Method to Generate Disaster-Damage Map using 3D photometry and Crowd Sourcing

    Get PDF
Thanks to the rapid progress of the Internet and mobile devices, information related to disaster areas can be collected through the Internet. To grasp the degree of damage in a disaster situation, the use of crowdsourcing for coordinating the individual efforts (micro tasks) of an enormous number of users (workers) on the Internet has been drawing attention as a means of quickly solving problems. However, the information gathered from the Internet is huge and diverse, so it is difficult to formulate as a crowdsourcing task. This paper proposes a conversion platform for the images of a disaster site photographed by various users as information about the site, integrating the images into a single map using 3D image processing, and providing the map to crowdsourcing as a micro task.Published in: 2017 IEEE International Conference on Big Data (Big Data) Date of Conference: 11-14 Dec. 2017 Conference Location: Boston, MA, US

Three-dimensional structure of radiative cooling in impurity seeded plasmas in the Large Helical Device

Three-dimensionally localization of radiative cooling due to nitrogen (N2) seeding for divertor detachment was detected experimentally. Since the localization along some magnetic field lines induces toroidal asymmetry of heat load reduction on divertor plates, it should be avoided for fusion reactors. The three-dimensionally localized structure was extracted using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) from two-dimensional radiation images measured with an InfraRed imaging Video Bolometer (IRVB). By applying PCA to 34 images each in N2 seeded plasmas with toroidally-asymmetric heat load reduction and in neon (Ne) seeded plasmas with toroidally-symmetric heat load reduction, a radiation feature in N2 seeded plasmas was found as one of the principal components (PC). The three-dimensional transport code EMC3-EIRENE indicated that the ionization in one of the divertor legs is enhanced in nitrogen seeding compared with Ne seeding due to the difference in the first ionization energy. The magnetic field lines from the divertor leg were along the extracted radiation structure and were terminated by the divertor where the heat load decreased due to the N2 seeding. These results indicate that three-dimensionally localized structure of radiative cooling was detected experimentally

Kidney- and Site-Selective Delivery of 5-Fluorouracil Utilizing the Absorption on the Kidney Surface in Rats

The present study was undertaken to elucidate the kidney- and site-selective delivery of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) utilizing the absorption on the kidney surface in rats. An experimental system utilizing a cylindrical diffusion cell attached to the right kidney surface was established. After intravenous administration of 5-FU, the concentration of 5-FU in the right and left kidneys was almost the same and was rapidly eliminated. After right kidney surface application of 5-FU, however, the concentration of 5-FU in the right kidney was significantly higher than in the left kidney and other tissues. The 5-FU concentration in four sites of the right kidney after intravenous administration was almost the same. In contrast, 5-FU was site selectively delivered in the kidney after kidney surface application. The blood concentration of 5-FU was low (<1.7 μg/ml) until 120 min after kidney surface application. The maximum blood concentration of 5-FU after kidney surface application was much lower than after intravenous administration

Sex Differences in the Motivation for Viewing Sexually Arousing Images

Sexual motivation strongly influences our mate choices and dating behaviors and can be triggered by merely viewing sexually arousing visual images, such as erotic pictures and movies. Previous studies suggested that men, more than women, tend to search for sexual cues that signal promiscuity in short-term mates. However, it remains to be tested whether the sex differences in the motivation to view sexual cues can be observed by using robust and well-controlled behavioral measures. To this end, we employed a pay-per-view key-pressing task. Japanese self-identified heterosexual male and female participants viewed images of men, women, or couples with two levels of sexual arousal (sexual vs. less sexual). Participants could alter the viewing time of a presented image according to their willingness to keep viewing it. The male participants were eager to view the sexual female images the most, whereas the female participants were more strongly motivated to view the less sexual images of couples. Such sex differences may reflect differentiated reproductive strategies between men and women; men’s motivation toward promiscuity and women’s motivation toward long-term relationships

Diverticulum of the buccal mucosa: a rare case report and review of the literature

Abstract Background Cases of diverticula of the buccal mucosa are extremely rare. Literature searches of databases such as PubMed/MEDLINE for this condition have revealed only 10 case reports. In this case report, we describe our experience in the management of this rare condition and review the previous 10 previously reported cases. Case presentation A 66-year-old man presented with a pouch containing inspissated food debris located posterior to the papilla of the parotid duct in his left buccal mucosa. The diagnosis of a diverticulum arising from the buccal mucosa was confirmed based on clinical and radiographic findings. Gross examination of the locally resected tissue specimen revealed a pouch measuring 14 mm in diameter and 8 mm in depth, that was whitish in color and had an elastic, soft, and smooth surface. Microscopic examination revealed a cyst-like lesion lined by stratified squamous epithelium and granulation tissue, with a chronic inflammatory infiltration in the peripheral stromal tissue of the epithelial layer. After surgical excision of the lesion, there was no recurrence during the follow-up period of 5 years and 10 months. Conclusions We have presented a rare case of a diverticulum of the buccal mucosa. This is the first report of a case confirmed not only by the clinicopathological findings, but also by computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging findings. From the magnetic resonance imaging and intraoperative findings, we inferred that the diverticulum was caused by an idiopathic developmental anomaly due to a partial defect of the buccinator muscle
