    A blind H i survey in the Canes Venatici region

    We have carried out a blind H i survey using the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope to make an inventory of objects with small H i masses (between 106 and 108 M⊙) and to constrain the low-mass end of the H i mass function. The survey has been conducted in a part of the volume containing the nearby Canes Venatici groups of galaxies. The surveyed region covers an area on the sky of about 86 deg2 and a range in velocity from about −450 to about 1330 km s−1. We find 70 sources in the survey by applying an automated searching algorithm. Two of the detections have not been catalogued previously, but they can be assigned an optical counterpart, based on visual inspection of the second-generation Digital Sky Survey images. Only one of the H i detections is without an optical counterpart. This object is detected in the vicinity of NGC 4822, and it has been already detected in previous H i studies. 19 of the objects have been detected for the first time in the 21-cm emission line in this survey. The distribution of the H i properties of our detections confirms our ability to find low-mass objects. 86 per cent of the detections have profile widths less than 130 km s−1, and they can be considered dwarf galaxy candidates. The H i fluxes measured imply that this survey goes about 10 times deeper than any previous blind H i survey.     For many metal alloys, the process of metal cutting is accompanied by extensive plastic deformation and fracture. To study this process, quick stop sectional samples of hypoeutectic Al-Cu alloy chip formation, either as conventionally cast alloy or as “semi solid metal” are used. The type of chip formation is classified according to crack formation mechanism and propagation. During cutting, in all specimens used, quasi-continuous chips with built-up edge (BUE) are obtained. The formation of BUE is undesirable since it is a highly deformed body with a semi stable top which periodically breaks away giving rise to poor workpiece surface quality.Za mnoge metalne legure, proces rezanja je praćen intenzivnom plastičnom deformacijom i lomom. Za istraživanje tog procesa u radu je korištena metoda brzog zaustavljanja procesa rezanja. Materijal uzorka je podeutektička Al-Cu legura, lijevana konvencionalno i kao „polu čvrsti metal“ (semi solid metal-SSM). Vrsta strugotine koja je obrazovana klasifi cirana je prema mehanizmu nastajanja i širenja pukotina. Tokom rezanja, u svim uzorcima nastajala je, kvazi-kontinuirano strugotina sa naslagama (BUE). Stvaranje BUE je nepoželjan proces, jer je to jako deformirani volumen sa polu stabilnim oblikom, koji povremeno raste i odvaja se, što dovodi do lošeg kvaliteta obrađene površine

    Anterior Tooth Relationship in Cuspid Protected and Group Function Occlusion

    OBJECTIVE OF INVESTIGATION: The aim of the study was to determine anterior tooth relationship (overbite and overjet) according to the type of occlusion (canine guided, group function). METHODS: A total of 111 test subjects (56 men and 55 women, mean 23.9 years of age) were examined, and it was determined that they have occlusional conception. The relationship of the front teeth in the position of maximum intercuspidation was evaluated by a portable meter. RESULTS: By analysing the obtained results of vertical overjet and horizontal overbite of the front teeth, we concluded that there was significant statistic difference in the amount of the vertical overjet with regard to occlusional conception (t=6.669, p=0.00001). Average value of the vertical overjet in examinees with occlusion lead by the canine was 2.22+0.09 mm, while in examinees with group function it was 1.58+0.26 mm. No significant statistical difference was found by analysing vertical overjet with regard to gender. No significant statistical difference between the groups was found by comparing the results of horizontal overbite of frontal teeth with regard to occlusional concepcion and gender. Average value of horizontal overjet was 1.62+0.29 mm. CONCLUSION: Subjects with canine guided occlusion have significantly and statistically bigger overjet of frontal teeth

    This study describes methods for the diagnosis, anesthesia and operative repair in 4 neonatal foals with urinary bladder rupture. Diagnosis was based on case history, clinical signs, changes in serum chemistry analyzes (hyponatremia, hyperkalemia, hypochloremia, metabolic acidosis and increased serum creatinine and urea nitrogen levels), abdominocentesis, ultrasound and electrocardiographs. As electrolyte abnormalities and acid-base derangement can lead to the development of cardiac arrhythmia during general anesthesia, surgical treatment of urinary bladder rupture in neonatal foals should be performed when the animal's condition has been stabilized. This includes infusion of physiological saline solution, 5 % glucose infusion with insulin (0.1U/kg) and 1.4% sodiumdrogencarbonate.Ova studija opsuje dijagnostikovanje, anesteziju i operativni tretman pri rupturi mokraćne bešike novorođene ždrebadi. Dijagnoza je zasnovana na istoriji bolesti, kliničkim simptomima, promenama u serumu ustanovljenim biohemijskim analizama (hiponatrijemija, hipokalijemija, hipohloremija, metabolička acidoza sa porastom nivoa serumskog kreatinina i ureje), abdominocintezi, ultrazvuku i elektrokardiografiji. Kao što poremećaji elektrolita i acido-bazne ravnoteže mogu dovesti do pojave srčane aritmije u toku opšte anestezije, hirurški tretman rupture bešike kod novorođene ždrebadi može biti primenjen kada je stabilizovano zdravstveno stanje životinje.     Influence of the Type of Occlusion on the Occurrence of Noncarious Cervical Lesion

    INTRODUCTION: The term \u27noncarious cervical lesions’ (NCCL) stands to indicate the loss of hard tissue at the tooth cervix. This loss can be caused by different physical and/or chemical agents. One of the causes of NCCL can be occlusal stress, which lead to toothflexure and loss of enamel at the cervical area. In different types of occlusion there are numerous lateral eccentric movements that can cause NCCL. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in the frequency of NCCLs between patients with different occlusal conception. METHODS AND RESULTS: The study involved 815 persons over the age of 10 years, chosen at random. The cervical third of the vestibular surface of the upper and lower teeth was clinically examined. NCCLs were measured with plus and minus. The type of occlusal conception was established by clinical examination and classified as canine guidance, group function and combined occlusion. The results showed that the NCCLs were equally participate in both sexes, and in all three types of occlusion (Chi-square values were 1.96, df=2, p>0.05). CONCLUSION: The results of the study indicate that there is no statistically significant difference in the frequency of NCCLs between patients with different occlusal

    Radioaktivnost u cisternskim vodama u Hrvatskoj

    The levels of radioactivity in cistern waters in the areas along the Adriatic coast have been investigated since 1962 when high total beta activity and 90Sr were detected. A rapid decline followed after the nuclear moratorium. Since 1970 a small increase due to Chinese nuclear weapon tests has been registered. Several cistern waters in the villages around Zagreb were investigated while the nuclear power station was still under construction. Very low alpha and beta radioactivity originating from fall-out was detected.Nivo radioaktivnosti u cisternskim vodama duž Jadrana ispituje se od 1962. godine. Prati se stalno ukupna beta-aktivnost i 90Sr. Nakon prestanka velikih pokusa s nuklearnim oružjem, radioaktivnost je naglo pala i ostala niska do sada. Poslije 1968. godine došlo je do malog povišenja nivoa radioaktivnosti uslijed kineskih nuklearnih eksperimenata, međutim, značajnog povišenja nije bilo.     The FMOS-COSMOS survey of star-forming galaxies at z ~ 1.6. I. H\alpha -based star formation rates and dust extinction

    We present the first results from a near-IR spectroscopic survey of the COSMOS field, using the Fiber Multi-Object Spectrograph on the Subaru telescope, designed to characterize the star-forming galaxy population at 1.4<z<1.71.4<z<1.7. The high-resolution mode is implemented to detect Hα\alpha in emission between 1.61.8μm1.6{\rm -}1.8 \mathrm{\mu m} with fHα4×1017f_{\rm H\alpha}\gtrsim4\times10^{-17} erg cm2^{-2} s1^{-1}. Here, we specifically focus on 271 sBzK-selected galaxies that yield a Hα\alpha detection thus providing a redshift and emission line luminosity to establish the relation between star formation rate and stellar mass. With further JJ-band spectroscopy for 89 of these, the level of dust extinction is assessed by measuring the Balmer decrement using co-added spectra. We find that the extinction (0.6AHα2.50.6\lesssim A_\mathrm{H\alpha} \lesssim 2.5) rises with stellar mass and is elevated at high masses compared to low-redshift galaxies. Using this subset of the spectroscopic sample, we further find that the differential extinction between stellar and nebular emission \hbox{Estar(BV)/Eneb(BV)E_\mathrm{star}(B-V)/E_\mathrm{neb}(B-V)} is 0.7--0.8, dissimilar to that typically seen at low redshift. After correcting for extinction, we derive an Hα\alpha-based main sequence with a slope (0.81±0.040.81\pm0.04) and normalization similar to previous studies at these redshifts.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures, and 1 table.
