    Unfixing the fixed pie: A motivated information processing approach to integrative negotiation.

    Negotiators tend to believe that own and other's outcomes are diametrically opposed. When such fixed-pie perceptions (FPPs) are not revised during negotiation, integrative agreements axe unlikely. Itwas predicted that accuracy motivation helps negotiators to release their FPPs. In 2 experiments, accuracy motivation was manipulated by (not) holding negotiators accountable for the manner in which they negotiated. Experiment 1 showed that accountability reduced FPPs during face-to-face negotiation and produced more integrative agreements. Experiment 2 corroborated these results: Accountablenegotiators revised their FPPs even when information exchange was experimentally held constant. Experiment 2 also showed that accountability is effective during the encoding of outcome information. Negotiators appear flexible in their reliance on FPPs, which is consistent with a motivated informationprocessing model of negotiation

    Dit proefschrift beschrijft het onderzoek naar de stabiliteit van twee typen DNA volgordes (sequenties) die vaak voorkomen in DNA: microsatellieten en G-quadruplex sequenties. Microsatellieten zijn kleine stukjes repeterend DNA en G-quadruplex sequenties hebben de unieke eigenschap om een DNA-structuur te vormen die bestaat uit vier DNA-strengen. Bij een celdeling, waarbij het DNA gekopieerd moet worden, blijken deze twee sequenties soms lastig te kopi_ren te zijn. Dit kan tot DNA-instabiliteit leiden. Deze instabiliteit wordt in verband gebracht met kanker en neurodegeneratieve ziektes zoals ALS. Het is daarom van groot belang om alles te weten te komen over microsatelliet- en G-quadruplex-instabiliteit. Allereerst worden in dit proefschrift nieuwe methodes beschreven waarmee de instabiliteit van microsatellieten en G-quadruplexes makkelijk kan worden waargenomen. Met behulp van deze methodes zijn vervolgens verschillende ontdekkingen gedaan. Zo is bijvoorbeeld ontdekt dat in menselijke cellen een klein RNA-molecuul betrokken is bij het instabiel worden van microsatellieten en het ontstaan van darmkanker. Een ander belangrijke bevinding is de ontdekking van een nieuw soort DNA-reparatie mechanisme in de rondworm. De ontdekking van dit mechanisme, waarbij het eiwit polymerase theta G-quadruplex-ge_nduceerde DNA schade repareert, heeft tot nieuwe inzichten geleid op het gebied van genetische mutaties, evolutie en het bestrijden van tumoren.UBL - phd migration 201

    NEMA NU 2-2007 performance characteristics of GE Signa integrated PET/MR for different PET isotopes

    BackgroundFully integrated PET/MR systems are being used frequently in clinical research and routine. National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) characterization of these systems is generally done with F-18 which is clinically the most relevant PET isotope. However, other PET isotopes, such as Ga-68 and Y-90, are gaining clinical importance as they are of specific interest for oncological applications and for follow-up of Y-90-based radionuclide therapy. These isotopes have a complex decay scheme with a variety of prompt gammas in coincidence. Ga-68 and Y-90 have higher positron energy and, because of the larger positron range, there may be interference with the magnetic field of the MR compared to F-18. Therefore, it is relevant to determine the performance of PET/MR for these clinically relevant and commercially available isotopes.MethodsNEMA NU 2-2007 performance measurements were performed for characterizing the spatial resolution, sensitivity, image quality, and the accuracy of attenuation and scatter corrections for F-18, Ga-68, and Y-90. Scatter fraction and noise equivalent count rate (NECR) tests were performed using F-18 and Ga-68. All phantom data were acquired on the GE Signa integrated PET/MR system, installed in UZ Leuven, Belgium.Results(18)F, Ga-68, and Y-90 NEMA performance tests resulted in substantially different system characteristics. In comparison with F-18, the spatial resolution is about 1mm larger in the axial direction for Ga-68 and no significative effect was found for Y-90. The impact of this lower resolution is also visible in the recovery coefficients of the smallest spheres of Ga-68 in image quality measurements, where clearly lower values are obtained. For Y-90, the low number of counts leads to a large variability in the image quality measurements. The primary factor for the sensitivity change is the scale factor related to the positron emission fraction. There is also an impact on the peak NECR, which is lower for Ga-68 than for F-18 and appears at higher activities.ConclusionsThe system performance of GE Signa integrated PET/MR was substantially different, in terms of NEMA spatial resolution, image quality, and NECR for Ga-68 and Y-90 compared to F-18. But these differences are compensated by the PET/MR scanner technologies and reconstructions methods

    Future land-use change in the Netherlands: an analysis based on a chain of models

    Analyses of the impact of European policies on agricultural change are most often based on agricultural sector models. Such models have their limitations: they cannot specify the interaction between agriculture and the rest of the economy, and their spatial dimension is usually limited. Land use simulation models, on the other hand, usually depend on other models for assessing the demand for land. The consistency of those models with the assumptions and databases of the land use model is often not examined. This article reports on a research project where the links between a macroeconomic model, an agricultural sector model and a land use model were explicitly explored in order to arrive at a consistent model chain.     Рассмотрена плоская задача о прогрессивных гравитационных внутренних волнах в горизонтальном двухслойном течении Кельвина-Гельмгольца. Найдено аналитическое решение задачи и условия существования внутренних волн. Для течений с параметрами, типичными для пролива Босфор и Керченского пролива, рассчитаны характеристики бароклинных волн. В пространстве волновых чисел определены диапазоны устойчивости и неустойчивости двухслойных течений с характерными для этих проливов параметрами относительно малых возмущений в форме прогрессивных волн.Розглянуто плоску задачу про прогресивні гравітаційні внутрішні хвилі у горизонтальній двошаровій течії Кельвіна-Гельмгольца. Знайдено аналітичне рішення задачі та умови існування внутрішніх хвиль. Для течій з параметрами, типовими для протоки Босфор і Керченської протоки, розраховані характеристики бароклінних хвиль. У просторі хвильових чисел визначені діапазони стійкості і нестійкості двошарових течій з характерними для цих проток параметрами відносно малих збурень у формі прогресивних хвиль.The plane problem of the progressive internal gravity waves in a horizontal two-layer Kelvin-Helmholtz flow is considered. The analytical solution of the problem and the conditions of existence of internal waves are found. For the flows with the typical parameters for the Bosphorus Strait and the Strait of Kerch, characteristics of baroclinic waves are calculated. The stability and instability regimes of two-layer currents with characteristic parameters of these straits with respect to small wave disturbances are found in the space of wave numbers

    Design and characterization of dielectric filled TM110_{110} microwave cavities for ultrafast electron microscopy

    Microwave cavities oscillating in the TM110_{110} mode can be used as dynamic electron-optical elements inside an electron microscope. By filling the cavity with a dielectric material it becomes more compact and power efficient, facilitating the implementation in an electron microscope. However, the incorporation of the dielectric material makes the manufacturing process more difficult. Presented here are the steps taken to characterize the dielectric material, and to reproducibly fabricate dielectric filled cavities. Also presented are two versions with improved capabilities. The first, called a dual-mode cavity, is designed to support two modes simultaneously. The second has been optimized for low power consumption. With this optimized cavity a magnetic field strength of 2.84 ±\pm 0.07 mT was generated at an input power of 14.2 ±\pm 0.2 W. Due to the low input powers and small dimensions, these dielectric cavities are ideal as electron-optical elements for electron microscopy setups

    FGFR Family Members Protein Expression as Prognostic Markers in Oral Cavity and Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

    Introduction Fibroblast growth factor receptor family member proteins (FGFR1-4) have been identified as promising novel therapeutic targets and prognostic markers in a wide spectrum of solid tumors. The present study investigates the expression and prognostic value of four FGFR family member proteins in a large multicenter oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC) and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) cohort. Methods Protein expression of FGFR1-4 was determined by immunohistochemistry on tissue microarrays containing 951 formalin-fixed paraffin embedded OCSCC and OPSCC tissues from the University Medical Center Utrecht and University Medical Center Groningen. Protein expression was correlated to overall survival using Cox regression models, and bootstrapping was performed as internal validation. Results FGFR proteins were highly expressed in 39-64 % of OCSCC and 63-79 % of OPSCC. Seventy-three percent (299/412) of OCSCC and 85 % (305/357) of OPSCC highly co-expressed two or more FGFR family member proteins. FGFR1 protein was more frequently highly expressed in human papillomavirus (HPV)-negative OPSCC than HPV-positive OPSCC (82 vs. 65 %; p = 0.008). Furthermore, protein expression of FGFR family members was not related to overall survival in OCSCC or OPSCC (p . 0.05). Conclusion FGFR family members are frequently highly expressed in OCSCC and OPSCC. These FGFR family member proteins are therefore potential targets for novel therapies that are urgently required to improve survival of OCSCC and OPSCC patients

    Long-term musculoskeletal function after Open Pelvic ring fractures in Children (OPEC); a multicentre, retrospective case series with follow-up measurement

    Background: The proportion of Open Pelvic fractures in the paediatric population is relatively high. While operative fixation is the primary approach for managing Open Pelvic fractures in adults, there is limited literature on treatment outcomes in Children, particularly regarding long-term musculoskeletal, neurological, and urogenital function. Methods: This multicentre case series included paediatric patients (&lt;18 years old) with Open Pelvic ring fractures treated at one of two major trauma centres in the Netherlands between January 1, 2001 and December 31, 2021. Data collection involved clinical records and long-term assessments, including musculoskeletal function, growth disorders, urogenital function, sexual dysfunction, and sensory motor function. Results: A total of 11 patients were included, primarily females (73 %), with a median age at trauma of 12 years (P25–P75 7–14). Most patients had unstable Pelvic ring fractures resulting from high-energy trauma. Surgical interventions were common, with external fixation as the main initial surgical approach (n = 7, 70 %). Complications were observed in eight (73 %) patients. Musculoskeletal function revealed a range of issues in the lower extremity, daily activities, and mental and emotional domain. Long-term radiologic follow-up showed high rates of Pelvic malunion (n = 7, 64 %). Neurological function assessment showed motor and sensory function impairment in a subset of patients. Urogenital function was moderately affected, and sexual dysfunction was limited with most respondents reporting no issues. Conclusion: Paediatric Open Pelvic fractures are challenging injuries associated with significant short-term complications and long-term musculoskeletal and urogenital issues. Further research is needed to develop tailored treatment strategies and improve outcomes of these patients.</p
