Between acceptance and dislike: the intricacy of cross-cultural contacts while travelling

Today travelling is a global phenomenon. Many journeys involve cross-cultural contacts, often between cultures which are very remote from each other. Some questions arise: does the contemporary traveller expect cross-cultural contacts and how does he/she imagine such interactions? These seemingly simple questions enable us to reflect on the intentionality and complexity of cross-cultural interactions, the main issue discussed in the article. The author draws the reader's attention to the social roles assumed by the modern traveller, as well as the theoretical scenarios of cross-cultural contact, analyzing its symmetric and asymmetric forms

Relations between Tourism and Sport in the Context of Tourism as an Academic Discipline

The specific objective of the paper is to discuss the mutual relations between tourism and sport and, in a wider context, to draw the reader’s attention to the potentially excessive range of research goals in tourism as a discipline. Within the scope of discussion, the author looks at tourism as a social activity and a conceptual and research subject. Research questions, the signposts of intellectual debate, come down to whether tourism shares any common areas with sport (in its widest sense). If so, is such activity still tourism activity? Or perhaps these types of ‘sport-tourist’ activities should be excluded from discussion on tourism as an academic discipline because of their non-tourist character? The author assumes that there is an exploratory and cognitive zone between these two areas of social activity, going beyond both tourism and sport. Hyperbolic dimension of Julia sets of meromorphic maps with logarithmic tracts

We prove that for meromorphic maps with logarithmic tracts (e.g. entire or meromorphic maps with a finite number of poles from class $\mathcal B$), the Julia set contains a compact invariant hyperbolic Cantor set of Hausdorff dimension greater than 1. Zastosowanie „metod mieszanych” do badania zachowań turystów w mieście – przykład konceptualizacji i wykorzystania (artykuł dyskusyjny)

Opracowanie mieści się w kategoriach konceptualno-metodologicznego artykułu dyskusyjnego. Celem pracy jest dyskusja na temat zastosowania „metod mieszanych” (mixed methods research) w polskich badaniach turystycznych, w szczególności zachowań turystów w mieście. Artykuł składa się z części omawiającej zestaw metod wykorzystanych do badania zachowań turystów oraz prezentującej wyniki badań – zastosowania zaproponowanego algorytmu postępowania. Autorzy przyjmując podejście behawioralne proponują zastosowanie metody quasi-eksperymentu połączonego z wykorzystaniem technik rejestracji ruchu GPS oraz metod jakościowych badań socjologicznych. W opracowaniu podejmuje się dyskusję literaturową dotyczącą tzw. mixed method research, omawia zaproponowany algorytm postępowania badawczego oraz wyciąga wnioski wynikające z zastosowania tego typu metod łącznie.Niniejsza praca została sfinansowana ze środków Narodowego Centrum Nauki: grant UMO-2011/03/B/HS4/01171

Meranie veľkosti adhezívného opotrebenia v laboratórnych podmienkach

The study is focused on the one of possibilities of adhesive wear measurement in laboratory conditions. Adhesive wear share is defined on the basis of tribological quantity such as frictional force, radial wear and frictional temperature. Obtained results suggest the correct selected measuring succession for adhesive wear monitoring.V príspevku sme sa zaoberali jednou z možností merania adhezívneho opotrebenia v laboratórnych podmienkach. Veľkosť adhezívneho opotrebenie sme definovali na základe tribolo-gických veličín, ako je trecia sila, radiálne opotrebenie a teplota vzniknutá trením.
