The Polarised Valence Quark Distribution from semi-inclusive DIS

    The semi-inclusive difference asymmetry A^{h^{+}-h^{-}} for hadrons of opposite charge has been measured by the COMPASS experiment at CERN. The data were collected in the years 2002-2004 using a 160 GeV polarised muon beam scattered off a large polarised ^6LiD target and cover the range 0.006 < x < 0.7 and 1 < Q^2 < 100 (GeV/c)^2. In leading order QCD (LO) the asymmetry A_d^{h^{+}-h^{-}} measures the valence quark polarisation and provides an evaluation of the first moment of Delta u_v + Delta d_v which is found to be equal to 0.40 +- 0.07 (stat.) +- 0.05 (syst.) over the measured range of x at Q^2 = 10 (GeV/c)^2. When combined with the first moment of g_1^d previously measured on the same data, this result favours a non-symmetric polarisation of light quarks Delta u-bar = - Delta d-bar at a confidence level of two standard deviations, in contrast to the often assumed symmetric scenario Delta u-bar = Delta d-bar = Delta s-bar = Delta s.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, COMPASS, revised: details added, author list update

The measurement is performed for J/ψ mesons with a transverse momentum of less than 10 GeV/c in the rapidity range 2.0 < y < 4.5. The production cross-section is measured to be 15.2 ± 1.0 ± 0.9 nb. The first uncertainty is statistical, and the second is systematic. A study of CP violation in B-+/- -> DK +/- and B-+/- -> D pi(+/-) decays with D -> (KSK +/-)-K-0 pi(-/+) final states

    A first study of CP violation in the decay modes B±[KS0K±π]Dh±B^\pm\to [K^0_{\rm S} K^\pm \pi^\mp]_D h^\pm and B±[KS0Kπ±]Dh±B^\pm\to [K^0_{\rm S} K^\mp \pi^\pm]_D h^\pm, where hh labels a KK or π\pi meson and DD labels a D0D^0 or D0\overline{D}^0 meson, is performed. The analysis uses the LHCb data set collected in pppp collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb1^{-1}. The analysis is sensitive to the CP-violating CKM phase γ\gamma through seven observables: one charge asymmetry in each of the four modes and three ratios of the charge-integrated yields. The results are consistent with measurements of γ\gamma using other decay modes

    A search for the rare decays Bs0→μ+μ- and B0→μ+μ- is performed at the LHCb experiment using data collected in pp collisions corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 4.4  fb-1. An excess of Bs0→μ+μ- decays is observed with a significance of 7.8 standard deviations, representing the first observation of this decay in a single experiment. The branching fraction is measured to be B(Bs0→μ+μ-)=(3.0±0.6-0.2+0.3)×10-9, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The first measurement of the Bs0→μ+μ- effective lifetime, τ(Bs0→μ+μ-)=2.04±0.44±0.05  ps, is reported. No significant excess of B0→μ+μ- decays is found, and a 95% confidence level upper limit, B(B0→μ+μ-)<3.4×10-10, is determined. All results are in agreement with the standard model expectations.A search for the rare decays Bs0μ+μB^0_s\to\mu^+\mu^- and B0μ+μB^0\to\mu^+\mu^- is performed at the LHCb experiment using data collected in pppp collisions corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 4.4 fb1^{-1}. The associated production of a Z boson or an off-shell photon γ\gamma^* with a bottom quark in the forward region is studied using proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7TeV7{\mathrm{\,Te\kern -0.1em V}}. Search for CP violation using T-odd correlations in D-0 -> K+K-pi(+)pi(-) decays

    Get PDF
    A search for CPCP violation using TT-odd correlations is performed using the four-body D0K+Kπ+πD^0 \to K^+K^-\pi^+\pi^- decay, selected from semileptonic BB decays. The data sample corresponds to integrated luminosities of 1.0fb11.0\,\text{fb}^{-1} and 2.0fb12.0\,\text{fb}^{-1} recorded at the centre-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV, respectively. The CPCP-violating asymmetry aCPT-odda_{CP}^{T\text{-odd}} is measured to be (0.18±0.29(stat)±0.04(syst))%(0.18\pm 0.29\text{(stat)}\pm 0.04\text{(syst)})\%. Searches for CPCP violation in different regions of phase space of the four-body decay, and as a function of the D0D^0 decay time, are also presented. No significant deviation from the CPCP conservation hypothesis is found

    Measurement of CPCP asymmetries and polarisation fractions in Bs0K0Kˉ0B_s^0 \rightarrow K^{*0}\bar{K}{}^{*0} decays

    An angular analysis of the decay Bs0K0K0B_s^0 \rightarrow K^{*0}\overline{K}{}^{*0} is performed using pppp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.01.0 fb1{fb}^{-1} collected by the LHCb experiment at a centre-of-mass energy s=7\sqrt{s} = 7 TeV. A combined angular and mass analysis separates six helicity amplitudes and allows the measurement of the longitudinal polarisation fraction fL=0.201±0.057(stat.)±0.040(syst.)f_L = 0.201 \pm 0.057 {(stat.)} \pm 0.040{(syst.)} for the Bs0K(892)0K(892)0B_s^0 \rightarrow K^*(892)^0 \overline{K}{}^*(892)^0 decay. A large scalar contribution from the K0(1430)K^{*}_{0}(1430) and K0(800)K^{*}_{0}(800) resonances is found, allowing the determination of additional CPCP asymmetries. Triple product and direct CPCP asymmetries are determined to be compatible with the Standard Model expectations. The branching fraction B(Bs0K(892)0K(892)0)\mathcal{B}(B_s^0 \rightarrow K^*(892)^0 \overline{K}^*(892)^0) is measured to be (10.8±2.1(stat.)±1.4(syst.)±0.6(fd/fs))×106(10.8 \pm 2.1 {(stat.)} \pm 1.4 {(syst.)} \pm 0.6 (f_d/f_s) ) \times 10^{-6}
