Effects of Gamma Irradiation on in Vitro Cultures of Selected Orchid Hybrids
Mutation breeding is an alternative strategy to conventional breeding.
The physical mutagen, gamma (y) radiation, has long been used in various
mutation breeding programmes. In this connection it is necessary to determine
the optimum dose before starting any mutation breeding programme.
In vitro cultured protocorm-like bodies (PLBs) of 2 orchid hybrids,
Mokara Chark Kuan and Dendrobium Jacky were used to study the effects of yirradiation
and to determine the optimum dose. The PLBs were irradiated with
y-rays at different doses of 0, 25, 50, 75, 100, 125 and 150 Grays (Gy) in Set I and 0, 20, 40, 60 and 80 Gy in Set II of the experiment. A senes of
observations on the effects of y-irradiation were recorded. Effects on genomic
DNA were also observed.
The present study showed that irradiation resulted in various degrees of
lethality to in vitro cultures of both Mokara Chark Kuan and Dendrobium
Jacky. Decrease in survival with increasing doses of y-irradiation was
significantly observed. Optimum dose of y-irradiation for in vitro cultures of
Mokara Chark Kuan and Dendrobium Jacky were estimated to be in the range
of 20-40 Gy and 60-70 Gy respectively.
Regeneration of plantlets was found to decline when higher irradiation
doses were applied. Irradiation also has inhibited regeneration of in vitro
cultures of both hybrids
THE COUNSELING AND TRAINING PROGRAM FOR TRADITIONAL CHICKEN FARMING OF KUB (KAMPUNG UNGGUL BALITBANGTAN) CHICKEN STRAIN AT TAFENA KUAN GROUP IN CAMPLONG II VILLAGE
The counseling and training program for traditional chicken farming of KUB (Kampung Unggul Balitbangtan) chicken strain had been done at Tafena Kuan group in Camplong II Village. The purpose of implementing this program is community empowerment in developing local poultry farming businesses in order to overcome food insecurity, reduce dependency on imported poultry commodities, and build community independence in providing good quality protein sources of food. This program was carried out from April to December 2020 at Tafena Kuan group, located in Camplong II village, Kupang Regency of East Nusa Tenggara province. The Tafena Kuan group has 22 members of chicken farmers. The community service team provided assistance in the form of six KUB chickens, chicken feed, vaccines, vitamins, and worm medicine to each farmer. The counseling and training had been followed by all farmers. Farmers of the Tafena Kuan group built chicken cages independently using local materials and started running a KUB chicken breeding intensively
Obituary: Kuan-Teh Jeang.
Dear colleagues: Our loyal friend Kuan-Teh Jeang, "Teh" to friends and colleagues, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 54 on the evening of January 27, 2013. Great shock and sorrow was apparent in the avalanche of email messages by the very many international colleagues with whom Teh interacted over the years. Many of us came to know Teh as an energetic and gifted scientist for whom we had much respect and affection.RIGHTS : This article is licensed under the BioMed Central licence at http://www.biomedcentral.com/about/license which is similar to the 'Creative Commons Attribution Licence'. 2013-2014 Master of Music Recital - Asako Furuoya (Oboe)

Book Review: Meeting of Minds: Intellectual and Religious Interaction in East Asian Traditions of Thought
Meeting of Minds: Intellectual and Religious Interaction in East Asian Traditions of Thought, a volume of eleven essays written in honor of Wing-tsit Chan and William Theodore de Bary, proposes to explore how Confucian and Neo-Confucian traditions have responded to and have influenced other traditions (Buddhist, Taoist, folk, Japanese nativist, and so on) in China and Japan. The essays are arranged first geographically (seven articles on China precede four on Japan) and then roughly chronologically. All essays, save one, describe Sung or post-Sung developments. A few sentences per essay must suffice in this review. [excerpt
Constraint-based stereo matching
The major difficulty in stereo vision is the correspondence problem that requires matching features in two stereo images. Researchers describe a constraint-based stereo matching technique using local geometric constraints among edge segments to limit the search space and to resolve matching ambiguity. Edge segments are used as image features for stereo matching. Epipolar constraint and individual edge properties are used to determine possible initial matches between edge segments in a stereo image pair. Local edge geometric attributes such as continuity, junction structure, and edge neighborhood relations are used as constraints to guide the stereo matching process. The result is a locally consistent set of edge segment correspondences between stereo images. These locally consistent matches are used to generate higher-level hypotheses on extended edge segments and junctions to form more global contexts to achieve global consistency
Predictability of Equity Models
In this study, we verify the existence of predictability in the Brazilian equity market. Unlike other studies in the same sense, which evaluate original series for each stock, we evaluate synthetic series created on the basis of linear models of stocks. Following Burgess (1999), we use the “stepwise regression” model for the formation of models of each stock. We then use the variance ratio profile together with a Monte Carlo simulation for the selection of models with potential predictability. Unlike Burgess (1999), we carry out White’s Reality Check (2000) in order to verify the existence of positive returns for the period outside the sample. We use the strategies proposed by Sullivan, Timmermann & White (1999) and Hsu & Kuan (2005) amounting to 26,410 simulated strategies. Finally, using the bootstrap methodology, with 1,000 simulations, we find strong evidence of predictability in the models, including transaction costspredictability, variance ratio profile, Monte Carlo simulation, reality check, bootstrap, technical analysis
