One pot domino synthesis of polyvicinalamine monomers

    Get PDF

Rifampicin is an antibacterial drug which is highly effective in the treatment of tuberculosis and leprosy. It has been shown to exert antioxidative as well as anti-apoptotic effects. In this study, the neuroprotective effect of rifampicin was examined after 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+)-induced dopaminergic cell death in vitro, and on the survival of retinal ganglion cells after optic nerve transection in vivo. Rifampicin administration significantly increased the number of surviving dopaminergic neurons after MPP+ intoxication as compared to control cultures. No cytotoxic effects were noted even at final rifampicin concentrations of 100ÎŒM. In the rifampicin-treated group, retinal ganglion cell survival was significantly increased after axotomy as compared with vehicle-treated and phosphate-buffered saline-treated control animals. These results suggest that rifampicin is able to prevent neuronal degeneration in cell death paradigms involving oxidative stress and activation of apoptotic pathways. It may thus play a role in the future treatments of neurodegenerative disorder

In this study, we analyze data-scarce classification scenarios, where available labeled legal data is small and imbalanced, potentially hurting the quality of the results. We focused on two finetuning objectives; SetFit (Sentence Transformer Finetuning), a contrastive learning setup, and a vanilla finetuning setup on a legal provision classification task. Additionally, we compare the features that are extracted with LIME (Local Interpretable Model-agnostic Explanations) to see which particular features contributed to the model's classification decisions. The results show that a contrastive setup with SetFit performed better than vanilla finetuning while using a fraction of the training samples. LIME results show that the contrastive learning approach helps boost both positive and negative features which are legally informative and contribute to the classification results. Thus a model finetuned with a contrastive objective seems to base its decisions more confidently on legally informative features.Comment: 10 pages + bib, 12 figures, ACAIL2023/ASAIL2023 Worksho

How the demos [Public] regulate the kratos [Administration] through repeated elections: Lessons learned from the elections in Turkiye for the government and opposition

    Get PDF
Objections to the results of conducted elections and repeated elections are a significant issue. The aim of this study is to investigate repeated elections and the reasons for canceling them through the decisions of Turkiye's Supreme Election Council (SEC) since its establishment and to examine the results of repeated elections to reveal which side benefits from this. According to the results of the content analysis, the study found within the frame of the investigated period the SEC to have annulled a total of five elections, four of which had been local and one that had been a parliamentary election, and the most frequent reason for repeating the elections to have been due to restricted or ineligible voters voting, which occurred for four separate elections. Lessons exist for the government and opposition parties to learn from these annulled and repeated elections, with repeated elections generally resulting in an unfavorable outcome for the contesting party

In the world, scientific studies increase day by day and computer programs facilitate the human’s life. Scientists examine the human’s brain’s neural structure and they try to be model in the computer and they give the name of artificial neural network. For this reason, they think to develop more complex problem’s solution. The purpose of this study is to estimate fuel economy of an automobile engine by using artificial neural network (ANN) algorithm. Engine characteristics were simulated by using “Neuro Solution” software. The same data is used in MATLAB to compare the performance of MATLAB is such a problem and show its validity. The cylinder, displacement, power, weight, acceleration and vehicle production year are used as input data and miles per gallon (MPG) are used as target data. An Artificial Neural Network model was developed and 70% of data were used as training data, 15% of data were used as testing data and 15% of data is used as validation data. In creating our model, proper neuron number is carefully selected to increase the speed of the network. Since the problem has a nonlinear structure, multi layer are used in our model

A biomechanical comparison of two cephalomedullary nails; one using a single lag screw with antirotator blade and a nail using two lag screws for unstable intertrochanteric fractures

    Get PDF
Background: Implant choice for fixation of intertrochanteric fractures remains controversial despite being one of the most commonly performed operations. Although use of sliding hip screws is still considered a gold standard in treatment of these fractures, there is a wide tendency in using cephalomedullary nails because of their biomechanical superiority over sliding hip screws. This trial was initiated in order to compare the biomechanical properties of two different cephalomedullary nails, aPFN and the PROFIN under axial loading, based on the questions that can a single lag screw with an antirotator blade render better rotational stability? Is there a difference between one lag screw or two lag screws with respect to superior migration or cut-out of the screws? And do different nail designs cause different types of failure and what are the pros and cons of classical and new designs from the view point of biomechanical aspects? Methods: Ten pairs of third generation synthetic bone models simulating unstable intertrochanteric fracture were used for biomechanical testing. Results: No posterior displacement of screws was recorded in both groups suggesting rotational unstability.  There was not a significant difference between forces values loaded at the time of failure. Conclusions: Although there was no statistically significant difference between compressive strengths at the time of failure, aPFN may provide equal rigid fixation with less possible cut-out which may have an important consequences in real clinical applications

Foliar resorption is closely associated with leaf senescence and conservation of nutrients, and protects the plant dependence on soil supply. In this study, leaf nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) dynamics, leaf resorption efficiency (RE) and resorption proficiency (RP) in some deciduous plants occurring in an undisturbed forest and a Pinus pinaster Ait. planted forest were investigated in northeastern Turkey. There were no significant differences among species with respect to foliar resorption efficiency and proficiency in undisturbed forest, whilst statistically significant differences were found among species regarding NRE, NRP and CRE in P. pinaster planted forest. CRE was found to be higher than for evergreen woody angiosperms and graminoids present in the study area. NRE was higher in undisturbed forest than in P. pinaster planted forest. In both forests foliar nitrogen and phosphorus resorption were biochemically complete. It was found that phosphorus limitation occurred in deciduous plants in both forests with respect to N/P ratios during leaf senescence. Similarly, C/N ratio was found to be high during senescence. In P. pinaster planted forest N/P ratio and NRE (both mass- and area-based) were found to be low as compared to undisturbed forestLa rĂ©sorption foliaire est Ă©troitement liĂ©e Ă  la sĂ©nescence et Ă  la conservation des nutriments et protĂšge la plante dans sa dĂ©pendance des apports du sol.

The therapeutic role of minocycline in Parkinson’s disease

    No full text
Minocycline, a semisynthetic tetracycline-derived antibiotic, has been shown to exert anti-apoptotic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects. Furthermore, there is rapidly growing evidence suggesting that minocycline may have some neuroprotective activity in various experimental models such as cerebral ischemia, traumatic brain injury, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease (PD), Huntington’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. In this perspective review, we summarize the preclinical and clinical findings suggesting the neuroprotective role of minocycline in PD
