The Menace Here to Stay, Better Not Take the Bait

In contemporary times, digital communiquĂ© platforms thriving on computer-mediated communication, have gained colossal currency, especially social media platforms or social networking sites. Due to the easy availability of the Internet and smart-phones at affordable prices and the germination of numerous social media platforms and digital spaces for interaction, communication via social networking sites, brimming with user-generated content, have metamorphosed the very way in which human communication used to transpire in the past. Today, on one single social media platform, we can witness, the convergence of other mass media platforms. However, unlike the traditional communication apparatus of the past, which had professional communicators conceptualizing, designing, disseminating and gate-keeping the content or message, the social media flourishes in a more or less, unrestricted freewheeling environment. On social media, the users of social media create the online content, irrespective of the level of communication skills and this content is then disseminated by the same users on their desired social media platform, completely uncensored and without any checks and/or balances. Second Generation Supraglottic Airway (SGA) Devices

Supraglottic Airways (SGAs) are an integral part of anaesthetic care. Since their introduction, several modifications, additions, and variations have been developed and are currently in clinical practice since the last 25 years. Not only are they useful for difficult ventilation during both in-hospital and out-of-hospital difficult airway management, they also act as a conduit for tracheal intubation. The newer or second-generation SGAs have been designed to provide a better seal of the airway and are relatively safer since they allow gastric aspiration. Thus, the SGAs may be the most versatile component in the airway management cart. Existing literature on SGAs tends to focus on first generation SGAs and their use in OT only. However, the scope and use of these devices is vast. Knowledge regarding specific devices and supporting data for their use is of utmost importance to patient’s safety. This chapter addresses various types of commercially available novel SGAs and their use in and out of hospital settings

A Conceptual Framework for Measuring Benefits of E-Governance

    Get PDF
E-Governance is about reform in governance, facilitated by the creative use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This leads to better access to information and quality services for citizens. Government invests large sums of money in implementing e-governance projects for benefiting the citizens. The main objective behind e-governance is to provide support and simplify governance for citizens. Therefore it is important to understand the types of benefits realized by citizens as a result of adopting e-governance services. The present paper discusses the benefits of e-governance by reviewing the previous studies done by various researchers. The researches on the benefits of e-governance in the contexts of various developing and developed countries are reviewed. Based on the review of prior research, a framework for categorizing the benefits of e-governance is proposed in the context of India, wherein four dimensions of benefits are identified i.e., Economic Benefits, Quality of Service (QoS) benefits, Quality of Governance (QoG) benefits and Personal Development. The scales for measuring these benefits are also proposed. The proposed framework can be used for empirically examining the extent of these benefits realized by the citizens and for studying the contribution of these benefits in the overall effectiveness of e-governance. INTRODUCTION: Establishing one’s identity is necessary for legal as well as humanitarian purpose. Sex determining is considered to be one of the major factors employed to assist for the identification of a person. Individual identification heavily relies on the quality of the dental records in the office.AIM: The purpose of this study was to assess the usefulness of the Mandibular Canine Index(MCI) as an aid in sexual dimorphism in Kanpur population using mesiodistal with intercanine distance of mandibular canines.MATERIALS AND METHOD: This was an experimental study involving the preparation of plaster casts of 200 males and females each residing in Kanpur, UP, India. Both the genders were in the age group of 17-30 years. The casts for study were prepared and measurements of mandibular canine along with intercanine distance were taken. The MCI calculations were done using standard equations. Statistical analysis used students’t-test. All values were considered statistically significant for value of p<0.05.RESULTS: The present study demonstrated that left MCI predictability for males is more whereas in case of females, right MCI predictability is more, with no significant variation in the intercanine distance.CONCLUSION: It was found out that mandibular canines exhibit maximum sexual dimorphism, hence, they can be considered as the key teeth for one’s identification

Aspects of secondary bonding intramolecular interaction in organomercury and organochalcogen derivatives

    Get PDF
Recent trends in the area of intramolecularly coordinated organomercury and organochalcogens derivatives are reviewed. Intramolecular coordination in organomercury derivatives facilitates the formation of mercurametallamacrocycle and leads to novel metal-metal interaction with closed shell ions. It also plays a key role in stabilizing telluroxanes as well as in the activation of chalcogen-carbon bonds

Stress detection and relief using wearable physiological sensors

The aim of the paper was to present a concept and to develop a prototype in the form of a cap which uses a combination of physiological sensors that work in concert to not only detect high stress levels in a person during his daily routine and working env ironment, but also initiate immediate relief measures. The parameters used to detect stress were compared with resting heart rate and brainwave activity to determine whether the person wearing the cap is in a stressed condition. Stress alleviation was achieved using Auditory Stimulation and a Scalp Massage. Early detection of stress and its immediate remedy or reduction can play an important role in preventing mental health disorders. In order to make the product cost effective, the concept of sensing optimum amount of data to trigger a remedial action was given more importance than extensive data collection using large number of sensors. Integrating an IOT device will further allow information to be recorded and transmitted to a caregiver/doctor to prescribe remedial action and thus prevent the condition to take a pathological form or get complicated. The detailed analysis of the collected data can help people identify the precipitating factors for stress and thus aims at reduction of stress related illnesses

Clinicopathological study of benign and malignant ovarian tumours and the role of HER2/neu and ER expression in these tumours

Background: Ovarian cancers represent the 6th most common cancer among females and are the most common cause of death from gynaecological cancers in the world. The aim is to do clinicopathologic study of ovarian tumours along with evaluation of the expression of estrogen receptor (ER) and human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER2/neu).Methods: A total of 85 cases of ovarian tumors were studied and immunohistochemistry was performed with specific antibodies against ER and HER2/neu as per standard protocol. Results: In present study, surface epithelial tumours were the commonest type comprising 64 cases (75.2%), followed by Germ cell tumours, 17cases (20%) and sex cord stromal tumours, 04 cases (4.8%).Among the surface epithelial tumours , ER‑positive cases were higher in malignant (71.4%) tumours as compared to borderline tumours (33.3%) and benign tumours (7.7%) while Her2/neu positive cases were higher in borderline (66.7%) tumours as compared to malignant tumours (42.9%) and benign tumours (15.3%).Among the germ cell tumours, ER expression was positive in 62.5% cases of mature teratoma while HER2/neu expression was positive in only 12.5% cases of mature teratoma. None of the sex cord stromal tumours showed positive expression of ER and HER2/neu.Conclusions: Positive expression of estrogen receptors is seen predominantly in surface epithelial malignancies and in mature teratoma. It proves the mitogenic role of estrogen in ovarian tumours. Her-2 neu was expressed mainly in malignant tumours. This suggests their carcinogenic role. This also helps in differentiating borderline and malignant tumours
