Multiwavelength Studies of Young OB Associations
We discuss how contemporary multiwavelength observations of young
OB-dominated clusters address long-standing astrophysical questions: Do
clusters form rapidly or slowly with an age spread? When do clusters expand and
disperse to constitute the field star population? Do rich clusters form by
amalgamation of smaller subclusters? What is the pattern and duration of
cluster formation in massive star forming regions (MSFRs)? Past observational
difficulties in obtaining good stellar censuses of MSFRs have been alleviated
in recent studies that combine X-ray and infrared surveys to obtain rich,
though still incomplete, censuses of young stars in MSFRs. We describe here one
of these efforts, the MYStIX project, that produced a catalog of 31,784
probable members of 20 MSFRs. We find that age spread within clusters are real
in the sense that the stars in the core formed after the cluster halo. Cluster
expansion is seen in the ensemble of (sub)clusters, and older dispersing
populations are found across MSFRs. Direct evidence for subcluster merging is
still unconvincing. Long-lived, asynchronous star formation is pervasive across

In Vitro Toxicity And Control Of Meloidogyne Incognita In Soybean By Rosemary Extract
The control of nematodes in plants can be challenging, and there is a need for alternative, environmentally conscious methods for their management. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of rosemary extract (Rosmarinus officinalis) on the in vitro toxicity and control of Meloidogyne incognita in CD 206 and CD 215 soybean cultivars. Using an in vitro assay, 500 M. incognita eggs per plate were observed for 15 days after incubation with rosemary extract at concentrations of 1%, 5%, and 10%. Soybean plants were studied under greenhouse conditions, and starting at V3 stage, were sprayed weekly with the same concentration of rosemary extract for 64 days. Three days after the first treatment, each soybean plant was inoculated with 1800 eggs and 400 second-stage juveniles (J2). At the end of this essay, number of eggs and J2 in the roots and soil, number of galls, and the reproduction factor (RF) were evaluated. Our results showed that in the in vitro assay, rosemary extract reduced the number of M. incognita eggs that hatched. Under greenhouse conditions, the CD 206 cultivar showed a 46.5% reduction in the number of galls, as well as fewer eggs in the soil and a lower RF. Similarly, in the CD 215 cultivar, the number of eggs was reduced and the RF was lower. These results indicate the potential for rosemary extract to control M. incognita in soybean crops.37110311
Asymptotics of the trap-dominated Gunn effect in p-type Ge
We present an asymptotic analysis of the Gunn effect in a drift-diffusion
model---including electric-field-dependent generation-recombination
processes---for long samples of strongly compensated p-type Ge at low
temperature and under dc voltage bias. During each Gunn oscillation, there are
different stages corresponding to the generation, motion and annihilation of
solitary waves. Each stage may be described by one evolution equation for only
one degree of freedom (the current density), except for the generation of each
new wave. The wave generation is a faster process that may be described by
solving a semiinfinite canonical problem. As a result of our study we have
found that (depending on the boundary condition) one or several solitary waves
may be shed during each period of the oscillation. Examples of numerical

Topological Andr\'e-Quillen homology for commutative -algebras was
introduced by Basterra following work of Kriz, and has been intensively studied
by several authors. In this paper we discuss it as a homology theory on CW
-algebras and apply it to obtain results on minimal atomic -local
-algebras which generalise those of Baker and May for -local spectra and
simply connected spaces. We exhibit some new examples of minimal atomic

Constraining the period of the ringed secondary companion to the young star J1407 with photographic plates
Context. The 16 Myr old star 1SWASP J140747.93-394542.6 (V1400 Cen) underwent
a series of complex eclipses in May 2007, interpreted as the transit of a giant
Hill sphere filling debris ring system around a secondary companion, J1407b. No
other eclipses have since been detected, although other measurements have
constrained but not uniquely determined the orbital period of J1407b. Finding
another eclipse towards J1407 will help determine the orbital period of the
system, the geometry of the proposed ring system and enable planning of further
observations to characterize the material within these putative rings. Aims. We
carry out a search for other eclipses in photometric data of J1407 with the aim
of constraining the orbital period of J1407b. Methods. We present photometry
from archival photographic plates from the Harvard DASCH survey, and Bamberg
and Sonneberg Observatories, in order to place additional constraints on the
orbital period of J1407b by searching for other dimming and eclipse events.
Using a visual inspection of all 387 plates and a period-folding algorithm we
performed a search for other eclipses in these data sets. Results. We find no
other deep eclipses in the data spanning from 1890 to 1990, nor in recent
time-series photometry from 2012-2018. Conclusions. We rule out a large
fraction of putative orbital periods for J1407b from 5 to 20 years. These
limits are still marginally consistent with a large Hill sphere filling ring
system surrounding a brown dwarf companion in a bound elliptical orbit about
J1407. Issues with the stability of any rings combined with the lack of
detection of another eclipse, suggests that J1407b may not be bound to J1407.Comment: 8 pages, 3 tables, 4 figures, accepted for publication in A&A. LaTeX

Matching matrix elements and shower evolution for top-quark production in hadronic collisions
We study the matching of multijet matrix elements and shower evolution in the
case of top production in hadronic collisions at the Tevatron and at the LHC.
We present the results of the matching algorithm implemented in the ALPGEN
Monte Carlo generator, and compare them with results obtained at the parton
level, and with the predictions of the MC@NLO approach. We highlight the
consistency of the matching algorithm when applied to these final states, and
the excellent agreement obtained with MC@NLO for most inclusive quantities. We
nevertheless identify also a remarkable difference in the rapidity spectrum of
the leading jet accompanying the top quark pair, and comment on the likely

Moment of Inertia and Quadrupole Response Function of a Trapped Superfluid
We derive an explicit relationship between the moment of inertia and the
quadrupole response function of an interacting gas confined in a harmonic trap.
The relationship holds for both Bose and Fermi systems and is well suited to
reveal the effects of irrotationality of the superfluid motion. Recent
experimental results on the scissors mode are used to extract the value of the
moment of inertia of a trapped Bose gas and to point out the deviations from
the rigid value due to superfluidity.Comment: 6 page
Exploring Large Digital Library Collections Using a Map-Based Visualisation
In this paper we describe a novel approach for exploring large document collections using a map-based visualisation. We use hierarchically structured semantic concepts that are attached to the documents to create a visualisation of the semantic space that resembles a Google Map. The approach is novel in that we exploit the hierarchical structure to enable the approach to scale to large document collections and to create a map where the higher levels of spatial abstraction have semantic meaning. An informal evaluation is carried out to gather subjective feedback from users. Overall results are positive with users finding the visualisation enticing and easy to use
