This article is devoted to the problem of translating science fiction. Such problems are usually determined by the fact that the texts of this genre are repleted with scientific terminology, descriptions of new technologies and their application. The world depicted in fantastic literature has a typical ontological status. In order to achieve the desired adequacy, the translator must demonstrate not only knowledge of the principles of fiction translation but also additional competencies. The material for the analysis comes from the novel Perfect imperfection by Jacek Dukaj is an example of science fiction literature, orientated to technological progress ideas. This novel can be studied in a multifaceted way. In this article, however, the research area has been narrowed down to some linguistic innovation and language games, which will be analyzed in the Polish-Russian translation aspect

Verifiable Coded Computation of Multiple Functions

We consider the problem of evaluating distinct multivariate polynomials over several massive datasets in a distributed computing system with a single master node and multiple worker nodes. We focus on the general case when each multivariate polynomial is evaluated over its corresponding dataset and propose a generalization of the Lagrange Coded Computing framework (Yu et al. 2019) to perform all computations simultaneously while providing robustness against stragglers who do not respond in time, adversarial workers who respond with wrong computation and information-theoretic security of dataset against colluding workers. Our scheme introduces a small computation overhead which results in a reduction in download cost and also offers comparable resistance to stragglers over existing solutions. On top of it, we also propose two verification schemes to detect the presence of adversaries, which leads to incorrect results, without involving additional nodes.Comment: 13 pages, 1 figure, 2 table

The article presents issues affecting the quality of translation. They are usually referred to as language and cultural barriers. Language barriers are most frequently connected with grammatical difficulties between languages while cultural barriers are understood as differences between languages resulting from the widely understood cultural differences. Occurrence of language barriers in translation leads to certain semantic shifts observed at many levels: axiological, pragmatic, cognitive, mental and others. The article also emphasises the fact that frequently translation problems start already in the mother tongue. They are caused by wrong interpretation of the meaning of a text or its fragment. In addition, using incorrect meaning of words, lack of language precision as well as stylistic and punctuation carelessness pose another problem

Między tradycją a nowoczesnością (?) : o dwóch tłumacz(eni)ach "Ożenku" Nikołaja Gogola

The article is devoted to two Polish translations of Marriage one of the best-known plays by Nikolai Gogol. Polish readers and audience have known the play owing to the translation (1937) of an outstanding poet Julian Tuwim. In his times this translation was considered to be very innovative. It can be seen as strong opposition not only to the translation tradition but also to the reader’s habits. In 2015 a new translation was ordered by the theatre and made by Agnieszka Lubomira Piotrowska — one of the best-known translators of Russian literature in Poland. As she claims her text was not updated, but she translated it in accordance with the rhythm and pace of the contemporary Polish language trying to preserve Gogol’s style
