Measuring the Spin of the Higgs Boson
By studying the threshold dependence of the excitation curve and the angular
distribution in Higgs-strahlung at e+e- colliders, e+e- -> HZ, the spin of the
Higgs boson in the Standard Model and related extensions can be determined
unambiguously in a model-independent way.Comment: 10 pages, 1 Postscript figure, sign typo correcte
Inelastic J/psi Photoproduction
Inelastic photoproduction of particles at high energies is one of
the processes to determine the gluon distribution in the nucleon. We have
calculated the QCD radiative corrections to the color-singlet model of this
reaction. They are large at moderate photon energies, but decrease with
increasing energies. The cross section and the energy spectrum are
compared with the available fixed-target photoproduction data and predictions
are given for the HERA energy range.Comment: 14 pages, latex, 7 uuencoded figure
Anomalous couplings in the Higgs-strahlung process
The angular distributions in the Higgs-strahlung process are uniquely determined in the Standard Model. We study how these
predictions are modified if non-standard couplings are present in the
vertex, as well as lepton-boson contact terms. We restrict ourselves to the set
of operators which are singlets under standard
transformations, CP conserving, dimension 6, helicity conserving, and custodial
conserving.Comment: 8 pages, LaTeX2e, 5 figure
Production of MSSM Higgs Bosons in Photon-Photon Collisions
The heavy neutral Higgs bosons H, A in the minimal supersymmetric extension
of the Standard Model can be produced as single resonances at high-energy gamma
gamma colliders. We have studied the prospects of the search for these
particles in b\bar b and neutralino-pair final states. The Higgs bosons can be
found with masses up to 70-80% of the initial e^\pm e^- collider energy for
medium values of tan(beta), i.e. in areas of the supersymmetric parameter space
not accessible at other colliders.Comment: 9 pages, latex, 3 figure
Effect of a Domain Wall on the Conductance Quantization in a Ferromagnetic Nanowire
The effect of the domain wall (DW) on the conductance in a ballistic
ferromagnetic nanowire (FMNW) is revisited by exploiting a specific
perturbation theory which is effective for a thin DW; the thinness is often the
case in currently interested conductance measurements on FMNWs. Including the
Hund coupling between carrier spins and local spins in a DW, the conductance of
a FMNW in the presence of a very thin DW is calculated within the
Landauer-B\"{u}ttiker formalism. It is revealed that the conductance plateaus
are modified significantly, and the switching of the quantization unit from
to ``about '' is produced in a FMNW by the introduction of a
thin DW. This accounts well for recent observations in a FMNW.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, Corrected typos and added reference
Non-Perturbative QCD Treatment of High-Energy Hadron-Hadron Scattering
Total cross-sections and logarithmic slopes of the elastic scattering
cross-sections for different hadronic processes are calculated in the framework
of the model of the stochastic vacuum. The relevant parameters of this model, a
correlation length and the gluon condensate, are determined from scattering
data, and found to be in very good agreement with values coming from completely
different sources of information. A parameter-free relation is given between
total cross-sections and slope parameters, which is shown to be remarkably
valid up to the highest energies for which data exist.Comment: 60 pages, Heidelberg preprin
Upper critical field for underdoped high-T_c superconductors. Pseudogap and stripe--phase
We investigate the upper critical field in a stripe--phase and in the
presence of a phenomenological pseudogap. Our results indicate that the
formation of stripes affects the Landau orbits and results in an enhancement of
. On the other hand, phenomenologically introduced pseudogap leads to a
reduction of the upper critical field. This effect is of particular importance
when the magnitude of the gap is of the order of the superconducting transition
temperature. We have found that a suppression of the upper critical field takes
place also for the gap that originates from the charge--density waves.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
Stability of metallic stripes in the extended one-band Hubbard model
Based on an unrestricted Gutzwiller approximation (GA) we investigate the
stripe orientation and periodicity in an extended one-band Hubbard model. A
negative ratio between next-nearest and nearest neighbor hopping t'/t, as
appropriate for cuprates, favors partially filled (metallic) stripes for both
vertical and diagonal configurations. At around optimal doping diagonal
stripes, site centered (SC) and bond centered (BC) vertical stripes become
degenerate suggesting strong lateral and orientational fluctuations. We find
that within the GA the resulting phase diagram is in agreement with experiment
whereas it is not in the Hartree-Fock approximation due to a strong
overestimation of the stripe filling. Results are in agreement with previous
calculations within the three-band Hubbard model but with the role of SC and BC
stripes interchanged.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figure
Decomposition of the QCD String into Dipoles and Unintegrated Gluon Distributions
We present the perturbative and non-perturbative QCD structure of the
dipole-dipole scattering amplitude in momentum space. The perturbative
contribution is described by two-gluon exchange and the non-perturbative
contribution by the stochastic vacuum model which leads to confinement of the
quark and antiquark in the dipole via a string of color fields. This QCD string
gives important non-perturbative contributions to high-energy reactions. A new
structure different from the perturbative dipole factors is found in the
string-string scattering amplitude. The string can be represented as an
integral over stringless dipoles with a given dipole number density. This
decomposition of the QCD string into dipoles allows us to calculate the
unintegrated gluon distribution of hadrons and photons from the dipole-hadron
and dipole-photon cross section via kT-factorization.Comment: 43 pages, 14 figure
A Phenomenological Analysis of Gluon Mass Effects in Inclusive Radiative Decays of the and $\Upsilon
The shapes of the inclusive photon spectra in the processes \Jp \to \gamma
X and \Up \to \gamma X have been analysed using all available experimental
data.
Relativistic, higher order QCD and gluon mass corrections were taken into
account in the fitted functions. Only on including the gluon mass corrections,
were consistent and acceptable fits obtained. Values of
GeV and GeV were found for the
effective gluon masses (corresponding to Born level diagrams) for the \Jp and
\Up respectively. The width ratios \Gamma(V \to {\rm hadrons})/\Gamma(V \to
\gamma+ {\rm hadrons}) V=\Jp, \Up were used to determine and . Values consistent with the current world
average were obtained only when gluon mass correction factors,
calculated using the fitted values of the effective gluon mass, were applied. A
gluon mass GeV, as suggested with these results, is consistent with
previous analytical theoretical calculations and independent phenomenological
estimates, as well as with a recent, more accurate, lattice calculation of the
gluon propagator in the infra-red region.Comment: 50 pages, 11 figures, 15 table
