    Unrefereed reprintThe genus Pantoea forms a complex of more than 25 species, among which several cause diseases of several crop plants, including rice. Notably, strains of Pantoea ananatis and Pantoea stewartii have been found to cause bacterial leaf blight of rice in Togo and Benin, while other authors have observed that Pantoea agglomerans can also cause bacterial leaf blight of rice. The contribution of these and perhaps other species of Pantoea to plant diseases and yield losses of crop plants is currently not well documented, partly due to the lack of efficient diagnostic tools

    Acute Burkitt\u27s Leukemia: Case Report and Literature Review

    The occurrence of leukemia in Burkitt\u27s lymphoma, with or without visceral or nodal tumefaction is uncommon, and its initial presentation as leukemia is even more unusual. Because it has a poor chemotherapeutic response and a grave prognosis, it is important to recognize this unusual leukemia correctly. Our report describes the clinical and pathologic findings of Burkitt\u27s lymphoma cell leukemia in a five-year-old white boy who presented with abdominal distension, hepatosplenomegaly, and lymphadenopathy. Blood examination revealed normocytic normochromic anemia, erythroblastosis, slight leukocytosis, and the presence of numerous (24%) blasts. A diagnosis of Burkitt\u27s lymphoma was established on the basis of morphologic, cytochemical, and immunologic studies performed on the blasts. When the chemotherapy protocol for the lymphoma was administered, the patient responded well initially but suffered uric acid nephropathy, which was successfully treated. However, within two weeks he had a rapid relapse of leukemia and died four months after admission

    Pericardial Tamponade in Acute Myeloid Leukemia

    We are reporting a case of acute myeloid leukemia in a child with pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade, with a review of the literature. Morphologic and cytochemical evidence was used to diagnose acute myeloid leukemia, and radiologic, electrocardiographic, echocardiographic, cytologic, and histologic evidence confirmed the diagnosis of tamponade and pericardial leukemic involvement. Pericardiotomy and pericardial window drainage successfully relieved the tamponade, and conventional chemotherapy was used to induce a remission

    The development of HCCI combustion technology has been drawing a great deal of attention from researchers. This survey explains ongoing research methodologies and results. HCCI combustion, other than conventional combustion, is purely based on chemical kinetics. At present the automobile sector faces the problem of emissions and needs to develop clean technologies. However, HCCI operation still has issues such as ignition control, combustion phasing control, operating range control, cold start, and UHC (unburned hydrocarbon) and CO (carbon monoxide) emissions. The challenge is to overcome these problems without compromising other engine parameters and performance. For HCCI, the mixture preparation is especially important, while the compression ratio, IVC (inlet valve closure) timing, inlet pressure, inlet temperature and EGR play a very prominent role in controlling it. This paper will go through a detailed discussion of all the above conditions

    HPLC Method for Determination of p-coumaric acid from the Medicinal Herb Leptadinia reticulata

    The aim of present study was to develop and validate a simple, precise and rapid HPLC method for the quantification of p-coumaric acid in Leptadinia reticulata extractst. The analysis was performed by reverse-phase chromatography on an phenomenex C18 columns with isocratic elution of Methanol and 0.8%-Formic acid in water (6:4) at a flow rate of 1.0mL/min, a column temperature of 35°C, photodiode array detector detection at 326 nm. The method validated in terms of linearity accuracy precision LOD, LOQ and stability. The herb Leptidinia reticulata contains 0.17% p-coumaric acid. The linear range of method was 0.25-50µg/ml with correlation coefficient of 0.9993, the recovery was 98-99.4% and the relative standard deviation is 0.98 % (n=6). The developed method was found to be a relatively simple, precise and reproducible for the quantification of p-coumaric acid. The method does not employ any derivatization procedure and can be used as a quality control tool for the routine analysis of    p-coumaric acid from an herb Leptadinia reticulata

    Evidence for structural and electronic instabilities at intermediate temperatures in κ\kappa-(BEDT-TTF)2_{2}X for X=Cu[N(CN)2_{2}]Cl, Cu[N(CN)2_{2}]Br and Cu(NCS)2_{2}: Implications for the phase diagram of these quasi-2D organic superconductors

    We present high-resolution measurements of the coefficient of thermal expansion α(T)=lnl(T)/T\alpha (T)=\partial \ln l(T)/\partial T of the quasi-twodimensional (quasi-2D) salts κ\kappa-(BEDT-TTF)2_2X with X = Cu(NCS)2_2, Cu[N(CN)2_2]Br and Cu[N(CN)2_2]Cl. At intermediate temperatures (B), distinct anomalies reminiscent of second-order phase transitions have been found at T=38T^\ast = 38 K and 45 K for the superconducting X = Cu(NCS)2_2 and Cu[N(CN)2_2]Br salts, respectively. Most interestingly, we find that the signs of the uniaxial pressure coefficients of TT^\ast are strictly anticorrelated with those of TcT_c. We propose that TT^\ast marks the transition to a spin-density-wave (SDW) state forming on minor, quasi-1D parts of the Fermi surface. Our results are compatible with two competing order parameters that form on disjunct portions of the Fermi surface. At elevated temperatures (C), all compounds show α(T)\alpha (T) anomalies that can be identified with a kinetic, glass-like transition where, below a characteristic temperature TgT_g, disorder in the orientational degrees of freedom of the terminal ethylene groups becomes frozen in. We argue that the degree of disorder increases on going from the X = Cu(NCS)2_2 to Cu[N(CN)2_2]Br and the Cu[N(CN)2_2]Cl salt. Our results provide a natural explanation for the unusual time- and cooling-rate dependencies of the ground-state properties in the hydrogenated and deuterated Cu[N(CN)2_2]Br salts reported in the literature.Comment: 22 pages, 7 figure

    Although lead encephalopathy is rare, lead intoxication continues to be a significant problem in Detroit. Neuropsychological effects may occur even at low levels of lead. Since treatment of lead poisoning consists of a painful series of injections, it is imperative that more attention be given to the prevention of this disease. To confirm the magnitude of the problems, our experience with lead poisoning during a three-year period at Henry Ford Hospital\u27s Pediatric Department is reviewed

    Substitution Effect by Deuterated Donors on Superconductivity in κ\kappa-(BEDT-TTF)2_2Cu[N(CN)2_2]Br

    We investigate the superconductivity in the deuterated BEDT-TTF molecular substitution system κ\kappa-[(h8-BEDT-TTF)1x_{1-x}(d8-BEDT-TTF)x_x]2_2Cu[N(CN)2_2]Br, where h8 and d8 denote fully hydrogenated and deuterated molecules, respectively. Systematic and wide range (xx = 0 -- 1) substitution can control chemical pressure finely near the Mott boundary, which results in the modification of the superconductivity. After cooling slowly, the increase of TcT_{\textrm{c}} observed up to xx \sim 0.1 is evidently caused by the chemical pressure effect. Neither reduction of TcT_{\textrm{c}} nor suppression of superconducting volume fraction is found below xx \sim 0.5. This demonstrates that the effect of disorder by substitution is negligible in the present system. With further increase of xx, both TcT_{\textrm{c}} and superconducting volume fraction start to decrease toward the values in xx = 1.Comment: J. Phys. Soc. Jp
