    The rapid development of XML technology improves the WWW, since the XML data has many advantages and has become a common technology for transferring data cross the internet. Therefore, the objective of this research is to investigate and study the XML indexing techniques in terms of their structures. The main goal of this investigation is to identify the main limitations of these techniques and any other open issues. Furthermore, this research considers most common XML indexing techniques and performs a comparison between them. Subsequently, this work makes an argument to find out these limitations. To conclude, the main problem of all the XML indexing techniques is the trade-off between the size and the efficiency of the indexes.     Design and implementation of a t-way test data generation strategy with automated execution tool support

    To ensure an acceptable level of quality and reliability of a typical software product, it is desirable to test every possible combination of input data under various configurations. However, due to the combinatorial explosion problem, exhaustive testing is practically impossible. Resource constraints, cost factors, and strict time-to-market deadlines are some of the main factors that inhibit such a consideration. Earlier research has suggested that a sampling strategy (i.e., one that is based on a t-way parameter interaction) can be effective. As a result, many helpful t-way sampling strategies have been developed and can be found in the literature. Several advances have been achieved in the last 15 years, which have, in particular, served to facilitate the test planning process by systematically minimizing the test size required (based on certain t-way parameter interactions). Despite this significant progress, the integration and automation of strategies (from planning process to execution) are still lacking. Additionally, strategizing to sample (and construct) a minimum test set from the exhaustive test space is an NP-complete problem; that is, it is often unlikely that an efficient strategy exists that could regularly generate an optimal test set. Motivated by these challenges, this paper discusses the design, implementation, and validation of an efficient strategy for t-way testing, the GTWay strategy. The main contribution of GTWay is the integration of t-way test data generation with automated (concurrent) execution as part of its tool implementation. Unlike most previous methods, GTWay addresses the generation of test data for a high coverage strength (t > 6)

    Clustering-based Labelling Scheme - A Hybrid Approach for Efficient Querying and Updating XML Documents

    Extensible Markup Language (XML) has become a dominant technology for transferring data through the worldwide web. The XML labelling schemes play a key role in handling XML data efficiently and robustly. Thus, many labelling schemes have been proposed. However, these labelling schemes have limitations and shortcomings. Thus, the aim of this research was to investigate the existing XML labelling schemes and their limitations in order to address the issue of efficiency of XML query performance. This thesis investigated the existing labelling schemes and classified them into three categories based on certain criteria, in order to identify the limitations and challenges of these labelling schemes. Based on the outcomes of this investigation, this thesis proposed a state-of-theart labelling scheme, called clustering-based labelling scheme, to resolve or improve the key limitations such as the efficiency of the XML query processing, labelling XML nodes, and XML updates cost. This thesis argued that using certain existing labelling schemes to label nodes, and using the clustering-based techniques can improve query and labelling nodes efficiency. Theoretically, the proposed scheme is based on dividing the nodes of an XML document into clusters. Two existing labelling schemes, which are the Dewey and LLS labelling schemes, were selected for labelling these clusters and their nodes. Subsequently, the proposed scheme was designed and implemented. In addition, the Dewey and LLS labelling scheme were implemented for the purpose of evaluating the proposed scheme. Subsequently, four experiments were designed in order to test the proposed scheme against the Dewey and LLS labelling schemes. The results of these experiments suggest that the proposed scheme achieved better results than the Dewey and LLS schemes. Consequently, the research hypothesis was accepted overall with few exceptions, and the proposed scheme showed an improvement in the performance and all the targeted features and aspects

    VMQ: an algorithm for measuring the Video Motion Quality

    This paper proposes a new full-reference algorithm, called Video Motion Quality (VMQ) that evaluates the relative motion quality of the distorted video generated from the reference video based on all the frames from both videos. VMQ uses any frame-based metric to compare frames from the original and distorted videos. It uses the time stamp for each frame to measure the intersection values. VMQ combines the comparison values with the intersection values in an aggregation function to produce the final result. To explore the efficiency of the VMQ, we used a set of raw, uncompressed videos to generate a new set of encoded videos. These encoded videos are then used to generate a new set of distorted videos which have the same video bit rate and frame size but with reduced frame rate. To evaluate the VMQ, we applied the VMQ by comparing the encoded videos with the distorted videos and recorded the results. The initial evaluation results showed compatible trends with most of subjective evaluation results

    Exact string matching algorithms for searching DNA and protein sequences and searching chemical databases

    The enormous quantities of biological and chemical files and databases are likely to grow year on year, consequently giving rise to the need to develop string-matching algorithms capable of minimizing the searching response time. Being aware of this need, this thesis aims to develop string matching algorithms to search biological sequences and chemical structures by studying exact string matching algorithms in detail. As a result, this research developed a new classification of string matching algorithms containing eight categories according to the pre-processing function of algorithms and proposed five new string matching algorithms; BRBMH, BRQS, Odd and Even algorithm (OE), Random String Matching algorithm (RSMA) and Skip Shift New algorithm (SSN). The main purpose behind the proposed algorithms is to reduce the searching response time and the total number of comparisons. They are tested by comparing them with four well- known standard algorithms, Boyer Moore Horspool (BMH), Quick Search (QS), TVSBS and BRFS. This research applied all of the algorithms to sample data files by implementing three types of tests. The number of comparison tests showed a substantial difference in the number of comparisons our algorithms use compared to the non-hybrid algorithms such as QS and BMH. In addition, the tests showed considerable difference between our algorithms and other hybrid algorithm such as TVSBS and BRFS. For instance, the average elapsed search time tests showed that our algorithms presented better average elapsed search time than the BRFS, TVSBS, QS and BMH algorithms, while the average number of tests showed better number of attempts compared to BMH, QS, TVSBS and BRFS algorithms. A new contribution has been added by this research by using the fastest proposed algorithm, the SSN algorithm, to develop a chemical structure searching toolkit to search chemical structures in our local database. The new algorithms were paralleled using OpenMP and MPI parallel models and tested at the University of Science Malaysia (USM) on a Stealth Cluster with different number of threads and processors to improve the speed of searching pattern in the given text which, as we believe, is another contribution

    Quality of life levels for physically disabled teenagers in inclusive and special education schools in jerusalem

    The study aims to clarify the quality of life among physically disabled teens in inclusive and special education schools in Jerusalem according to Quality of life ranks (psychological, social, academics, and physical health). The study population consist of 117 physically disabled teenagers’ students in Jerusalem. The study sample was 52 physically disabled teenagers at ages 14-21 years in two schools; special education and an included school, which equal to 44%. The researchers used descriptive approach. The results show differences in quality of life in both schools: the quality of life according to psychological, academic and healthy ranks among physically disabled teenagers are moderate in both inclusive and special education schools with favoring to inclusive schools. While in social rank in inclusive school scored higher than the special education school. The results show there is no significant differences in quality of life among physically disabled teenagers in both schools based on sex, and economic status. However, the results show significant differences related to age, and educational places favoring to special education school. The study recommended improving (Academic, healthy and psychological) quality of life in both schools, and social quality of life in special education school
