Subwavelength sound screening by coupling space-coiled Fabry-Perot resonators
We explore broadband and omnidirectional low frequency sound screening based
on locally resonant acoustic metamaterials. We show that the coupling of
different resonant modes supported by Fabry-Perot cavities can efficiently
generate asymmetric lineshapes in the transmission spectrum, leading to a
broadband sound opacity. The Fabry-Perot cavities are space-coiled in order to
shift the resonant modes under the diffraction edge, which guaranty the opacity
band for all incident angles. Indeed, the deep subwavelength feature of the
cavities leads to avoid diffraction that have been proved to be the main
limitation of omnidirectional capabilities of locally resonant perforated
plates. We experimentally reach an attenuation of few tens of dB at low
frequency, with a metamaterial thickness fifteen times smaller than the
wavelength (lambda / 15). The proposed design can be considered as a new
building block for acoustic metasurfaces having a high level of manipulation of
acoustic waves.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figure
Equality of the energy and group velocities of bulk acoustic waves in piezoelectric media
International audienceThe equality of the energy and group velocities of bulk acoustic waves in a lossless piezoelectric medium is demonstrated, with the energy velocity defined from the generalized energy density and the generalized Poynting vector
Optimization of the box-girder of overhead crane with constrained new bat algorithm
An optimal design for minimum weight crane girder can reduce the manufacturing and operating costs. The box-girder is modeled as a simply supported beam, and the constrained optimization problem was formulated with cross-section area of the box-girder as objective function, and restrictions on plates' stress, fatigue, buckling and allowable deflection. The resulted problem is solved with constrained new bat algorithm. Four modifications have been embedded to the standard bat algorithm to increase its performances, and the level of comparison was introduced so that the new bat algorithm can handle constraints. Results show that the constrained new bat algorithm is efficient, robust and reliable and the obtained optimal crane dimensions are better than those they exist in the literature. The use of higher strength steel leads to a mass saving up to 30%.Keywords: Overhead crane - Box-girder - New bat algorithm -level of comparison - Higher strength steel.
Annular interdigital transducer focuses piezoelectric surface waves to a single point
We propose and demonstrate experimentally the concept of the annular
interdigital transducer that focuses acoustic waves on the surface of a
piezoelectric material to a single, diffraction-limited, spot. The shape of the
transducing fingers follows the wave surface. Experiments conducted on lithium
niobate substrates evidence that the generated surface waves converge to the
center of the transducer, producing a spot that shows a large concentration of
acoustic energy. This concept is of practical significance to design new
intense microacoustic sources, for instance for enhanced acouto-optical
interactions
Asymptotic ideals (ideals in the ring of Colombeau generalized constants with continuous parametrization)
We study the asymptotics at zero of continuous functions on (0, 1] by means of their asymptotic ideals, i.e., ideals in the ring of continuous functions on (0, 1] satisfying a polynomial growth condition at 0 modulo rapidly decreasing functions at 0. As our main result, we characterize maximal and prime ideals in terms of maximal and prime filters
Finite Element Analysis of The Transverse Electromagnetic Birdcage ResonatorIn this paper we have successfully realized a numerical tool to analyze an n-element unloaded microstrip line transverse electromagnetic (TEM) resonator for magnetic resonance imaging. This numerical tool allows the determination of the primary parameters: [L], [C] and [R] matrices witch permit the design and the simulation of the frequency response at the RF port of the IRM probe. As an application, we present the results obtained by Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis of a 12 elements
