    MULTI-OBJECTIVE OPTIMIZATION OF EDM PARAMETERS USING GREY RELATION ANALYSIS

    This paper involves the multi-objective optimization of process parameters of AlSi10Mg/9 wt% alumina/3 wt% graphite in Electrical Discharge Machining for obtaining minimum surface roughness, minimum tool wear rate and maximum material removal rate. The important machining parameters were selected as peak current, flushing pressure and pulse-on time. Experiments were conducted by selecting different operating levels for the three parameters according to Taguchi’s Design of Experiments. The multi-objective optimization was performed using Grey Relation Analysis to determine the optimal solution. The Grey Relation Grade values were then analysed using Analysis of Variance to determine the most contributing input parameter. On analysis it was found that peak current, flushing pressure and pulse-on time had an influence of 61.36%, 17.81% and 8.09% respectively on the optimal solution

    Informed consent: A study of experiences and opinion of utilizers of health services from India

    One hundred and forty-eight subjects drawn from urban and rural settings who had been hospitalized for any medical problem within the previous three years were interviewed using a semi structured interview schedule to understand their opinion and experiences of informed consent. Sixty medical officers providing primary care in both urban and rural areas were concurrently interviewed to gather their opinion. Results revealed that respondents were dissatisfied with the information they had received about the different aspects of their illness. Both the doctors and the patients felt the need for providing adequate information to utilizers of health services. The two groups identified certain constraints, like illiteracy, in obtaining informed consent. Doctors compared to patients more often thought that illiterates could not understand the information.     Lipid profiles of Threadfin bream (<i style="">Nemipterus japonicus</i>) organs

    461-463Present study of the lipid content in different organs of marine fish Threadfin bream (Nemipterus japonicus) indicates that a major amount of lipids are accumulated in liver (6.22%) when compared with remaining organs like muscle (2.7%) and skin (1.0%). Cholesterol studies reveal that muscle (36.2%) is having more quantities than liver (32.4%) and skin (24%). Fatty acid composition reveals that the lipids of each organ of threadfin bream are enriched in the unsaturated fatty acids and all the organs were found to be rich in linoleic (C18: 2), oleic (C 18:1) and palmitic (C16: 0). The present study further elucidates that a considerable amount of two physiologically important n-3 PUFAs, i.e. EPA and DHA were found more in skin (1.6% and 0.5%) and liver (1.6% and 0.6%) than in muscle (1.4% and 0.4%)

    Assessing the sustainability of threadfin bream fishery along South-eastern coast of the Arabian Sea: A comprehensive analysis of climate change impact and fishing frontiers

    The study aimed to assess the cumulative impact of climate change and sustainable fishing levels on the long-term sustainability of threadfin breams, a demersal species inhabiting along south-eastern coast of the Arabian Sea (SEAS). We utilized the dataset derived from the commercial fisheries in the SEAS region and addressed the influence of dynamics in fishing and environmental factors. The threadfin breams stock status was estimated by analyzing the fluctuations in Catch Per Unit Effort and by employing methods, viz. the Monte Carlo Catch- Maximum Sustainable Yield and Bayesian Schaefer Model. The investigation found that the catch rate of threadfin breams declined as fishing intensity increased in terms of effectiveness of advanced fishing methods. This empirical inquiry leveraged the Generalized Additive Model to assess the impact of environmental parameters on the fish stock. The analysis unveils a notable positive influence on this fish group, signifying a substantial response to increased precipitation. In contrast, deviations in Sea Surface Temperature, Sea Surface Salinity, ocean isothermal layer depth, and surface currents revealed adverse effects surpassing the optimal threshold. The targeted stock of threadfin breams exhibits a medium level of resilience, as indicated by the existing data, the investigation concludes that optimizing fishing practices could aid in replenishing the stock, fostering future sustainability. This conclusion holds true even in the face of potential negative influences from environmental parameters to a certain extent. Overall, the study provides important insights into the impact of climate change and sustainable fishing practices on the sustainability of a demersal resource in the SEAS and emphasizes the innovative ways to manage fishery resources in a manner that is ecologically sustainable and yet economically viable and socially acceptable
