EFFECT OF TIANEPTINE ON COGNITIVE FUNCTIONS IN PATIENTS WITH DEPRESSIVE DISORDERS DURING A 3-MONTH OBSERVATION

Objective: The authors put forward the hypotheses that during a three-month treatment with tianeptine in patients with depressive disorders there is an improvement in the short-term memory, reaction time and attention. Subject and methods: 20 patients suffering from depression, were included in the study. During the entire research period all patients were treated with monotherapy with tianeptine. Cognitive function measurements were performed using the Vienna Test System. Results: Our study showed an improvement in the all the assessed functions: patients treated with tianeptine had better performance in tests measuring short term memory and learning processes as well as reaction time and attention. Conlusion: In conclusion, the study shows that tianeptine improves cognitive functions in depressed patients

IMPACT OF OLANZAPINE ON COGNITIVE FUNCTIONS IN PATIENTS WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA DURING AN OBSERVATION PERIOD OF SIX MONTHS

Objective: The objective of our study was to evaluate the effect of olanzapine treatment on selected cognitive functions in patients suffering from schizophrenia during an observation period of six-months. Subjects and methods: Twenty patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia according to ICD-10 criteria for research were examined. One day before initiation of olanzapine a baseline assessment was performed. The neuropsychological examination was repeated 28 days, 60 days, 3 months, and 6 months after the beginning of treatment. Cognitive function measurements were performed using Signal, COGNITRON and RT tests, being a part of the computer-based Vienna Test System (VTS). Results: Our study showed an improvement in the assessed cognitive functions. Impairments in cognitive domains were observed at baseline as compared to published normative data, and enhancement in achieved results was observed subsequently in all stages of the treatment until the 6th month. Conclusion: The above results are consistent with a number of other studies on the impact on cognitive functioning in patients with schizophrenia treated with olanzapine

The paper is devoted to the issues concerning the conditions and potentialsfor development of a creative economy - based on culture sector - in cities and towns ofthe Upper Silesian Agglomeration. It refers to the aspects like: broad and narrow definition of a creative economy, prospective and retrospective presentation of the Upper Silesian Agglomeration as well as its institutional potential along with existingstructure of the creative economy. Cases of Katowice as a musie city and Bytom as a stage and outdoor entertainment town were also discussed.Artykuł jest poświęcony wynikom badań dotyczących warunków i potencjałów kształtowania i rozwoju kreatywnej gospodarki opartej na sektorze kultury w miastach Aglomeracji Górnośląskiej. Opracowanie obejmuje następujące aspekty: przedstawienie i analiza szerokiej i wąskiej definicji kreatywnej gospodarki, retrospektywne i prospektywne ujęcie Aglomeracji Górnośląskiej oraz jej potencjału instytucjonalnego i struktura sektorów gospodarki kreatywnej. SEX-SPECIFIC DIFFERENCES IN COGNITIVE FUNCTIONING AMONG SCHIZOPHRENIC PATIENTS

Background: Cognitive deficits in schizophrenia are regarded by many psychiatrist as an important symptom, which requires appropriate treatment and rehabilitation. There are different conditions, which may have an influence on cognitive impairment in schizophrenic patients. One the factors differentiating subgroups of schizophrenic patients when neuropsychological functioning is analyzed is sex. Subjects and methods: This Review was focused on cognitive functioning of schizophrenic patients of different sexes. In order to achieve this result PubMed was searched using following terms: cognitive functions, schizophrenia, gender differences, sex hormones, memory, attention, neuropsychological, psychopatological symptoms. Results: Most of the analyzed papers reflecting the cognitive differences between men and women suffering from schizophrenia postulate a worse performance in neuropsychological test by male patients. However according to some authors there are no gender differences in cognitive functioning in schizophrenic patients or those differences are not clinically significant. Conclusions: The problem of sex-specific differences in cognitive functioning in patients in schizophrenia needs further investigation

Katowice’s Cultural Development Strategy 2020+. Works on the strategy for cultural development of Katowice were initiated by the city’s authorities in January 2010. The paper presents main parts of the final strategy’s document including: assumptions of the strategy for defining the cultural development of Katowice, vision of the cultural development of the city, general goal and domain’s priorities for the cultural development, and specific objectives of the cultural development. The specific objectives formed the basis for identifying courses of measures and undertakings of cultural development of Katowice. In axiology layer the Katowice’s vision of cultural development includes eleven values, i.e.: culture in everyday life, culture as a meeting milieu, education and participation in culture, zones and routs of culture, the city of aesthetic landscape, the city of comfortable public transport system, Katowice as open city, creative Katowice, the city place for young, the city of big events, as well as Katowice and Metropolis in Europe
