    Get PDF
Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign mixed tumor of major salivary gland. Ectopic occurrence of pleomorphic adenoma are seen in minor salivary glands of pharynx, trachea, larynx and very rarely in nasal septum. We report a case of 40 year old female who presented with right sided nasal mass and mild nasal obstruction since six months. Cytologically a possibility of pleomorphic adenoma was made which was confirmed by histopathological study. We present this case due to 1) rarity in the nasal septum 2) pitfalls at cytology due to abundance (predominance) of myoepithelial cells and scanty or even absent mesenchymal component and 3) under reporting in English literature to the best of our knowledge

An Experimental Study of Synthetic Jet Actuators with Application in Airfoil LCO Control

    Get PDF
An experimental study on the development and implementation of Synthetic Jet Actuators (SJAs) is conducted for eliminating aeroelastic phenomenon such as Limit Cycle Oscillations (LCO). One of the biggest challenges involved in the design of UAVs operating in unsteady atmosphere conditions is the susceptibility of the airframe to aeroelastic instabilities, such as flutter or LCO. Suppression of such instabilities can be achieved through the implementation of Active Flow Control (AFC) techniques, however to this day, a limited amount of experimental studies exist. Thus, the focus of this work is to develop a new AFC method consisting of an actuator that is directly instrumented in the internal volume of the airfoil. Due to the complex geometry of airfoil/actuator integration, advanced manufacturing technique has been employed for rapid manufacturing of these complex parts. In addition, a newly designed experimental test facility is fabricated to study the effect of the developed actuator on aerodynamic performance. Parametric analysis are conducted to investigate the effect of actuator along the airfoil surface, Reynolds number, and angle of attack. Results of this study demonstrated the actuator effectiveness on overall aerodynamic performance and show consistent trends with high-order Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

Simulation study of a kanban-controlled production system

Just-In-Time (JIT) has become one of the most popular production control philosophies in the last three decades. JIT did not find acceptance in the American companies until after the oil crisis. To be more flexible and to adapt quickly to changes in the market, many American companies took to the recourse of JIT and have been extremely successful. JIT systems typically employ kanbans as a means of inventory control. A JIT system operating under kanban control is commonly termed as a pull system due to the way in which succeeding stages trigger production at preceding stages. Owing to this close dependence of stages on a production line, the performance of a kanban controlled JIT system is sensitive to various kinds of stochasticity.;It was the aim of this thesis to characterize such inventory systems under different conditions. In particular, the research focused on kanban controlled feeder lines. Various design and operational parameters like number of kanbans, number of stages, number of product types assembled and processing time variability were studied. Metrics such as time-in-system, throughput, kanban waiting time, utilization, stockout and work-in-process were used to measure the performance of the system. A simulation model was constructed to model the system and to carry out the various experiments conducted as part of this research. It was observed that time in system was significantly affected by de number of kanbans, number of product types and the level of processing time variability at the stages. The analysis of work-in-process indicated that it was affected by the number (of kanbans, number of stages, number of product types and the level of processing time variability at the stages. The factors affecting stockout were the number of kanbans and the number of products. Kanban waiting times were impacted by the number of kanbans, number of stages, number of product types and the level of processing time variability

FluDen Primer DB-PCR Primer Database for Influenza A and Dengue Virus

    Get PDF
FluDen Primer Database (http://www.fludenpdb.com) has been designed and developed as a web application program to provide free access to the in-silico designed multiple potential primers for PCR detection and quantification assays for Influenza and dengue viruses. This program also permits user to submit sequence of their choice for primer design. The database contains primer records for Influenza and dengue viruses which cause infection in Humans. As of 2014 there are 142 primer sets for screening 32 genes/regions of Influenza and dengue viruses together. Application contain gene information, assay details such as oligonucleotide sequence, primer properties and reaction conditions, publication information. We have developed a resource, FluDen Primer DB which contains primer that can be used for PCR under provided amplification conditions for each primer pair. A distinguish feature of the FlueDen is the primers listed in DB are the products of PCR design application which are experimentally validated. Primers for the FluDen were designed using current genomic information available from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)

MICRO-MORPHOLOGICAL AND BIOCHEMICAL RESPONSE OF MUNTINGIA CALABURA L. AND IXORA COCCINIA L. TO AIR POLLUTION

The present study was carried out to assess the air pollution effects on micro morphological and biochemical parameters of Muntingia calabura and Ixora coccinia. In polluted area samples the number of stomata and unclogged stomata were found to be less then control, where as the number of clogged stomata are found to be higher in the polluted site when compared to control. The stomatal pore length and breadth were also found to be less in polluted area in both the plants when compared to control. The number of epidermal cells, trichome length values was found to be less then control in both the plants. While the trichome number was found to be less than control in Muntingia calabura and more then control in Ixora coccinia. The stomatal index in both the species is higher than the control. The amount of chl. a, chl. b, total chlorophyll content were found to be higher in control samples when compare to polluted samples. But relative water content, ascorbic acid, pH and air pollution tolerance index were found to be higher in polluted site samples when compare to control samples

Abstract: Adolescent and young people’s behavior is of major concern due to Substance abuse. According to WHO, Substance abuse is consistently or sporadic drug use inconsistent with or unrelated to acceptable medical practice. Globally, alcohol and tobacco as a risk factors cause 4.0% and 4.1% of the overall burden of disability respectively. Objective: To determine the prevalence of substance abuse among 18 to 60 years’ male in rural Etawah and to identify type and pattern of substance abuse. Material and Methods: It was a community based cross sectional study carried out in five block of district Etawah for a period of one and half year. 1500 participants were interviewed using pre designed pre-tested questionnaire and data regarding socio demographic profile and pattern of abuse were collected. Data was entered in Microsoft excel sheet and analyzed by SPSS version 24 using appropriate statistical test. Result: Among 1500 participants, majority were below 30 years of age (i.e. 42.8%). In this study prevalence of Substance use among was 47% [707/1500]. Among all the other substance use, smokeless tobacco showed highest prevalence. Conclusion: Substance use is common in both urban as well as in rural area. So there is a need to educate and aware people regarding bad effects of drug abuse

Alzheimer’s detection through neuro imaging and subsequent fusion for clinical diagnosis

    Get PDF
In recent years, vast improvement has been observed in the field of medical research. Alzheimer's is the most common cause for dementia. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a chronic disease with no cure, and it continues to pose a threat to millions of lives worldwide. The main purpose of this study is to detect the presence of AD from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans through neuro imaging and to perform fusion process of both MRI and positron emission tomography (PET) scans of the same patient to obtain a fused image with more detailed information. Detection of AD is done by calculating the gray matter and white matter volumes of the brain and subsequently, a ratio of calculated volume is taken which helps the doctors in deciding whether the patient is affected with or without the disease. Image fusion is carried out after preliminary detection of AD for MRI scan along with PET scan. The main objective is to combine these two images into a single image which contains all the possible information together. The proposed approach yields better results with a peak signal to noise ratio of 60.6 dB, mean square error of 0.0176, entropy of 4.6 and structural similarity index of 0.8
