    Perceptions of active zumba members regarding the concept of "zumba": A metaphor analysis study: Aktif zumbaya katılan üyelerin “zumba” kavramına ilişkin algıları: Bir metafor analizi çalışması

    The purpose of this research is to determine the perceptions of the members participating in active zumba about the concept of "Zumba" with the help of metaphor. The research group consisted of 94 volunteers living in Ankara (age = 32.57 ± 9.91 years) and doing active zumba in various gyms. In the research, as a data collection tool, a "metaphor form" was prepared to determine the participants' perceptions about the concept of zumba. The research data were collected with the metaphor form sentence is written "Zumba is like …; because…. ” As the metaphors obtained in the research are used as a descriptive tool, one of the qualitative research approaches; content analysis was used.For the reliability of the analysis of the research data, the reliability coefficient between the participants was calculated and this value was found to be 97%. When the data were evaluated, it was determined that active zumba participant members produced a total of 35 metaphors.These metaphors were collected in 5 categories. While it was determined that the participants mostly developed metaphors related to the concept of zumba in the categories of "pleasure" and "feeling of happiness", these categories were followed by "health", "psychological benefit" and "socialization". The metaphors most produced by the participants are listed as entertainment, dance, chocolate, sports, lifestyle and life energy. As a result; in research for the concept of "zumba" of the participants; it has been determined that they use living, inanimate, abstract and concrete metaphors.   Özet   Bu araştırmanın amacı, aktif zumbaya katılan üyelerin ‘Zumba’ kavramına ilişkin sahip oldukları algıları metafor yardımıyla belirlenmesidir. Araştırma grubunu Ankara’da yaşayan (yaş = 32,57±9,91 yıl) çeşitli spor salonlarında aktif zumba yapan 94 gönüllü oluşturmuştur. Araştırma da veri toplama aracı olarak katılımcılara zumba kavramına ilişkin sahip oldukları algılarını belirlemek için “metafor formu” hazırlanmıştır. Araştırma verileri “Zumba…gibidir, Çünkü…”cümlesinin yazılı olduğu metafor formuyla toplanmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen metaforlar bir betimleme aracı olarak kullanıldığından nitel araştırma yaklaşımlarından içerik analizi kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verilerinin analizinin güvenirliği için katılımcılar arası güvenirlik kat sayısı hesaplanmış ve bu değer %97 olarak bulunmuştur. Veriler değerlendirildiğinde, aktif zumba katılımcısı üyelerinin toplam 35 metafor ürettiği görülmüştür. Üretilen bu metaforlar 5 kategoride toplanmıştır. Katılımcıların zumba kavramına ilişkin en çok “haz” ve “mutluluk hissi” kategorisinde metaforlar geliştirdikleri belirlenirken, bu kategorileri “sağlık”, “psikolojik fayda” ve “sosyalleşme” kategorileri izlemiştir. Katılımcıların en fazla ürettiği metaforlar eğlence, dans, çikolata, spor, yaşam biçimi ve hayat enerjisi şeklinde sıralanmıştır. Sonuç olarak; araştırmada katılımcıların “zumba” kavramı için; canlı, cansız, soyut ve somut metaforlar kullandıkları belirlenmiştir

    Persistently Elevated Right Ventricular Index of Myocardial Performance in Preterm Infants with Incipient Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia

    OBJECTIVES: Elevated pulmonary vascular resistance occurs during the first days after birth in all newborn infants and persists in infants at risk for bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). It is difficult to measure in a non-invasive fashion. We assessed the usefulness of the right ventricular index of myocardial performance (RIMP) to estimate pulmonary vascular resistance in very low birth weight infants. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective echocardiography on day of life (DOL) 2, 7, 14, and 28 in 121 preterm infants (median [quartiles] gestational age 28 [26]-[29] weeks, birth weight 998 [743-1225] g) of whom 36 developed BPD (oxygen supplementation at 36 postmenstrual weeks). RESULTS: RIMP derived by conventional pulsed Doppler technique was unrelated to heart rate or mean blood pressure. RIMP on DOL 2 was similar in infants who subsequently did (0.39 [0.33-0.55]) and did not develop BPD (0.39 [0.28-0.51], p = 0.467). RIMP declined steadily in non-BPD infants but not in BPD infants (DOL 7: 0.31[0.22-0.39] vs. 0.35[0.29-0.48], p = 0.014; DOL 14: 0.23[0.17-0.30] vs. 0.35[0.25-0.43], p<0.001; DOL 28: 0.21[0.15-0.28] vs. 0.31 [0.21-0.35], p = 0.015). CONCLUSIONS: In preterm infants, a decline in RIMP after birth was not observed in those with incipient BPD. The pattern of RIMP measured in preterm infants is commensurate with that of pulmonary vascular resistance

    Inactividad y estrés provocados por la pandemia COVID-19: ¿Cuál es la situación de los estudiantes universitarios?

    The purpose of this study is to examine the physical activity levels of the before and during the pandemic, and the styles of coping with stress according to their physical activity levels, and the styles of coping with stress during the pandemic process according to gender of students Faculty of Sports Sciences. The research group of the study consists of 401 volunteer students (175 female; 206 male). The data were collected used the “International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF)”, and the “Ways of Coping Questionnaire” and personal information form. In the analysis of data; t test was used in pairwise comparisons and ANOVA test was used in multiple comparisons. According to the analysis results; During the Covid-19 pandemic, the physical activity rate decreased in both female and male students compared to the pre-pandemic period, and the physical activity level showed a significant difference in favor of male students according to the total MET score during the pandemic period. All students used the "confident approach" style the highest and the "submissive approach" the least in their coping styles; It was determined that girls used the submissive approach more than boys. A significant difference was found in the sub-dimensions of self-confident, helpless and optimistic approach according to physical activity levels. As a result, it can be said that the way of coping with stress of students with a high level of physical activity also affects positively. In this context, physical activity and exercise can be recommended to students in coping with stress.El propósito de este estudio es examinar los niveles de actividad física del antes y durante la pandemia, y los estilos de afrontamiento del estrés según sus niveles de actividad física, y los estilos de afrontamiento del estrés durante el proceso pandémico según el género de los estudiantes. Facultad de Ciencias del Deporte. El grupo de investigación del estudio está formado por 401 estudiantes voluntarios (175 mujeres; 206 hombres). Los datos fueron recolectados utilizando el “Cuestionario Internacional de Actividad Física-Formulario Corto” y el “Cuestionario de Maneras de Afrontamiento”. En el análisis de datos; La prueba t se utilizó en comparaciones por pares y la prueba ANOVA se utilizó en comparaciones múltiples. Según los resultados del análisis; Durante la pandemia de Covid-19, la tasa de actividad física disminuyó tanto en estudiantes femeninos como masculinos en comparación con el período prepandémico, y el nivel de actividad física mostró una diferencia significativa a favor de los estudiantes masculinos según la puntuación MET total durante el período pandémico. . Todos los estudiantes usaron el estilo de "enfoque seguro" el más alto y el "enfoque sumiso" el menos en sus estilos de afrontamiento. Se encontró una diferencia significativa en las subdimensiones de enfoque seguro, indefenso y optimista según los niveles de actividad física. Como resultado, se puede decir que la forma de afrontar el estrés de los alumnos con un alto nivel de actividad física también incide positivamente. En este contexto, se puede recomendar a los estudiantes la actividad física y el ejercicio para hacer frente al estrés

    How effective are physical activity and basal metabolic rate values on sports sciences special ability test track scores?

    Calculation of daily energy consumption is used as a criterion in determining the level of physical activity (PA) which has a complex structure. Basal metabolic rate (BMR) constitutes one of the main parts of energy expenditure. In the present study, primarily it was aimed to determine the FA levels and BMR values of the candidates who took the attitude talent exam (ability track) of the Faculty of Sports Sciences during the exam preparation period. Secondarily, the effect of these determined values on the track scores (TS) was examined. The sample group of the study consisted of 279 volunteer candidates (105 women; 174 men) who participated in the Special Attitude Test (Ability Track) of the Faculty of Sports Sciences. International Physical Activity Questionnaire–Short Form (IPAQ-SF) and demographic information form were used as data collection tools. BMR values of the participants were calculated according to the Harris-Benedict formula using age, body weight and height data. In addition, body mass index (BMI) of the candidates were determined. The TS of the candidates participating in the ability track were recorded and correlated with their PA level and BMR values. SPSS 23.0 statistical package software was used in the analysis of the obtained data. Regression analysis was used to determine the effect of PA level and BHM on TS and BMI. According to the study results, it has been determined that BMR has a statistically significant effect on TS and BMI (p<0,05). While BMR data of female and male candidates were found to affect BMI statistically (p<0,05), PA level was not.     Reasons for selecting the teaching profession with teacher identity of physical education teacher candidates

    Bu çalışmanın amacı, beden eğitimi öğretmen adaylarının, meslek öncesi öğretmen kimliği ile öğretmenlik mesleğini tercih etme nedenlerini cinsiyet, öğrenim gördükleri sınıf düzeyi, genel akademik not ortalaması değişkenlerine göre incelemek ve birbirleri arasındaki ilişkiyi ortaya koymaktır. Çalışmanın araştırma grubunu, Erciyes Üniversitesi Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Yüksekokulu’nda 167, Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey Üniversitesi Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Yüksekokulu’nda 101, Gazi Üniversitesi Spor Bilimleri Fakültesi’nde 97 olmak üzere toplam 365 beden eğitimi öğretmen adayı oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak, Övet (2006) tarafından geliştirilen “Öğretmenlik Mesleğini Tercih Etme Nedenleri Ölçeği”, Arpacı ve Bardakçı (2015) tarafından Türkçe uyarlaması yapılan “Meslek Öncesi Öğretmen Kimliği Ölçeği (MÖÖK)" ve kişisel bilgi formu kullanılmıştır. Araştırma ilişkisel tarama modelindedir. Verilerin analizinde; veriler normal dağılım gösterdiği için ikili karşılaştırmalarda t-testi, çoklu karşılaştırmalarda ANOVA ve değişkenler arası ilişkiyi incelemek için Pearson korelasyon katsayısı kullanılmıştır. Beden eğitimi öğretmen adaylarının mesleği tercih etme nedenleri puan ortalaması (X=3.34±.59) ve meslek öncesi öğretmen kimliği puan ortalaması (X=3.94±.78) orta düzeyin üzerinde bulunmuştur. Öğretmen adaylarının cinsiyetlerine göre, öğretmenlik mesleğinin tercih edilmesinde etkili olan “bilinç” alt boyutunda ve meslek öncesi öğretmen kimliğinde “sınıflama”, “güven”, “katılım” alt boyutlarında ve ölçek toplamında kadın öğretmen adayları lehine anlamlı farklılıklar bulunmuştur. Öğretmen adaylarının öğrenim gördükleri sınıflara göre, öğretmenlik mesleğini tercih etme nedenleri ve meslek öncesi öğretmen kimliği bakımından istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmamıştır. Akademik başarıya göre incelendiğinde, öğretmenlik mesleğinin tercih edilmesinde etkili olan “ideal”, ve “bilinç” alt boyutunda, meslek öncesi öğretmen kimliğinde “kendine güvenme”, “katılımcı öğretmen” ve ölçek toplamında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı farlılıklar bulunmuştur. Beden eğitimi öğretmen adaylarının meslek öncesi öğretmen kimliği ile mesleği tercih etme nedenlerinde etkili olan “ideal” ve “bilinç” alt boyutlarında pozitif yönde ilişkiler tespit edilirken, “etkilenme” alt boyutunda negatif yönde ilişkiler tespit edilmiştir. Mesleği tercih etmede etkili olan içsel faktörlerin öğretmen kimliğini olumlu yönde etkilediği, dışsal faktörlerden biri olan etkilenmenin ise öğretmenlik kimliğini olumsuz yönde etkilediği görülmüştür.The aim of this study is to examine reasons for selecting the teaching profession with pre-service teacher identity of physical education teacher candidates in terms of grade point average, class and gender. Moreover, it is aimed to reveal the relationship between each other. Sample of this study consisted of 365 physical education teacher candidates (Erciyes University School of Physical Education and Sports= 167, Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University School of Physical Education and Sports = 101, Gazi University Sports Science Faculty = 97). The data were collected used the “Personal Information Form,” the “Reasons for Preference for Teaching Profession Scale” developed by Övet (2006) the “Early Teacher Identity Scale” developed by Arpacı and Bardakçı (2015). This descriptive study is a relational screening model of survey models. In the analysis of the data, since the data showed normal distribution, a t-test was used for paired comparison and ANOVA multiple comparison and the Pearson correlation coefficient was used for examining the relationship among variables. According to results, found above the middle level the average of reasons for selecting the teaching profession of physical education (X=3.34±.59) and pre-service teacher identity (X=3.94±.78).In terms of gender of the teacher candidates, there were significant differences in favor of female in teacher candidates in the "consciousness" sub-dimension effective in the preference of the teaching profession and in the sub-dimensions of "self-categorization", "confidence", "participation" in the pre-service teacher identity and in total scale. There was not statistically significant difference between the pre-service teacher identity and reasons for selecting the teaching profession according to class of the teacher candidates. When examined according to academic achievement, there were significant differences teacher candidates in the "consciousness" and "ideal" sub-dimension effective in the preference of the teaching profession and in the sub-dimension of "participation" in total scale in the pre-service teacher. It is seen that the internal factors that are effective in the preference of the teaching profession positively affected the teacher identity, and the participation of one of the external factors negatively affected the pre-service teacher identity
