    The article aims to show similarities between the Surinamese fairy tales cultivated in oral form and improvised theater performances. An analysis, using poststructural and comparative methods, aims to compare the form and structure of two oral (literary and theatrical) performances, proving that irrespective of the (geographical, ethnic, aesthetic) roots of the emergence of both forms of art, the core and the order of specific elements during complex oral presentations is repeatable and depends on the needs of artists and recipients, which is successfully presented during the analysis. The material used contains a series of performances by improvised theater groups and a (written) record of oral performances by Suriname storytellers made by Willem Campagne.Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu wykazanie podobieństw między kultywowanymi w formie oralnej bajkami Surinamu oraz występami teatru improwizowanego. Wykorzystując metody poststrukturalistyczne oraz komparatystyczne, dokonano analizy formy i struktury dwóch wystąpieńoralnych (literackiego i teatralnego), dowodząc, iż niezależnie od korzeni powstania obydwu form sztuki (geograficznych, etnicznych, estetycznych) rdzeń oraz kolejność konkretnych elementów w trakcie złożonych wystąpień oralnych są powtarzalne i zależne od potrzeb artystów i odbiorców.     Interval Edge Coloring of Bipartite Graphs with Small Vertex Degrees

    An edge coloring of a graph G is called interval edge coloring if for each v ? V(G) the set of colors on edges incident to v forms an interval of integers. A graph G is interval colorable if there is an interval coloring of G. For an interval colorable graph G, by the interval chromatic index of G, denoted by ?\u27_i(G), we mean the smallest number k such that G is interval colorable with k colors. A bipartite graph G is called (?,?)-biregular if each vertex in one part has degree ? and each vertex in the other part has degree ?. A graph G is called (?*,?*)-bipartite if G is a subgraph of an (?,?)-biregular graph and the maximum degree in one part is ? and the maximum degree in the other part is ?. In the paper we study the problem of interval edge colorings of (k*,2*)-bipartite graphs, for k ? {3,4,5}, and of (5*,3*)-bipartite graphs. We prove that every (5*,2*)-bipartite graph admits an interval edge coloring using at most 6 colors, which can be found in O(n^{3/2}) time, and we prove that an interval edge 5-coloring of a (5*,2*)-bipartite graph can be found in O(n^{3/2}) time, if it exists. We show that every (4^*,2^*)-bipartite graph admits an interval edge 4-coloring, which can be found in O(n) time. The two following problems of interval edge coloring are known to be NP-complete: 6-coloring of (6,3)-biregular graphs (Asratian and Casselgren (2006)) and 5-coloring of (5*,5*)-bipartite graphs (Giaro (1997)).     Effect of elevated physical activity on changes in body composition and subcutaneous fat distribution in boys aged 10 to 16 years: a longitudinal study

    AbstrAct: The study is aimed at evaluation of the effect of regular physical activity on total and subcutaneous body fat and its distribution in boys aged 10 to 16 years. A three-year longitudinal study was carried out in order to monitor physical development in 237 boys from sports schools and regular schools in Warsaw, Poland. The boys were selected so that their rate of puberty changes was similar based on evaluation of voice and facial hair. The authors measured 5 skinfolds in the following sites: triceps, calf, subscapular, suprailiac, and abdominal skinfolds. The percentage fraction of total body fat in body mass was measured by means of Tanita TBF 300 electronic body composition analyser. A limb fat to trunk fat ratio (LF/TF) was also calculated in order to evaluate the type of distribution of subcutaneous fat in boys and monitor its changes as affected by regular high physical activity throughout puberty. Lower total body fat and subcutaneous fat in boys from sports schools was the effect of considerably higher physical activity. It was demonstrated that with some minimal values of total body fat and subcutaneous fat, physical activity did not cause a reduction in body fat. It was found that elevated physical activity in boys is conducive to development of a more limb-oriented (peripheral) fatness, which is more favourable to human health

    Diagnostic accuracy of liquid biopsy in endometrial cancer

    Background: Liquid biopsy is a minimally invasive collection of a patient body fluid sample. In oncology, they offer several advantages compared to traditional tissue biopsies. However, the potential of this method in endometrial cancer (EC) remains poorly explored. We studied the utility of tumor educated platelets (TEPs) and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) for preoperative EC diagnosis, including histology determination. Methods: TEPs from 295 subjects (53 EC patients, 38 patients with benign gynecologic conditions, and 204 healthy women) were RNA-sequenced. DNA sequencing data were obtained for 519 primary tumor tissues and 16 plasma samples. Artificial intelligence was applied to sample classification. Results: Platelet-dedicated classifier yielded AUC of 97.5% in the test set when discriminating between healthy subjects and cancer patients. However, the discrimination between endometrial cancer and benign gynecologic conditions was more challenging, with AUC of 84.1%. ctDNA-dedicated classifier discriminated primary tumor tissue samples with AUC of 96% and ctDNA blood samples with AUC of 69.8%. Conclusions: Liquid biopsies show potential in EC diagnosis. Both TEPs and ctDNA profiles coupled with artificial intelligence constitute a source of useful information.     ObjectivesThe aim of the study was to determine changes in the magnitude and direction of secular trends in body height, body weight, body mass index (BMI) and fat percentage in university students from a university of technology and a university of physical education in a period of 50 years.MethodsThe data were derived from the examinations of male students from the Warsaw University of Technology, conducted four times, in 1959, 1971, 1994, 2011, and male students from the Józef Piłsudski University of Physical Education in Warsaw, who were examined in 1963, 1972, 1996, and 2012. Body height, body weight and thickness of 2 skinfolds (triceps skinfold and abdomen skinfold) were measured. Body mass index (BMI) and fat percentage (FAT%) were also calculated.ResultsCurrent university students are taller and heavier than their peers from the previous decades, with BMI remaining within the reference range. A substantial increase in fat percentage was found in both groups. Over the period of fifty years, mean fat percentage in students from the university of technology increased by 6.3% (F1,3 = 116.56, p ConclusionChanges in secular trends in the students from both universities are likely to be linked to the dynamic economic and systematic transformation in Poland observed in the period of the last 50 years. The period of economic transformations in the last decade was more conducive to physical development of university students than the previous period of economic crises

    Somatotype and body composition of volleyball players and untrained female students – reference group for comparison in sport

    There is substantial evidence that somatotype and success in sport and physical performance are positively related. Existing somatotype data on athletes are useful as guidelines for sport selection and choice of training appropriate to the enhancement of desired somatotype characteristics. Updated somatotype data from non-athlete reference groups complement comparative analysis applied in assessing the effects of the training process and selection. The aim of this study was to determine the somatotype of untrained girls studying at Warsaw University of Technology in 2011, in order to create a current reference group for comparison, and to investigate the difference in body build of female volleyball players compared with the non-athlete group. Twelve Second Division female volleyball players (age 21.6±1.5 years, body height 177.3±6.2 cm, body mass 71.0±6.5 kg, training experience 8.4±3.4 years) and 150 female untrained students of the University of Technology in Warsaw (age 20.0±6.4 years, body height 166.5±6.4 cm, body mass 59.7±8.4 kg) participated in a study carried out in 2011. Somatotype was determined using the Heath-Carter method. The volleyball players were a little older and were significantly taller and heavier than female students (p<0.05). Significant differences between the groups were found in breadth of the elbow, breadth of the wrist, biacromial diameter, arm circumference and crus circumference (p<0.05). The mean somatotype of the volleyball players was 4.5-3.4-2.8. (4.5±1.0-3.4±1.2-2.8±1.3), whilst that of the untrained students was 5.1-3.6-2.8. (5.1±1.4-3.6±1.1-2.8±1.3); the groups did not differ significantly in somatotype. The groups were significantly different in body composition (F [kg] and LBM [kg]), as estimated by BIA and anthropometric methods (p<0.05). No differences were observed between the groups in the skinfolds. Morphological characteristics of the female volleyball players depended on the competition level and performance. Somatic features of the bodies of the volleyball players were dominated by the height of the body and the associated magnitude of the constituent characteristics

    The impact of skinfolds measurement on somatotype determination in Heath-Carter method.

    OBJECTIVES:The study aim was to determine if a difference exists in skinfold thickness measured by two interchangeable approaches; (1) supraspinale skinfold recommended in the Heath-Carter method and (2) iliac crest skinfold measurement. The question arises as to whether each approach has a similar or different effect on endomorphy determination, and whether there is a possibility to estimate the supraspinale skinfold based on other skinfold measurements. METHODS:A group of 186 male and 161 female students participated in this study. Anthropometric examination included all somatic measurements, as recommended in the Heath-Carter protocol, and the iliac crest skinfold measurement. Estimation of the supraspinale skinfold was performed based on the multiple linear regression procedure. RESULTS:Skinfold thickness measured in the supraspinale and iliac crest differed (p<0.001) in both men (5.41±1.65 mm and 9.55±4.05 mm, respectively) and women (8.87±4.08 mm and 15.20±6.85 mm), respectively. Endomorphy was significantly higher (0.46 in men, 0.63 in women) when the iliac crest skinfold was used. Subscapular skinfold and iliac crest skinfolds were included in the linear regression model for supraspinale skinfold estimation (R2 = 0.724, SE = 0.9 mm and R2 = 0.947, SE = 2.3 mm for men and women, respectively). CONCLUSION:Two common skinfold approaches produced different measurements between the supraspinale and iliac crest skinfolds, which subsequently affected estimated endomorphy. Regression equations for supraspinale skinfold enabled correction of endomorphy in the case of improperly applied measurement (i.e. iliac crest) and thus, could allow for uniform somatotype estimation according to Carter and Heath approach
