the best marker of RA; its high sensitivity and specificity have been helpful in diagnostics and monitoring disease activity and the development of more aggressive disease, as well as the pharmacological treatment used. Recently, anti-carbamylated (anti-carP) antibodies and calprotectin have been described in RA, which also appears to be promising in the diagnostics of this disease

Speech recognition enables the transformation of spoken words and sentences into text in digital form. This technology is a subject of numerous studies and commercial development for many years. The aim of this paper is to examine performance issues of speech recognition and to manage the development in this field. Thorough analysis of performance limitations of speech recognition systems we identified main 11 issues to overcome. They indicate the direction of managing development of speech recognition systems.Rozpoznawanie mowy umożliwia przekształcanie wypowiadanych słów i zdań w tekst w formie cyfrowej.

Obraz pandemii w polskich i rosyjskich połączeniach wyrazowych

Since the beginning of 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has changed not only many aspects of everyday life, but also the lexical systems of languages. Polish and Russian have been enriched with numerous derivatives, loan words, as well as new collocations pretending to become neophrasemes. The linguistic image of the pandemic consists of miscellaneous metaphorical expressions picturing the reality in terms of war, sports’ competitions or natural disasters. New Polish and Russian collocations present different problems of the pandemic crisis and the diverse attitude of individuals and social groups to its threat to public health and the measures taken by governments and international institutions. Furthermore, the analyzed pandemic discourse contains many examples of intertextuality sensu lato. These are allusions to literary texts, music, film, and history. The image of the pandemic in Polish and Russian has been complemented by means of idiomatic transformations, humorous expressions and jokes, which are natural and spontaneous answers to long-lasting fear, anxiety and frustration.Since the beginning of 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has changed not only many aspects of everyday life, but also the lexical systems of languages. The author analyzes the different shades of meaning and the semantic valency of Polish and Russian adjectival derivatives with the suffix -liw- /-лив-. The words that are studied here exhibit an anthropocentric orientation as they principally describe natural human inclinations and collocate with personal nouns. Semantically impersonal adjectives are sparse among the analyzed lexemes in both languages

The essence of marriage is being widely discussed in the last few decades in many social circles and at many different levels. From the linguistic point of view it is usually characterised on the basis of man’s and woman’s roles in their relationship. The aim of the paper is to present the view of marriage in Polish, Russian and English proverbial phrases. For the purposes of the article about 350 Polish and Russian and about 300 English proverbs have been subjected to cognitive analysis. The research proves that the concept of marriage is roughly universal in all three languages and it presents definitely an androcentric perspective. Wives in proverbs are shown in a very unfavourable light as grouchy, quarrelsome, unfaithful and narrow-minded human beings. Marriage reflected in sayings is usually a burden which diminishes man’s happiness and may even lead to his sickness, fast aging and death. What is more, quite a lot of proverbial phrases in all three languages under study foster violence against women. The concept of marriage presented in proverbs is undoubtedly a reflection of the old way of thinking and the old system of values, but the preliminary research of anti-proverbs, i.e. more modern expressions, proves that it has not undergone any fundamental changes in the language awareness of the Polish, Russian and English native speakers. The essence of marriage is being widely discussed in the last few decades in many social circles and at many different levels.
